Trilingual-Based Instruction in English for Tourism: Empowering Students with Cultural Knowledge and Communication Competence
This study holds significant urgency in the context of language learning development and the enhancement of students’ communication skills, aiming to prepare high-quality and competitive human resources for the workforce—particularly in the tourism sector. Additionally, the study serves as a preventive effort to ensure that younger generations are still informed about, take pride in, and can preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of Toraja. In this regard, the implementation of the trilingual method in the English for Tourism course is expected to help both lecturers and students in the English Language Education Study Program at Universitas Kristen Indonesia (UKI) Toraja. The primary aim of this study is to investigate the implementation of the trilingual method in the English for Tourism course. This research employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive qualitative design. The findings show that the trilingual method is implemented through five main activities: the integration of Toraja local culture into the learning materials, simulation-based learning, fieldwork projects, translation of cultural texts, and the production of trilingual tourism promotional video
Digital Literacy in Action: An Ethnographic Study of EFL Classrooms in Indonesian Senior High School
This ethnographic study investigates the integration of digital literacy in EFL classrooms in an Indonesian senior high school. Although digital literacy is essential in contemporary Education, research in rural or under-resourced environments is scarce, especially on its cultural and pedagogical aspects. The study employed a qualitative ethnographic methodology, conducted over six months at SMA Negeri 10 Kota Ternate, which incorporated participant observation, semi-structured interviews, document analysis, and field notes. The findings indicated that Education based on digital literacy was executed in three fundamental phases: planning, implementation, and evaluation. Educators incorporated available digital resources, such as YouTube, Canva, Google Forms, and Kahoot, to create engaging and interactive learning environments. Nonetheless, infrastructure limitations and varied levels of digital proficiency posed ongoing obstacles. Three emerging cultural themes—pedagogical adaptation, negotiated involvement, and reflective assessment—highlighted how educators tailored digital practices to their sociocultural setting. The study suggests that digital literacy in EFL education is both a technical process and a contextual social practice, influenced by factors such as context, agency, and resource availability. It advocates for improved teacher professional development and infrastructure to facilitate equitable and contextually relevant digital instruction in marginalised educational environments
The Impact of Lecturer Talk on EFL Context: Student’s Attitudes in Focus
One of the most important pedagogical tools in English language training is lecture discourse, which has a significant impact on how students approach learning. Having a positive outlook is essential for improving motivation, involvement, and language skills. But nothing is known about how Lecturer Talk could encourage these kinds of views. In addition to identifying efficient communication techniques to improve motivation and engagement, this study explores the effects of Lecturer Talk on students' attitudes towards studying English. 40 students and one lecturer in the management program at STIE Yapman Majene were given questionnaires as part of a mixed-methods approach, which also included video recordings of classroom interactions. The Miles and Huberman framework was used to analyses the qualitative data, and SPSS software was used to evaluate the quantitative data. An analysis of two classroom sessions showed that lecturers' primary topics of conversation during the first session were teaching (30.64%) and giving directions (24.65%), whereas in the second session, the percentage of lecturers giving directions rose to 45.94%. An ANOVA significance value (p < 0.05) corroborated the statistical analysis's finding that lecturer talking and students' attitudes had a substantial positive connection (R = 0.317). Good lecturers encourage positive attitudes and increase students' interest in studying English, especially when they provide clear instructions and use structured teaching methods. This study supports the journal's emphasis on cutting-edge teaching methods by highlighting the crucial role that lecturer discourse plays in influencing students' attitudes and offering practical advice for teachers looking to improve communication techniques in language instruction

Critical limit of shade stress in lemongrass plant (Cymbopogon nardus L.)
Lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus L.) is well-known for its ability to thrive in sunlight. However, the capacity to tolerate shade when cultivated as an intercrop is unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the tolerance limit of shade to the growth and production of lemongrass oil. A completely randomized design was used, with the treatment design varying by level of shade: control (without shade), 25%, 50%, and 75% shade. The parameters observed were light intensity, plant height, number of tillers, fresh weight of herbs, leaf thickness, leaf chlorophyll, and essential oil content. The results showed that 75% shade reduced light intensity by 75.38%, the number of tillers by 50.86%, fresh weight by 22.39%, leaf thickness by 31.91%, leaf chlorophyll by 54.96%, and essential oil content by 48%. The relationship pattern between shade and fresh weight of herbs was Y = -0.00733X2 + 0.3633X + 340.44, with a correlation of 0.70 and a determinant of 83.70%. Meanwhile, the relationship pattern between shade and leaf chlorophyll content was Y = -0,00029X2 +0.0093 + 47.26, with a correlation of 0.9681 and a determinant of 98.3%. In conclusion, lemongrass planted as an intercrop can tolerate 25% shade, as evidenced by its growth indicators and essential oil production
Response of tomato growth and number of mycorrhizal spores applied with biochar on saline soil
High evaporation in coastal areas leads to salt accumulation in the soil, elevating soil salinity. Tomato plants (Lycopersicum esculentum L.) are one of the ideal plants for evaluating saline soil amelioration strategies. Inadequate saline soil treatment is an obstacle for farmers in developing their agricultural practices. Therefore, saline soil remediation using biochar was conducted to reduce soil salinity levels. The study was conducted using a non- factorial randomized block design (RBD) with 4 replications and 4 treatments, namely B0 (control), B1 (50 grams of biochar), B2 (100 grams of biochar), and B3 (150 grams of biochar) with observation parameters of plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, and number of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AMF) spores. The results of this study showed that biochar had no significant effect on plant growth and the number of spores in tomato roots. Therefore, based on the study's results, the use of biochar in tomato growing media did not significantly affect plant growth parameters or the number of AMF spores in the growing media. Various factors, including environmental conditions and interactions between the growing media and host plants, may influence this. Recommended that further research be conducted on the process of producing biochar using anaerobic pyrolysis or closed pyrolysis methods. This is important because anaerobic combustion can produce more stable biochar
Optimal Strategy and Cost Effectiveness Analysis for Conservation of The Endangered Maleo: A Mathematical Approach
Maleo is a large megapod found on the island of Sulawesi and surrounding islands and is an endangered species due to illegal hunting and habitat conversion. In this article, we propose a mathematical model for Maleo conservation. The model that is constructed is expressed as a system of ordinary differential equations consisting of five equations. To study the optimal strategy, we use optimal control theory. In our model there are three control parameters related to guarding Maleo nests, monitoring Maleo habitats, and transferring Maleo eggs to captivity. To measure the impact and the consequences of each intervention scheme, we determine the percentage increase in the Maleo population and the average cost-effectiveness ratio. Our results show that the most effective intervention scheme to increase Maleo populations is a combination of guarding Maleo nests, monitoring Maleo habitats, and transferring Maleo eggs to captivity. Meanwhile, the intervention scheme that has the best cost-effectiveness is the intervention scheme which is a combination of guarding Maleo nests and monitoring Maleo habitats
