Definitions
• Institutional Repository (IR):
o Online, open access platform where LMU can gather, preserve, and share output by its 
members. 
• Open Access (OA):
o Work is available to read online by anyone to assist in non-profit research and education.
o Work may not be used for commercial purposes without permission from copyright holder.
• Green OA
o Publication that is made available by depositing a copy into an OA repository (usually free).
o Sometimes, publishers impose restrictions on which version can be submitted (Published, 
Accepted, Submitted) and where the version can be submitted (author’s website, IR, funder 
designated location, etc.). 
• Gold OA
o Publication made OA through publisher (usually requires a fee).
o Can often be submitted to OA repositories as well.
• Sherpa Romeo may be consulted for several journal OA policies.

• Mediated Submission (Quick 
Submit):
o Go to digitalcommons.lmunet.edu;
o Click Quick Submit link under 
Author’s Corner on the left side bar.
o Provide name, date, email, 
document, and agree to terms.
• Self Submission:
o Go to digitalcommons.lmunet.edu;
o Click the link for My Account;
o Click the link for Sign Up. Fill out the 
online form and click Create 
Account;
o Click CollectionsSelect 
appropriate School, College, 
Division, or EventSelect 
appropriate collection;
o In the lower left corner, click Submit 
Research;
o Fill out submission agreement;
o Fill out the electronic form and 
upload your submission. Theses 
and dissertations should have the 
signature page on front;
