    12-Month Enrollment 2024-25

The 12-month Enrollment survey component collects unduplicated student enrollment counts and instructional activity data for an entire 12-month period. Using the instructional activity data reported, a full-time equivalent (FTE) student enrollment at the undergraduate and graduate level is estimated (4-year institutions only). Institutions with Doctor\u27s -professional practice students will also report the FTE enrollment of those students (4-year institutions only). NCES uses the FTE enrollment to produce indicators such as expenses by function per FTE as reported in the IPEDS Data Feedback Report

“Desirable Lady” or “She Who Desires”: Examining Aredhel’s Agency in Tolkien’s Legendarium

    No full text
As Tolkien scholarship develops through the years, studies that focus on women in the Legendarium thrive. Among the many Tolkienian female characters who have received more attention and goodwill, Aredhel, the White Lady of Gondolin, is ‘often overlooked, under-analysed, and even maligned’, as pointed out by Clare Moore. Some have read her as a ‘fridged woman’, a symbolic female disruption that is the direct cause of the Fall of Gondolin, or else as a supportive character to Maeglin, her son, who seems to be more significant in the grand scheme of the Legendarium. Many have treated her with pity, perceiving her as a victim of male violence, her story cut short by abduction and rape. However, this paper will propose an alternative reading, focusing on Aredhel’s own agency in terms of her restlessness and desire, and how that agency constructs the legend of the Fall of Gondolin as a major literary thematic motif, instead of a simple plot device

Sex, the Body, and Learning Gender: Demons in the World of the Five Gods

    No full text
“Sex, the Body, and Learning Gender” analyzes the relationship between the physical body, sexual orientation, and gender as characterized within Lois McMaster Bujold’s World of the Five Gods series, with a particular emphasis on her Penric and Desdemona novellas. Using the framework of Bussey and Bandura’s social learning theory, and a close reading of Bujold’s text, this paper explores how the demonic characters within this series are an example of gender as a learned concept rather than a biological imperative. This is further developed by examining how the demonic characters both imprint on and contrast against the more societally-bound sorcerers whom they possess. Finally, the gendered interactions between side characters, the male sorcerer Penric, and the female demon Desdemona who possesses him are examined, as well as how knowledge of that possession affects those interactions

    54. Molecular Mechanisms Involved in Survival of Pancreatic Cancer Cells under Metabolic Stress

    No full text
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is an aggressive malignancy with a median survival time of 10-12 months. Therefore, it is crucial to investigate the molecular mechanism underlying PDAC initiation and progression. Metabolic stress occurs in various cancer types, including PDAC, due to the limited availability of nutrients and high metabolic demands. The present study aims to investigate the possible survival molecular mechanisms of cancer cells under metabolic stress conditions. Using nutrient starvation models, immunoblotting, and gene expression analysis, we are investigating how cancer cells respond to glycometabolic stress. Our preliminary data indicate cancer cells compensate by going into cell cycle arrest and inducing autophagy. In addition, we are exploring the role of lactate in the epigenetic reprogramming of cancer cells. PDAC manifests a high rate of glucose metabolism and is characterized by an increase in lactate production (Warburg effect). We hypothesize that lactate can serve as a vital metabolic regulator of gene expression. Our preliminary findings indicate that cancer cells utilize lactate as a regulatory molecule, modifying histones and potentially altering transcriptional programs and protein production to enhance survival. Understanding the functional significance of lactylation in cancer cells could provide new insights into tumor adaptation mechanisms and reveal potential therapeutic targets.https://dc.swosu.edu/rf_2025/1044/thumbnail.jp
