    Reveal the safety behaviors of employees in the manufacturing sector through safety climate factors

    Background One of the factors that causes industrial accidents is the unsafe behavior of people during work. When the importance of safety climate factors, which are thought to affect the safety behaviors of employees directly, is understood in terms of industrial accidents, it is obvious that the number of industrial accidents and related deaths will decrease. Understanding the factors that influence safety behavior is crucial for improving safety.Objective This study used structural equation modeling to determine the effects of safety climate factors on safety behavior factors.Methods 401 sector employees in 61 enterprises were obtained through a survey conducted in the manufacturing sectors of D & uuml;zce Province.Results The study results indicated a positive relationship between safety information, safety awareness, and safety compliance while showing negative relationships between safety attitudes and safety compliance. Additionally, positive relationships were found between safety information, safety training, and safety participation; however, no significant effect was observed between safety awareness, safety attitude, and safety participation.Conclusion The study results guide how business managers should improve employees' safety-related behaviors by focusing on safety climate factors

    Determination of Gloss in Decorative Coated Wood-based Composite Boards by Image Processing Method

    Ultraviolet (UV)-cured coating and water transfer printing (WTP) are popular organic coating techniques offering aesthetic and functional benefits for wood-based panels. This study considered the gloss change of medium density fiberboard (MDF) panels, which were coated with WTP and UV printing processes. Image processing was used before and after being exposed to some domestic cleaning agents. A carbon fiber-patterned organic finish was applied to the surfaces of the prepared sample panels followed by scrub-testing with various domestic cleaning agents in compliance with Turkish Standards (TS) EN ISO 11998. The image processing based scrubbing tester (IPBST) developed in this study was used for the scrubbing process. Digital images of the samples were captured before and after the scrubbing process, and the Red-Green-Blue (RGB) color model was converted to the Hue-Saturation-Intensity (HSI) model for analysis. The /-channel in the HSI system was used to calculate the average gloss values, which were compared to results from the BYK-Gardner Spectro-Guide 45/0 device. Pearson correlation analysis indicated a robust and statistically significant correlation of 0.71.     Assessment of Respiratory Health Among Volunteers Involved in Search and Rescue Operations During a Severe Earthquake

    Objectives To evaluate pulmonary functions in volunteers and assigned personnel involved in search and rescue or logistical activities during the early and late stages of a severe earthquake. Methods A total of 287 individuals, were administered within the first 45 days and at least after 3 months following their return. Results Among those involved in search and rescue activities, the forced expiratory volume in the first second/forced vital capacity (FEV1/FVC), absolute maximum mid flow rate (MMFR), and % predicted MMFR were significantly lower than those involved in other activities (p < 001). The absolute carbon monoxide diffusion capacity (DLCO) and % predicted DLCO values measured at least 3 months after working in the earthquake zone were significantly lower than the initial measurements. Conclusions Environmental conditions in earthquake zones may cause respiratory function impairments in search and rescue workers. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved

    Investigation of the effects of thymoquinone and cisplatin on cell migration and angiogenesis in an ovarian cancer cell line

    Over kanseri, kadınlarda sık görülen ve yüksek mortaliteye sahip jinekolojik malignitelerden biridir. Genellikle ileri evrede tanı alması ve platin temelli kemoterapilere karşı gelişen direnç, tedavi etkinliğini sınırlamaktadır. Sisplatin (Cis), over kanserinde yaygın kullanılan bir kemoterapötik ajandır; ancak toksisitesi ve sekonder direnç gelişimi, yeni stratejilere olan ihtiyacı artırmaktadır. Bu bağlamda, doğal biyoaktif bileşiklerin kemoterapi ile kombinasyonu dikkat çeken bir yaklaşımdır. Timokinon (TQ), Nigella sativa'dan elde edilen ve antineoplastik özellikleriyle öne çıkan bir fitokimyasal bileşiktir. Bu tez çalışmasında, TQ, Cis ve kombinasyonlarının SKOV-3 over kanseri hücre hattı üzerindeki etkileri in vitro olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırma, özellikle anjiyogenez ve hücre migrasyonu ile ilişkili moleküler yolları hedef almıştır. TQ (0–1000 µM) ve Cis (0–200 µM) ajanlarının farklı süre ve dozlarda sitotoksik etkileri MTT testi ile analiz edilmiş, ardından VEGF, VEGFR1, MMP-2 ve MMP-9 protein düzeyleri Western blot yöntemiyle değerlendirilmiştir. Tekil ve kombinasyon tedavilerinin hücre canlılığı, morfolojik değişiklikler ve doz-zaman yanıtları detaylı biçimde incelenmiştir. Bulgular, TQ'nun VEGFR1 düzeyini azaltırken yüksek dozlarda MMP-2 ekspresyonunu artırdığını; Cis'in ise VEGFR1 ve MMP-9 düzeylerinde azalmaya yol açtığını göstermiştir. En belirgin etki, kombinasyon uygulamalarında gözlenmiş; VEGFR1, MMP-2 ve MMP-9 düzeylerinin baskılanmasıyla hem anjiyogenez hem migrasyon anlamlı şekilde engellenmiştir. Özellikle 48 saatlik ardışık uygulamalarda TQ ön tedavisinin Cis etkinliğini artırdığı hücrte canlılığı analizleri ile saptanmıştır. Sonuç olarak, bu çalışma TQ ve Cis'in birlikte kullanımının SKOV-3 hücrelerinde sinerjistik antitümöral etkiler gösterebileceğini ve moleküler düzeyde tümör progresyonunu baskılayabileceğini ortaya koymuştur. Bulgular, doğal bileşiklerin kemoterapi ile birlikte kullanımının daha etkili ve seçici tedavi stratejileri geliştirmede önemli bir potansiyel taşıdığını desteklemektedir.Ovarian cancer is one of the most common gynecological malignancies with high mortality in women. The disease is often diagnosed at an advanced stage, and the development of resistance to platinum-based chemotherapies limits treatment efficacy. Cisplatin (Cis) is a widely used platinum-based chemotherapeutic agent in the treatment of ovarian cancer; however, its systemic toxicity and secondary resistance mechanisms highlight the need for new and more effective therapeutic strategies. In this context, the combination of natural bioactive compounds with chemotherapy has emerged as a promising approach. Thymoquinone (TQ), a major phytochemical compound derived from Nigella sativa, stands out with its anti-neoplastic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. In this thesis study, the effects of TQ, Cis, and their combinations on the SKOV-3 ovarian cancer cell line were evaluated in vitro. The research particularly focused on molecular pathways related to angiogenesis and cell migration. The cytotoxic effects of TQ (0–1000 µM) and Cis (0–200 µM) were assessed at different doses and incubation times (24, 48, and 72 hours) using the MTT assay. Subsequently, the protein levels of angiogenesis markers (VEGF and VEGFR1) and invasion/migration markers (MMP-2 and MMP-9) were analyzed via Western blotting. The effects of single and combined treatments on cell viability, morphological alterations, and dose-time responses were comprehensively examined. The findings showed that TQ reduced VEGFR1 expression while increasing MMP-2 levels at higher doses. Cis treatment led to decreased expression of VEGFR1 and MMP-9. The most notable results were obtained with the combination treatments, where VEGFR1, MMP-2, and MMP-9 levels were suppressed, leading to significant inhibition of both angiogenesis and migration. In particular, sequential application for 48 hours revealed that pretreatment with TQ enhanced the cytotoxic effect of Cis, as demonstrated by the viability analysis. In conclusion, this study revealed that the combined use of TQ and Cis may exhibit synergistic antitumor effects on SKOV-3 cells and can suppress tumor progression at the molecular level. These findings support the potential of integrating natural compounds into conventional chemotherapy regimens to develop more effective and selective treatment strategies

    Türkiye'de Evsizlere Yönelik Sosyal Politikaların İncelenmesi

    This article examines the phenomenon of homelessness and its impact on cities. It first addresses the causes of homelessness, highlighting the roles of economic, social, and structural factors. The issues faced by homeless individuals are detailed, emphasizing critical concerns such as access to healthcare, social exclusion, and psychological challenges. The article then presents examples of social policies implemented worldwide to combat homelessness, discussing their effectiveness and sustainability. Focusing on Turkey, it explores the efforts of local and central governments in addressing homelessness, with specific attention to the activities of the Ministry of Family and Social Services, the Ministry of Interior, and the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, as well as municipal initiatives. Ultimately, the article underscores the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to combating homelessness and offers suggestions for effective and innovative solutions. This study aims to contribute to the development of social policies for the homeless and provide a comprehensive perspective on tackling homelessness.Bu makale, evsizlik olgusunu ve bu sorunun kentler üzerindeki etkilerini derinlemesine incelemektedir. İlk olarak, evsizlik ve nedenleri ele alınarak, ekonomik, sosyal ve yapısal faktörlerin rolü açıklanmaktadır. Evsiz bireylerin karşılaştığı sorunlar detaylandırılarak, sağlık hizmetlerine erişim, sosyal dışlanma ve psikolojik zorluklar gibi kritik konulara vurgu yapılmaktadır. Ardından, Dünya genelinde evsizlikle mücadelede uygulanan sosyal politika örnekleri sunulmakta, bu politikaların etkinliği ve sürdürülebilirliği üzerine tartışmalar yapılmaktadır. Türkiye özelinde, yerel ve merkezi yönetimlerin evsizlikle mücadele çabaları, Aile ve Sosyal Hizmetler Bakanlığı, İçişleri Bakanlığı ve Çevre, Şehircilik ve İklim Değişikliği Bakanlığı’nın çalışmalarına odaklanılmakta; belediyelerin evsizlere yönelik hizmetleri de ele alınmaktadır. Sonuç olarak, evsizlikle mücadelede çok disiplinli bir yaklaşımın önemine vurgu yapılarak, etkili ve yenilikçi çözümler için öneriler sunulmaktadır. Bu çalışma, evsizlere yönelik sosyal politikaların geliştirilmesine katkı sağlamayı ve evsizlik sorununun çözümünde kapsamlı bir perspektif sunmayı amaçlamaktadır

    Process-based needs assessment in guidance and psychological counseling services

    Bu çalışma, okullarda rehberlik ve psikolojik danışmanlık hizmetleri ihtiyaç belirleme süreçlerinin mevcut durumunu inceleyerek, bu süreçlerin daha verimli hale gelmesi için önerilerde bulunmayı amaçlamaktadır. Nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden durum çalışması ile gerçekleştirilen bu çalışmanın çalışma grubunu Batı Karadeniz bölgesinde bulunan bir ilde görev yapan psikolojik danışman/ rehber öğretmen, öğretmenler ve bu ilde eğitim gören öğrenci ve velileri oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmanın örneklemi maksimum çeşitlilik örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilmiş sekiz psikolojik danışman, yedi öğretmen, altı veli ve dört öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmada elde edilen verilerin analizinde içerik analizi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın bulguları, mevcut okul psikolojik danışmanlık ve rehberlik hizmetlerinin ihtiyaç belirleme çalışmalarında okullar arası farklılıklar olduğunu göstermiştir. Uygulama zorunluluğu olan Rehberlik ihtiyaçları belirleme anketinin (RİBA) her okulda uygulandığı fakat zorunluluk olmayan diğer çalışmaların yapılmasında bir standart olmadığı görülmüştür. Bulgular incelendiğinde anketin ihtiyaçları belirlemede yetersiz olduğu görülmüştür. Mevcut uygulamanın yapıldığı zaman dilimi ile ilgili bulgular çalışmaların sadece sene sonunda yapılmasına ilişkin problemler olduğunu göstermektedir. Çalışmada RİBA uygulamasından sonra geçen sürede ihtiyaçların değişmesi, rehberlik ihtiyaçlarını belirleme anketine katılan katılımcıların okuldan mezun olup gitmesi ve yeni gelen öğrencilerin ihtiyaçlarının mezun olan öğrencilerin ihtiyaçlarından farklı olması gibi uygulama zamanına ilişkin problemler olduğu görülmüştür. Mevcut uygulamada süreçte görev alanlar ve görevlerine bakıldığında hazırlık, verilerin toplanması, analizi ve diğer kurumlarla işbirliği yapma süreçlerinde sorumluluğun genel olarak psikolojik danışman/ rehber öğretmende olduğu görülmektedir. İdare personeli ve sınıf rehber öğretmenleri bu süreçte destek görevi görmektedirler. Sürecin bir kişinin üzerinde olmasının iş yükünü artırdığı ve çalışmaların verimini düşürdüğü görülmüştür. Rehberlik ve psikolojik danışmanlık hizmetleri ihtiyaç belirleme çalışmalarının farklı grupların ihtiyacını ortaya çıkarma durumu ile ilgili bulgular incelendiğinde bu gruplar için özel bir uygulama olmadığı, RİBA'nın farklılıkları ortaya çıkarma konusunda eksiklikleri olduğu görülmektedir. Mevcut durumdaki eksiklikler ve sürecin nasıl yürütülmesi gerektiğine ilişkin öneriler birlikte değerlendirildiğinde okul psikolojik danışmanlık ve rehberlik hizmetleri ihtiyaç belirleme süreçlerinin planlı, sistematik ve bütünsel bir yaklaşım ile geliştirilmesi gerektiği, farklı grupların ihtiyaçlarının ortaya çıkabilmesi için özel uygulamalar yapılması gerektiği ve uygulanan veri toplama araçlarının güncellenmesi gerektiği görülmektedir.This study aims to examine the current state of guidance and psychological counseling services' needs assessment processes in schools and provide recommendations for making these processes more efficient. Conducted as a case study using a qualitative research method, the study group consists of psychological counselors/guidance teachers, teachers, students, and parents from a province in the Western Black Sea region. The sample was selected using the maximum variation sampling method, including eight psychological counselors, seven teachers, six parents, and five students. Content analysis was used to analyze the data obtained in the study. The findings reveal differences among schools in the needs assessment activities of current school psychological counseling and guidance services. While the mandatory Needs Assessment Survey for Guidance (RIBA) is implemented in all schools, there is no standard for conducting other non-mandatory activities. An analysis of the findings indicates that the survey is insufficient in identifying needs. Regarding the timing of the current implementation, the findings highlight issues related to conducting activities only at the end of the academic year. Problems related to the timing of RIBA include changes in needs during the period following the survey, the fact that participants in the needs assessment survey graduate and leave the school, and the differing needs of new students compared to those who have graduated. When examining the roles and responsibilities in the current process, it was found that the psychological counselor/guidance teacher is primarily responsible for preparation, data collection, analysis, and collaboration with other institutions. Administrative staff and homeroom teachers play a supportive role in this process. It was observed that placing the responsibility on a single individual increases the workload and reduces the efficiency of the activities. An analysis of the findings regarding the ability of guidance and psychological counseling services' needs assessment activities to address the needs of different groups shows that there are no specific applications for these groups and that RIBA is inadequate in identifying differences. When the current shortcomings and recommendations for improving the process are evaluated together, it becomes evident that the needs assessment processes of school psychological counseling and guidance services should be planned, systematic, and holistic. Specific applications should be implemented to reveal the needs of different groups, and the data collection tools used should be updated

    Tissue-specific barium accumulation in five conifer species: a 40-year dendrochemical assessment from a polluted urban environment

    Heavy metal pollution is one of the most crucial issues threatening human and environmental wellness today. Barium (Ba), a widely used heavy metal, is one of the most hazardous for the environment and human wellness as all of its compounds are toxic. Therefore, monitoring and reducing Ba pollution is one of the priority study topics. This research aims to identify the most proper plant species for monitoring and mitigating both Ba sources as pollutants and Ba pollution. We examined 40-year-old Cedrus atlantica, Pseudotsuga menziesii, Pinus pinaster, Picea orientalis, and Cupressus arizonica trees grown in D & uuml;zce, which is among the five most unclean towns in Europe. Ba concentration was determined in annual tree rings and compared based on tree species, tree tissue, direction, and tree age. The most elevated Ba concentrations were generally obtained in the outer bark and the west direction in all tree species. Results revealed that agricultural activities led to a significant rise in Ba pollution and that all species had limited Ba allocation in their wood. As a result, the change in Ba pollution could be monitored using all of these species. It is concluded that the most proper tree species for sinking Ba pollution is P. orientalis, which accumulated the most Ba in wood

    Trophic Interactions Are Key to Understanding the Effects of Global Change on the Distribution and Functional Role of the Brown Bear

    Biotic interactions are expected to influence species' responses to global changes, but they are rarely considered across broad spatial extents. Abiotic factors are thought to operate at larger spatial scales, while biotic factors, such as species interactions, are considered more important at local scales within communities, in part because of the knowledge gap on species interactions at large spatial scales (i.e., the Eltonian shortfall). We assessed, at a continental scale, (i) the importance of biotic interactions, through food webs, on species distributions, and (ii) how biotic interactions under scenarios of climate and land-use change may affect the distribution of the brown bear (Ursus arctos). We built a highly detailed, spatially dynamic, and empirically sampled food web based on the energy contribution of 276 brown bear food species from different taxa (plants, vertebrates, and invertebrates) and their ensemble habitat models at high resolution across Europe. Then, combining energy contribution and predicted habitat of food species, we modelled energy contribution across space and included these layers within Bayesian-based models of the brown bear distribution in Europe. The inclusion of biotic interactions considerably improved our understanding of brown bear distribution at large (continental) scales compared with Bayesian models including only abiotic factors (climate and land use). Predicted future range shifts, which included changes in the distribution of food species, varied greatly when considering various scenarios of change in biotic factors, providing a warning that future indirect climate and land-use change are likely to have strong but highly uncertain impacts on species biogeography.     BİR “BÜTÜNLEŞİK İNTİHAL” VAKASI: İLKER MUTLU’NUN YEŞİLÇAM DÖNEMİ TÜRK SİNEMA TARİHİ MAKALESİNİN REDDİYESİ

    Esas alanı edebiyat olmasına rağmen farklı temalarda özel sayılar yayımlayan Hece dergisi, 2024 yılında, iki ciltlik “Türk Sineması Özel Sayısı” yayımladı. Türk sinemasına dair uzman ve amatör araştırmacı görüşlerini harmanlamaya çabalayan bir çeşit eleştirel amalgam olan bu sayının ilk cildine İlker Mutlu makalesiyle (“BİR SİS PERDESİ ARDINDAN... 50’ler ve Yeşilçam’ın Oluştuğu ilk On Yıla Bir Bakış Denemesi”, Hece, cilt-1, sayı: 330/331/332, Haziran/Temmuz/Ağustos 2024, ss. 184-195) katkı sundu. Bu çalışmada ilk olarak söz konusu özel sayının genel bir eleştirel ve bilimsel değerlendirilmesi yapılacaktır. Daha sonra sözde derleme/toplama (yani kompilasyon) ama aslında “bütünleşik intihal” yapan yazısında amatör sinema tarihçisi İlker Mutlu’nun, profesyonel sinema tarihçisi Tunç Yıldırım’ın Türk Sinemasının Estetik Tarihi. Standart Türlere Giriş: 1948-1959 isimli referans kitabından yaptığı bütün intihaller ve aşırmalar karşılaştırmalı yöntem kullanılarak hem tespit edilecek hem de açıklanacaktır. Böylece dipnotlarından sorunsallarına hatta birincil kaynaklara dayanan istatistiki verilerine kadar uzun uzun kullandığı Yıldırım’ı (2016) metin içinde veyahut kaynakçada referans göstermeyen Mutlu’nun (2024) açık ve net bir intihal yaparak özgün olmayan kopya makalesini nasıl oluşturduğu kanıtlanacaktır. Bu intihal vakasının tespiti, ifşası, eleştirisi ve çözümlemesi üniversitelerde kurumsallaşmış Sinema Araştırmaları Disiplininin vazgeçilmez temel konusu olan sinema tarihi alanında “orijinal, yenilikçi ve bilimsel bir çalışma nasıl yapılmaz?” sorusuna cevap verecek niteliktedir
