Its essence is that the value concepts have а peculiar structure that could be aptly described in terms of «semantic matrix», i.e., as mental imprints of previous experiences of evaluating different phenomena in the outer world, society, mind, and speech, as well as in the process of quasi-categorization, having the character of linguistic universals. This structure is embodied in value concepts and their groupings, such as value conceptual spheres and value domains

Get PDFThe article deals with the problem of the investigation of the sound picture of a language. A sound picture of a language is understood as the sum of the frequency of phonemes in its speech sound chain. It is possible to solve some linguistic problems only using certain statistical methods. Quantitative methods can contribute much to the investigation of the distances from Russian to some other Slavonic languages on the basis of their sound pictures. A huge sample of more than 20 million sounds, computed by the author, represents the sound picture of Russian
