Construction of core@shell NiCo2S4@conductive polythiophene nanocone arrays on carbon cloth for high-performance supercapacitors
In recent years, flexible and portable supercapacitor devices have become a focus of attention in the field of energy storage. However, challenges in the selection and preparation of appropriate electrode materials remain. The hierarchical constructing of conducting polymer@transition metal sulfide composites on the flexible carbon cloth substrate is an effective strategy to achieve high-performance supercapacitors. In here, highly conductive polythiophene (Pth) nanocone arrays are hierarchically constructed on the NiCo2S4 (NCS) coated carbon fiber cloth (CC). The modification of NCS electrode surface with conductive polythiophene (Pth) layer (about 6.21 S/ cm) is based on a facile dip-coating process. This facile process allows the formation a conductive polythiophene (Pth) layer on the NCS nanoneedles by protecting porous NCS morphology. Pth shell not only increases the conductivity of NCS electrode but also alleviates agglomeration during charge-discharge process. The synergistic effect between NCS and Pth improves the capacitive characteristics of electrode. Compared to NCS@CC and Pth@CC electrodes, NCS@Pth(0.3)@CC composite electrode exhibits a superior specific capacitance (1632.8 F g-1 impressive results emphasize the potential of the newly developed hybrid structure as a high-performance electrode material for electrochemical devices. at 1 A g-1 of current density) and an outstanding retention stability (90.1 % after 5000 cycles). Management preferences of orthopedic surgeons in rickets patients in Turkey: Results of a nationwide survey
Aim Rickets remains a significant health issue, particularly in developing countries. This study evaluated the management preferences of orthopedic surgeons in Turkey regarding rickets and analyzed these approaches from a pediatric endocrinology perspective. Methods An online survey was developed based on a comprehensive literature review and previous similar studies. The survey link was distributed via email to members of the Turkish Orthopedic and Traumatology Association and the Pediatric Orthopedics Association. The questionnaire included 14 multiple-choice items addressing sociodemographic characteristics and the general approach to the diagnosis and treatment of rickets. Prior to dissemination, the survey was reviewed by 13 board-certified orthopedic surgeons from various institutions to ensure clarity and content validity. Results Of the 257 respondents, 198 met the inclusion criteria and were included in the analysis. Orthopedic surgeons with more than 10 years of experience (n = 111,56.1%) were significantly less likely to refer rickets patients to a pediatric endocrinologist (p = 0.009) and more likely to recommend oral or intramuscular 25-OH-vitamin D3 ampoule treatment rather than oral drops or capsules (p < 0.001). Surgeons who saw fewer than 25% pediatric patients in daily practice (n = 110,55.6%) were more inclined to refer patients without ordering diagnostic tests or initiating treatment (p = 0.011). The presence of a pediatric endocrinologist within the same institution (n = 96,48.5%) was also associated with increased referral rates without preliminary testing or treatment (p = 0.003/p = 0.002, respectively). Physicians who encountered at least one rickets patient per week (n = 78,39.4%) demonstrated better knowledge of normal serum 25-OH-vitamin D3 levels (p = 0.042) and were significantly less likely to refer patients to a pediatric endocrinologist (p < 0.001). Conclusion Management approaches to rickets among orthopedic and traumatology specialists in Turkey vary significantly depending on clinical experience, practice setting, and access to a pediatric endocrinologist. To prevent both undertreatment and unnecessary referrals, newly diagnosed rickets patients in orthopedic clinics should be appropriately evaluated and referred when necessary. Establishing a standardized diagnostic and referral algorithm based on international guidelines and incorporating it into orthopedic training programs is strongly recommended
Neuromuscular diseases
Neuromuscular diseases (NMD) are a heterogeneous group of disorders that affect the peripheral nervous system and muscles, with symptoms such as weakness, numbness, tingling, and muscle cramps. Weakness can affect many muscles. Some can be hereditary, while others can be acquired. In hereditary neuromuscular diseases, consanguineous marriages pose a significant risk. Acquired neuromuscular diseases can arise from various reasons. The primary goal in all these diseases is to identify and start early treatment if there is a treatable cause that has led to the disease and to improve the quality of life through stabilization of the disease with rehabilitation programs. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved

The effect of recreational games on happiness, life satisfaction, loneliness, and somatisation in elderly individuals: a non-randomized controlled trial
BackgroundParticipation in recreational activities supports continuity of activity and psychological well-being in old age. Games are one of these recreational activities. This study aims to measure the influence of recreational games on somatisation, loneliness, happiness and life satisfaction among elderly individuals. MethodsThis non-randomized quasi-experimental study involved 80 individuals from two nursing homes, allocated to intervention (n = 40) and control (n = 40) groups. Participants, aged 65 or older, met cognitive eligibility criteria based on the Standardized Mini-Mental State Examination. The intervention group selected 4 games (hot-and-cold, word challenge, bingo, matching pairs) from a set of 15 and played twice weekly for two months in smaller groups. The control group maintained their usual leisure activities. Data were collected using the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire Short Form, Satisfaction with Life Scale, De Jong Gierveld Loneliness Scale, and Symptom Checklist-90-Revised Somatization Subscale at baseline, 1 week, and 1 month post-intervention. ResultsThe intervention group (IG) showed significant improvements compared to the control group (CG). Happiness (eta(2) = 0.93) and life satisfaction (eta(2) = 0.92) increased significantly in the IG (p < 0.0001), with higher scores than the CG in both the post-test (r approximate to -0.246 to -0.212, p < 0.05) and follow-up (r approximate to -0.273 to -0.309, p < 0.01). Loneliness, including emotional and social loneliness, decreased significantly in the IG (eta(2) = 0.94, p < 0.0001), with greater reductions than the CG in the post-test and follow-up (r approximate to -0.503 to -0.593, p < 0.0001). Somatization did not change significantly within the IG but showed a reduction compared to the CG in the post-test and follow-up (r approximate to -0.226 to -0.280, p < 0.05). ConclusionsRecreational games may give psychological benefits to older adults. Yet, results of the study need to be interpreted with caution and need to be replicated. Enhancement of Passive Sliding Mode Control Model for LVRT Capability in DFIG Based Wind Turbines
Doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) is vulnerable to transient stability situations occurring on the grid side. First of all, with the models to be developed in the wind turbines, LVRT capability must be provided depending on the grid code requirement for various problems that may occur, such as overcurrent, voltage, and uncertainty in parameters. For this purpose, in this study, a passive sliding mode control (PSMC) model in the rotor side converter (RSC) was developed to control the power flow between DFIG and the grid during transient stability. In addition, the aim was to provide stator-rotor electromotive force (emf) models in DFIG to dampen the oscillations that occur as a result of faults on the grid side and to enable the simulation program to make smooth calculations. Comparisons of proposed models with traditionally used models in various faults were made, and the results were interpreted in detail. As a result of the obtained results, it was seen that the intended approaches stabilized the system in a short time, and the oscillations were quickly damped.Trkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Arascedil;timath;rma KurumuScientific and Technological Research Council of TurkeyThis research was funded by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey
Influence of oscillating fiber laser welding process parameters on the fatigue response and mechanical performance of butt-jointed TWIP980 steels
In this study, the effect of laser power, welding speed, linear heat inputs on the mechanical performance of TWIP980 steels joined by oscillating fiber laser welding in butt welding configuration was investigated. Oscillating fiber laser welding were changed: laser power from 1.2 to 1.6?kW, welding speed from 20 to 30?mm?s?1, linear heat input from 40 to 80?J?mm?1. The tensile, hardness and fatigue tests were carried out to determine mechanical performance. A significant improvement in weld penetration, fatigue performance and mechanical properties was detected at linear heat inputs above 53.33?J?mm?1. The best mechanical properties were obtained at 1.6?kW laser power and 25?mm?s?1 welding speed. The study reveals that linear heat inputs, laser power, and welding speed have significant effects on mechanical performance and weld geometry. Furthermore, the results demonstrate that oscillating fiber laser welding enables good weldability even at low laser power
Diabetes, Inflammatory Markers, and Tissue Thickness in Septic and Aseptic Hip Revision Surgeries
Background: Septic and aseptic loosening are the most common indications for revision hip arthroplasty (RHA), and infection-related revisions pose significant diagnostic and management challenges. This study compared septic and aseptic RHA cases in terms of inflammatory markers, prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM), surgical time, blood transfusion requirements, soft-tissue thickness, and mortality rates in a cohort of 49 patients. Material/Methods: This retrospective study included 49 patients who underwent RHA between 2015 and 2020. Patients were divided into aseptic (n=34) and septic (n=15) groups. Demographic characteristics, comorbidities, preoperative erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, soft-tissue thickness, and revision surgery time were compared. Results: ESR and CRP levels were significantly higher in the septic group (P=0.002, P=0.001), soft-tissue thickness was lower (p=0.003), blood transfusion requirements (P<0.001) and surgical times (P<0.00001) were higher, while no significant difference was found in mortality rates between the groups (P=0.576). Conclusions: This study examined septic and aseptic loosening in revision hip arthroplasty, finding higher inflammatory markers, increased transfusion needs, longer operative times, and greater infection risk with diabetes in septic cases. In our study, soft-tissue thickness was found to be lower in infected cases, unlike reports in the literature. While previous studies suggested that soft-tissue thickness was the cause of infection, our study indicates that the decrease in soft-tissue thickness is a consequence of infection

Anahtar Kelimeler; Gebe, Göğüs hastalıkları, KonsültasyonIntroduction: Consultation refers to obtaining the opinions and recommendations of specialist physicians regarding a patient's disease during their follow-up and treatment, thereby guiding the patient's management. The aim of this study is to evaluate the consultation processes related to respiratory diseases in pregnant women and contribute to more effective healthcare services by addressing gaps in this field. Materials and Methods: In this study, we retrospectively analyzed inpatient and outpatient consultations requested from the obstetrics and gynecology clinic to the pulmonology clinic at Düzce University Faculty of Medicine Hospital between January 1, 2015, and July 31, 2024. Pregnant patients and those in the postoperative period after childbirth were included in the study. Results: Among the 831 requested consultations, 401 (48.2%) were for pregnant women. The mean age was 30.3±6 years. The most common reason for consultation was respiratory symptoms, accounting for 73.3% (294) of cases. Of the requested consultations, 10% were preoperative, 20.2% were postoperative, and 69.8% were non-surgical. Among the cases, 384 (95.8%) had singleton pregnancies, while 17 (4.2%) had twin pregnancies. The mean gestational age was 27.4±9.3 weeks (range: 2-41), the mean number of pregnancies was 2.6±1.5 (range: 1-8), and the mean number of births was 1.2±1.2 (range: 0-6). Complications occurred in 19.7% (79) of the cases during their most recent pregnancy, with preeclampsia being the most common at 6.7%. Fourteen patients (3.5%) had a history of respiratory disease. Forty-six patients (11.5%) were smokers. The most frequently requested diagnostic test was chest X-ray (26.2%). Arterial blood gas analysis was performed in 14.2% of cases, pulmonary function tests in 5.7%, and computed tomography in 3.2%. The most common radiological abnormality observed on chest X-rays was parenchymal opacity (14.9%). The most frequently reported symptom was cough (53.4%). The most common diagnosis was upper respiratory tract infection (22.7%). Additional recommendations were provided to 79.1% of patients, with inhaler therapy being the most commonly suggested treatment (29.7%). When examining the relationship between comorbidities and complications, pregnant women diagnosed with sarcoidosis had a significantly higher rate of complications in their most recent pregnancy compared to those without sarcoidosis (p<0.05). Conclusion: When necessary, chest X-rays should not be avoided in pregnant patients, as our study has demonstrated their diagnostic value. Pregnant women with chronic diseases are at risk for pregnancy-related complications. Patients diagnosed with sarcoidosis require close monitoring for potential complications during pregnancy
