A Study Of Fractional Hermite-Hadamard-Mercer Inequalities For Differentiable Functions
In this work, we prove a parameterized fractional integral identity involving differentiable functions. Then, we use the newly established identity to establish some new parameterized fractional Hermite-Hadamard-Mercer-type inequalities for differentiable function. The main benefit of the newly established inequalities is that these inequalities can be converted into some new Mercer inequalities of midpoint type, trapezoidal type, and Simpson's type for differentiable functions. Finally, we show the validation of the results with the help of some mathematical examples and their graphs.NSRF [B05F640163]; Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador Project [070-UIO-2022]This research has received funding support from the NSRF via the Program Management Unit for Human Resources and Institutional Development,Research, and Innovation (Grant No. B05F640163).
Comparison of face-to-face and online flipped learning: academic achievement, epistemological and pedagogical beliefs
PurposeThe ultimate objective of this study is to compare the impact of face-to-face and online flipped learning on students' academic achievements and their perspectives on learning and teaching, offering valuable insights to the field.Design/methodology/approachThe study utilized a quasi-experimental research method that involves pre-test and post-test control groups.FindingsThe results indicated that face-to-face and online flipped learning positively impacted learning, with comparable contributions to academic achievement. However, we found that online flipped learning did not affect students' beliefs about learning and teaching, while face-to-face flipped learning positively influenced them.Originality/valueAs distance learning becomes increasingly important in our modern era, this research aims to explore the use of active learning methods, including discussion, writing, animation, drawing, association, analysis, knowledge measurement and games, in virtual learning environments, such as online flipped learning. The study seeks to enhance the existing literature on the impact of face-to-face and online flipped learning models on student success. Additionally, it aims to address a significant gap in the literature by determining the effect of these models on students' epistemological and pedagogical beliefs, which can impact their motivation, learning outcomes, academic achievements and decision-making processes
A prospective teacher's conceptions about the nature of mathematical tasks and professional knowledge within task unfolding
This qualitative study aimed to identify the changes in a prospective' conceptions about the nature of mathematical tasks and pedagogy in video cases and to investigate the characteristics of the prospective' professional knowledge and views during task design/modification. The study used the mathematical task demand engagement process, which includes task-sorting activity, selecting tasks, reflecting on illustrative cases, and teaching and reflecting on tasks as enacted. The findings regarding one prospective, Kar, were reported. Focus group interviews, individual interviews, and two recorded lessons were used as data sources. The content analysis method was employed for the in-depth analysis of the data. The findings suggested a change in Kar's ideas about the nature of mathematical tasks, particularly about what characteristics low and high-level tasks possess and the efficiency of the Task Analysis Guide. Kar also generated detailed ideas on the pedagogy of high and low tasks and realized the role of teachers as facilitators while enacting high-level tasks. Another finding is that Kar's decisions regarding task adaptation and her reasons catalyze both situated and global knowledge and views. Our findings suggest that providing an opportunity for prospective to reflect on and discuss the nature of mathematical tasks as planned, implemented, and revisited in a professional context is beneficial
Investigation of Usability of Sepiolite as a Pozzolan in Production of High Performance Cementitious Composites
The continuous growth of population and urbanization in the world significantly increases the demand for cement. In terms of sustainability, the cement industry needs to develop new and effective pozzolans with the appropriate recycling of alternative raw materials. It is also important to evaluate sepiolite, which has very limited resources in the world compared to other industrial minerals and whose economic deposits are limited to Spain and Türkiye. In this study, the usability of sepiolite as a pozzolan in cement and its effects on physical, mechanical and durability properties were investigated. First of all, the chemical and physical properties of sepiolite in Eskisehir region were investigated. Crude and ground sepiolite calcined at 500 ºC, 700 ºC and 900ºC were substituted for CEM I 42.5 R class standard Portland cement at 5-10-15% and 20% ratios. The pozzolanic activities of produced sepiolite substituted cement were determined according to ASTM C-311. As a result, crude sepiolite retains more water than calcined sepiolite, thus negatively affecting the strength properties of the concrete. Additionally, sepiolite is considered suspicious (harmful-harmless) in terms of alkali silica reactivity except 10%-15%-20% crude sepiolite substitutions. Overall, It has been observed that sepiolite does not have sufficient pozzolanic properties in cementitious composites
Efficient machine learning models for estimation of compressive strengths of zeolite and diatomite substituting concrete in sodium chloride solution
This study implements a set of machine learning algorithms to building material science, which predict the compressive strength of zeolite and diatomite substituting concrete mixes in sodium chloride solution. Particularly, Random Forest, Support Vector Machine, Extreme Gradient Boosting, Light Gradient Boosting, and Categorical Boosting algorithms are exploited and their optimal parameters are tuned. In the training and testing of these models, 28 day, 56 day, and 90 day compressive strength observations of 63 samples of 7 different concrete mixtures substituting Portland cement, zeolite, diatomite, zeolite + diatomite were used. Consequently, compressive strength experimentation results and machine learning predictions were compared through statistical methods such as RMSE, MAPE, and R 2. Results denote that the prediction performance of machine learning is improving with tuned models. Particularly, RMSE, MAPE, R 2 scores of Categorical Boosting are, respectively, 1.15, 1.45%, and 98.03% after parameter tuning design. The results denote that presented machine learning model can provide an advantage in the cost and duration of the compressive strength experiments.Duzce University Presidency of Scientific Research Projects [2011.03.HD.009]This study is financially supported by Duzce University Presidency of Scientific Research Projects with the project code number 2011.03.HD.009.
Adaptation of the Australian National University Alzheimer's Disease Risk Index-Short Form (ANU-ADRI-SF) into Turkish
BackgroundThe 'Australian National University Alzheimer's Disease Risk Index' (ANU-ADRI) assesses the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease (AD) and is a potential tool for its prevention. ObjectivesThe aim of this study is to adapt the ANU-ADRI-SF (the short version of ANU-ADRI) into the Turkish language and Turkish cultural context. MethodsThe study was methodological and involved the translation and intercultural adaptation of the ANU-ADRI-SF into the Turkish language. The study included 384 community-based participants from a province in the Western Black Sea Region of Turkiye. Data was collected via an online form prepared using Google Forms. ResultsThe index was translated from its original language, English, into Turkish and then retranslated to English by bilingual translators. It was then reviewed and evaluated for possible issues related to translation and degrees of equivalence. When TR-ANU-ADRI-SF levels were compared according to sex, the mean risk scores were found to be 11.25 +/- 7.02 for males and 11.69 +/- 7.99 for females. After cross-cultural adaptation, the TR-ANU-ADRI-SF was conceptually intelligible to Turkish adults. ConclusionsThe TR-ANU-ADRI-SF is a valid and reliable AD risk assessment tool. Implications for practiceGiven the increase in AD and its impact on people's health, there is a great need for strategies to be implemented by health professionals to improve the lifestyle of the adult population. For use in conjunction with these strategies, a localised AD risk assessment tool that can be applied by clinicians or by individual patients has been adapted and introduced to the Turkish literature
Being a child of a parent with a diagnosis of schizophrenia or bipolar disorder: A qualitative study
Children of people with a diagnosis of schizophrenia or bipolar disorder encounter great difficulties in coping with the symptoms of the disorders. The study was conducted to determine the feelings, opinions, life experiences, and needs of the children of parents with a diagnosis of schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. This is a descriptive study conducted using the in-depth interview design, a qualitative method. The sample consisted of 19 children who agreed to participate in the study with parental consent. Data were collected using a personal information form and a semi-structured qualitative interview form. The data were analyzed using the thematic analysis method. As a result of the thematic analysis, five main themes were obtained: Parents from children's eyes, living with parents, social pressure, coping strategies, this life with one word. The study concluded that children of parents followed up for schizophrenia or bipolar disorder struggle with many individual and social difficulties. These children have feelings of fear, embarrassment, or anger with this life experience; encounter social exclusion; and are overwhelmed with heavy responsibilities at an early age. Their coping strategies can be maladaptive, such as smoking or alcohol consumption, thinking of eloping, becoming introverted, and so on
Distribution of the Prevalence of Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA)-B*57:01 Positivity in HIV-1 Infected Individuals and Its Effects on Treatment: Türkiye Map-Buhasder Working Group
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immundeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a critical global public health problem that significantly affects both life expectancy and the overall quality of life of in dividuals in all age groups. The landscape of HIV infection has changed significantly in recent years due to the introduction of effective combination antiretroviral therapies (ART). A key component of first -line ART regimens for HIV treatment is abacavir, a nucleoside HIV reverse transcriptase inhibitor. Although ab acavir is effective in suppressing viral replication and managing disease, its clinical utility is overshadowed by the potential for life -threatening hypersensitivity reactions in HLA-B*57:01-positive patients. In our country, local data obtained from various centers regarding the prevalence of HLA-B*57:01 in HIV -1 -infected patients are available. In this study, it was aimed to determine the prevalence of the HLA-B*57:01 genotype in HIV -infected patients who were followed up and treated in many regions of our country. This retrospective study consists of the data of the patients aged 18 years and over diagnosed with HIV -1 infection between 01.01.2019 and 31.07.2022. Age, gender, place of birth, mode of transmission of the disease, death status, CD4+ T cell count and HIV RNA levels at the first clinical presentation, HLA-B*57:01 positivity, and the method used, clinical stage of the disease, virological response time with the treatment they received were recorded from the patient files. Data were collected from 16 centers and each center used different methods to detect HLA-B*57:01. These methods were sequence -specific oligonucleotide probe hybridization (SSOP), DNA sequence -based typing (SBT), single -specific primer-polymerase chain reaction (SSP-PCR), allele -specific PCR (AS-PCR) and quantitative PCR (Q-PCR). A total of 608 HIV -infected individuals, 523 males (86%) and 85 females (14%), were included in the study. The mean age of the patients was 36.9 +/- 11.9 (18-73) years. The prevalence of HLA-B*57:01 allele was found to be 3.6% (22 patients). The number of CD4+ T lymphocytes in HLA-B*57:01 allele -positive patients was > 500/ mm(3) in 10 patients (45.5%), while the number of CD4+ T lymphocytes in HLA-B*57:01 negative pa- tients was > 500/mm(3) in 216 patients (36.9%) (p> 0.05). Viral load at the time of diagnosis was found to be lower in patients with positive HLA-B*57:01 allele but it was not statistically significant (p> 0.05). Although different treatment algorithms were used in the centers following the patients, it was observed that the duration of virological response was shorter in HLA-B*57:01 positive patients (p= 0.006). Although the presence of the HLA-B*57:01 allele has a negative impact due to its association with hypersensitivity, it is likely to continue to attract interest due to its association with slower progression of HIV infection and reduced risk of developing AIDS. In addition, although the answer to the question of whether it is cost-effective to screen patients for HLA-B*57:01 before starting an abacavir-containing ART regimen for the treatment of HIV infection is being sought, it seems that HIV treatment guidelines will continue to recommend screening to identify patients at risk in this regard
