    No full text
In this work, an investigation will be carried out on the reformulation of the principle of immediacy in criminal proceedings as a result of the impact of new technologies in the judicial field. Specifically, we will focus on the regulations adopted and on the use of digital media, such as videoconferencing, to assess how this principle has had to be adapted to this new technological era. We will also focus on the procedure that must be followed to correctly carry out a telematic trial and, subsequently, we will explain the special cases regarding telematic presence and the exceptions to this intervention via telematic means. Next, we will briefly mention the advantages and disadvantages of using these digital tools in the criminal procedure and regarding the civil servants who work in the service of the Administration of Justice. Finally, in the conclusions, a brief analysis will be made regarding the issues addressed throughout the work and a response will be given to themEn el present treball es realitzarà una investigació sobre la reformulació del principi d’immediació en el procés penal a conseqüència de l’impacte de les noves tecnologies en l’àmbit judicial.

Aquest estudi contribueix a dotar professionals de l’àmbit social i en concret, de la disciplina del treball social d’un recurs útil per la detecció, la intervenció i acompanyament en casos de soledat no desitjada en jovesThis final degree project, entitled Deaf cries, invisible signals: Development of an instrument for analysis, diagnosis, and detection of young people in situations of unwanted loneliness from the perspective of social work, aims to investigate and draw attention to unwanted loneliness in the group of young adults. The research has two main purposes: one, to identify the reasons that lead young adults to suffer through situations of unwanted loneliness; the other, to develop a diagnostic instrument that allows the detection and analysis of situations of unwanted loneliness in young adults. Therefore, through a mixed methodology, it has been possible to respond to the established aims, address the research questions, and contrast the hypothesis formulated. The results obtained have allowed us to detect factors causing youth loneliness and redefine an existing diagnostic tool by adapting it to current reality. This study contributes to providing professionals in the social field, and specifically in the discipline of social work, with a useful resource for the detection, intervention, and support in cases of unwanted loneliness in young people

Three essays on the role of gender in risk perception and behaviour in tourism: compendium of publications

    No full text
ENG- This doctoral thesis explores how risk perception and gender influence the choice of tourist destinations, especially in a world increasingly marked by health, political, and environmental uncertainties. It offers an approach by examining both traditional risks (such as health and insecurity) and emerging risks like climate change. The research includes three studies: a bibliometric analysis reviewing scientific production on tourism, risk, and gender; a quantitative study of 428 young Catalans analysing how gender and travel companions affect risk perception; and an experiment with Generation Z using facial recognition technology to capture emotional responses to climate change stimuli. Findings reveal that traveling with others, especially with male companions or in groups, increases the willingness to travel, and prior travel experience plays a key role, particularly for women. The study also shows that emotions and visual language strongly influence environmental risk perception, with climate change impacting women’s travel decisions more than men’s. This thesis provides empirical evidence highlighting the importance of integrating gender perspectives and emotional factors into risk communication in tourism.

Electrochemical removal of antibiotics and multidrug-resistant bacteria using graphene- sponge electrodes

    No full text
ENG- The widespread and misuse of antibiotics for decades in both veterinary and human consumption has led to their appearance in different aquatic environments at increasingly higher concentrations. These contaminants are persistent and therefore difficult to eliminate using conventional treatment technologies. Consequently, their constant presence generates an additional challenge: the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Many bacterial strains originally targeted by these drugs have developed resistance genes, leading to infections that are difficult to treat and contributing to what is now recognized as a “silent pandemic.” Since these emerging contaminants pose a challenge for both advanced and conventional water treatment technologies, this doctoral thesis focuses on investigating the efficiency of electrooxidation processes for the removal of antibiotics and multidrug-resistant bacteria, both Gram-positive and Gram-negative, from aqueous solutions. The most widely used electrochemical oxidation treatments face notable limitations, including the high cost of electrode materials and the generation of highly toxic chlorinated by-products.

Fighting for the True Path of Revolution: The Communist Party of El Salvador (PCS) during the Sixties

    No full text
The Salvadoran Communist Party (PCS) underwent great internal tensions throughout the 1960s, which led to its fracture at the end of the decade. Conventionally, these tensions have been explained as the result of internal differences related to the party’s position on the armed struggle. In contrast, this article shows that the internal dynamics of the party in this period can be explained by a series of disputes with a strong class component, which involved the two factions competing for the leadership of the organization. On the one hand, there was a workers’ faction in favor of proletarianizing the leadership of the party and deepening the class struggle through the work of the trade unions, and on the other, a sector of intellectuals that supported the political-electoral struggle, with the prospect of gradually accumulating forces. The reversal of the liberalization process experienced under the Salvadoran authoritarian regime since the early sixties, together with the party’s position on the war against Honduras, aggravated the internal contradictions of the organization, leading to its rupture in 197

Are youth justice educational groups in Catalonia empowering? The perceptions of families of young people who have committed crimes of child-to-parent violence

    No full text
In Catalonia, child-to-parent violence is addressed through educational groups within the youth justice system. This study explores families’ perceptions of the effectiveness of these groups in supporting young people’s development and family dynamics. Five qualitative in-depth interviews were conducted with families of boys aged 17 to 19, four months after the young men had completed their stay in the judicial resource. An inductive-deductive categorical-thematic analysis was subsequently carried out, focusing on dimensions of youth empowerment (e.g., self-esteem, responsibility). Findings suggest that families perceived limited improvement in the youths’ skills, highlighting ongoing emotional instability, lack of self-criticism, weak commitment, and low community involvement. These results point to the need for an intervention model that is empowering, restorative, and inclusive in order to more effectively address child-to-parent violenc

Motiv-ARCHE: co-creation of augmented reality educational content to motivate cultural and natural heritage learning

    No full text
In the past, sites such as museums or archaeological sites focused primarily on the preservation, maintenance, and conservation of heritage elements for present and future generations. However, they now face a new challenge, the lack of motivation and public engagement in visiting and creating content about the exhibited elements. This lack of interest is, since the content presented does not address the interests or needs of the visitors, leading to cognitive overload with irrelevant information. Therefore, various applications have shown that the use of immersive technologies, such as augmented reality (AR), along with content co-creation strategies and information adaptation, can enhance users’ motivation to visit these sites. Moreover, these technologies also contribute to the preservation and conservation of heritage through the creation of virtual content. This article describes the design and implementation of a system called Motiv-ARCHE for the co-creation of educational content about cultural and natural heritage using AR. Its name combines three key elements: Motiv, referring to the motivation for learning; AR, for the use of augmented reality; and CHE, because it focuses on the education of cultural and natural heritage. Motiv-ARCHE is a system that integrates immersive technologies, co-creation, and information adaptation to enhance motivation for learning about cultural and natural heritage. Moreover, it enables both experts and users to generate content without requiring advanced technical knowledge, and this content can be displayed through AR activation by image recognition and geographic location. The system also provides access to various media formats, such as audio, video, 3D models, and AR documents. Thanks to its design, which is oriented toward delivering adaptive services, it aims to provide the user with the information they need according to their characteristics and context, which could enrich their experience at heritage sites by considering both their individual characteristics and those of their context. This increases their motivation to visit these sites and to learn about the heritage they contain. The development of Motiv-ARCHE follows the Design-Based Research (DBR) methodology, an iterative approach divided into three phases: design, implementation, and analysis. In the design phases, the characteristics of Motiv-ARCHE are identified based on the literature and user feedback. During the implementation phases, the core functionalities are developed and some experiments are conducted focusing on the co-creation of heritage elements, content, and routes, as well as on access to this content and in the analysis phases, each experiment is evaluated to improve the system. The article describes three co-creation experiments with 48, 16 and 8 participants respectively and one access experiment with 44 participants. In the three co-creation experiments, the IMMS (Instructional Materials Motivation Survey) motivation test and a demographic questionnaire were applied, while in the access experiment, the IMMS motivation test, the ARAM (Augmented Reality Acceptance Model) technology acceptance test, an augmented reality activation questionnaire, and a demographic questionnaire were used. The results showed that, thanks to the use of the methodology in the first experiment and the feedback provided by users, the application progressively improved, achieving better results in subsequent experiments. Furthermore, it was found that users feel motivated both in the co-creation of heritage elements, content, and routes, and in accessing content through AR

    No full text
This analysis focuses on the convergence of two planetary boundaries that have already been clearly exceeded: Biosphere Integrity and Novel 3. Glyphosate was selected as a paradigmatic case for this study, given its widespread global use as an herbicide. Employing the SALSA methodology, a systematic review of 191 scientific publications was conducted, revealing notable growth in publications related to this topic, especially since 2015, which coincides with the update of the planetary boundaries framework. The findings indicate a strong concentration of studies in Northern Hemisphere countries, such as Canada and the USA, while tropical ecosystems are scarcely represented. From a thematic perspective, 45% of the studies focus on biodiversity effects, yet only a small percentage (just 3.7%) directly link glyphosate with the planetary boundaries framework. Additionally, there is a methodological bias towards field studies, with a taxonomic emphasis mainly on flora and arthropods. The conceptual analysis of the study identified four main pathways of environmental impact caused by glyphosate: effects on pollinators, toxicity in aquatic environments, alteration of soil microbiota, and damage to non-target vegetation. These impacts, often potentiated by synergistic effects, generate negative feedbacks that endanger biosphere integrity, reinforcing the conclusion that glyphosate acts as a novel entity capable of severely destabilizing global ecological balance by impacting and reducing biodiversity131
