PhiladelphiaThe song is about Amos Humiston, a private in the 154th New York State Volunteers from Portville, Cattaraugus County, NY. Humiston died at the Battle of Gettysburg with an ambrotype of his three children clasped in his hands. The photograph was found and used to identify the killed soldier as Amos Humiston, when his wife saw the picture in the newspaper. The proceeds from the sale of this song were donated to support Humiston's widow and children
