Evaluation of renal elasticity by shear wave elastography in children with Familial Mediterranean Fever
Background Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) is a genetic disorder that can cause kidney damage. Shear wave elastography (SWE), a non-invasive method, was used to evaluate the decrease in renal tissue elasticity as a predictive parameter for amyloidosis. This study aimed to examine the changes in renal elasticity in patients with FMF using the renal SWE measurement method. Methods The present study included 50 pediatric patients diagnosed with FMF. The median SWE values of both kidneys were compared between the groups. Acute phase reactants were also evaluated. Results The SWE measurements (for the left kidney p = 0.007, for the right kidney p = 0.06) and proteinuria levels (p < 0.001) of the patient group were found to be higher than those of the control group. No correlation was observed between the disease activity score and the SWE measurements. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (p < 0.001), C-reactive protein (p < 0.001) and urine protein/creatinine ratio (p < 0.001) were significantly higher in the remission period compared to the control group, whereas estimated glomerular filtration rate was found to be low in the patient group (p < 0.001), which was considered as an indicator that subclinical inflammation continued in the course of the disease. Conclusions The acute phase reactants were elevated in patients with FMF even in the remission period which indicates that the disease is constantly active and have the potential to cause damage in all organs and tissues. It is thought that this subclinical inflammation may also contribute to increased tissue stiffness, which may serve as a predictor for the development of amyloidosis

Evaluating the impact of mega-projects-induced land-cover changes on habitat quality: a case study of Istanbul
The rapid urban expansion in mega-cities like Istanbul leads to increased habitat degradation, harming biodiversity. Since 2010, the central government of T & uuml;rkiye has proposed and implemented controversial mega-projects in Istanbul as part of neoliberal urbanisation. This study analyzes the impacts of these projects on habitat quality and land-cover changes, especially forest landscape. Results show increased urbanisation, especially in districts hosting projects like Istanbul Airport (IA), Northern Marmara Motorway (NMM), and Kanal Istanbul (KI), significantly reducing habitat quality. The study highlights the need for ecological evaluation in the spatial planning process to mitigate the environmental effects of these developments.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Tuerkiye (TUBITAK)Duzce University (DU) Scientific Research Projects Coordination Office [2023.02.01.1427]This study was supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Tuerkiye (TUBITAK) under the 2214-A International Research Fellowship Programme for PhD Students Programme and the Duzce University (DU) Scientific Research Projects Coordination Office (Project no: 2023.02.01.1427)

Investigation of plasma vitamin D, vitamin B12, and folate levels in newborns with pathological jaundice without risk factors
Background Physiological jaundice of the newborn is usually benign condition. Hyperbilirubinemia occurs as a result of postnatal breakdown of hemoglobin F and functional failure of the neonatal liver. Neonatal physiologic jaundice is seen in approximately two-thirds of term infants. Fifteen percent of neonatal jaundice reaches the pathological level. The etiology of nearly half of the cases is unknown. Considering the prevalence of pathological jaundice and its neurological side effects, it is very important to elucidate the etiology. This study was designed to investigate the potential role of vitamin B12, folate, and 25-OH vitamin D in the etiology of neonatal jaundice, considering their effects on erythrocyte maturation and cell lysis through various mechanisms. Methods A patient group was formed from 40 newborns and their mothers who developed pathological jaundice despite the absence of known risk factors. The control group consisted of 36 infants and their mothers who did not develop pathological jaundice. Demographic characteristics (age, gender, etc.), laboratory findings, plasma 25(OH) vitamin D, vitamin B12, and folate level results of both groups were compared. Results Newborn plasma vitamin B12 and especially plasma folate levels were significantly lower in the patient group (p 0.048, < 0.001, respectively). There was no significant difference in 25(OH) vitamin D levels in both groups. A positive correlation was found between the vitamin levels of mothers and babies. Conclusion Our study suggests that lower neonatal folate and vitamin B12 levels, along with higher maternal 25(OH) vitamin D levels, may be associated with pathological jaundice
Assessment of the influence of abrasive water jet drilling parameters on glass fiber-reinforced polymer composites
In this study, the effect of abrasive waterjet (AWJ) drilling of glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites (0 degrees/90 degrees fiber orientations) on the kerf taper (T) and roundness error (Re) of the holes was investigated. The experiments were carried out using an abrasive waterjet designed with a Taguchi L16 orthogonal array. The following waterjet processing parameters were selected: water pressure, stand-off distance, and feed rate. Statistical analyses were conducted using analysis of variance (ANOVA), signal-to-noise (S/N) ratios, and Taguchi-based gray relational analysis (GRA) to investigate the effects of processing parameters on kerf taper and roundness error. An Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model was created for the estimation of the experimental data, and the generated model was executed with minimum error and maximum accuracy. The analysis revealed that water pressure was the most influential parameter, contributing 87.75% to Re and 85.15% to T, followed by stand-off distance (11.00% for Re and 13.02% for T). Based on the parameters selected through GRA, the optimum conditions (5300 bar water pressure, 1 mm stand-off distance, 3000 mm/min traverse feed rate, 10 mm hole diameter) produced a minimum Re of 0.709 mm and a T of 0.420 degrees

The Relationship Between Emotional Availability of Parents and Difficulties in Emotion Regulation in Emerging Adults: The Mediating Role of Meta-emotion and Mood
Effectively regulating emotions is a lifelong developmental task for every individual. In the course of an individual's development, effective emotion regulation is deeply intertwined with relationships and emotions. This study aims to explore how parental emotional availability, meta-emotion, and mood influence emotion regulation difficulties among emerging adults. In addition, this study also intends to examine the mediating role of meta-emotion and mood in the relationship between the emotional availability of parents and difficulties in emotion regulation. The participants comprised 882 emerging adults (58.2% female, 41.8% male) between the ages of 18 and 25. Hierarchical regression and bootstrapping analyses were employed to validate the research hypotheses, utilizing various psychological measurement instruments. Results indicated that positive meta-emotion, pleasant mood, and parental emotional availability negatively predicted emotion regulation difficulties, whereas negative meta-emotion and unpleasant mood positively predicted them. Additionally, it was revealed that positive meta-emotion, negative meta-emotion, pleasant mood, and unpleasant mood had a mediating role in the relationship between the emotional availability of both mothers and fathers and difficulties in emotional regulation. These findings were discussed in light of relevant literature, with implications for future research and practical applications
Electric Energy Consumption Forecast And Analysis For Duzce Province
The purpose of this study is to develop estimation models for the electrical energy consumption values of Düzce Province, Turkey. It has been demonstrated that estimation models were constructed and analyzed for the electrical energy consumption of Düzce between November 2019 and October 2021. To create the dataset, data were obtained monthly from Enerji Piyasaları İşletme A.Ş. (EPİAŞ). Since the data cover two periods (12 months and 24 months) and include seasonality, the Least Squares Method, Fourier Analysis, and Winters' Method were chosen as the estimation models. The evaluation of the models using the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) method indicates that Fourier Analysis performs worse than Winters' Method. Winters' Method, which is a multiplicative model, achieved better performance in constructing the electrical energy consumption estimation model in this study. When comparing the two estimation models, no significant difference was observed; however, the analysis results reveal that Winters' Method is more favorable for forecasting electricity consumption values in Düzce for the period between November 2019 and October 2021. These findings demonstrate that Winters' Method outperforms both the Least Squares Method and Fourier Analysis, making it a more reliable option for future studies focused on constructing electricity consumption estimation models. This result emphasizes the importance of using Winters' Method as a reference for future research on electricity demand forecasting
