An economic analysis of the Bahamas Currency

Abstract. This paper seeks to answer whether the replacement of the Bahamas currency board by a central bank was a rational decision given the subsequent economic performance climate of the central bank and the Bahamian economy. The paper describes the currency board’s establishment; its switch from the pound sterling to the U.S. dollar as the anchor currency; and its replacement by a proto-central bank soon succeeded by the Central Bank of the Bahamas, which continues in existence today. Statements of the currency board from the Bahamas Gazette as well as other sources will help analyze the aforementioned periods and illustrate the effects each transition had on the economy. The paper will examine the later years of the currency board and test whether it behaved in an orthodox or unorthodox manner as well as exploring its relation to government finance.Keywords. Perceived self-efficacy and volition in the job search process among post-graduates: An exploration of employability intentions among young Cameroonians

Abstract. Socio-professional integration is today, better than in the past, a social issue, a thorny issue that worries and leaves no one indifferent. It is a problem as old as the world, but which is still outdated because so far, we have not yet managed to control it in order to reduce it. According to the National Institute of Statistics (INS, 2010), about 75,000 young people arrive on the job market each year and nearly 40% of unemployed young people are higher education graduates. This research makes it possible to postulate that perceived self-efficacy is a determining factor in the volition of the job seeker.Keywords. Perceived self-efficacy; effectiveness; economic volition; employment.JEL. Suggestive commitment and employability itinerary. A psychosocial study of the causes of idleness among young Cameroonians

Abstract. The complexity of the job market, which has led, among other things, to underemployment, unemployment and the tenfold increase in the informal sector, leads to the problem of the employability of young people. According to the report of the International Labor Organization (ILO, 2022), the youth unemployment rate exceeds 23% in 2021 in the Central African sub-region. To solve this problem, several strategies have been used; in particular, the creation of public and private support services for job seekers. Despite all this, the concern for the employability of young people is still acute. The objective of this research is to show that young job seekers with fatalistic beliefs who have undergone priming are psychologically more prepared than those who are not.Keywords. Full text link
Abstract. Afghanistan is an agricultural country, employing 85% of the population. Nangarhar province is the main source of food in Afghanistan. Most of the crops are grown and consumed in the different districts of the province. This study aims to examine the impact of rose crops on household income in Dari Noor district of Nangarhar province. For this study we are uded time series data from the period of 2015 to 2018. This is the first attempt to study the impact of rose crops on household income at the country level. Both quantitative and qualitative research designs were used in this study. A sample of 300 farmers was used for the study. Primary data were collected using well-structured and planned questionnaires. Secondary data were obtained from various official sources, including Afghanistan's Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, the World Bank, German Agro Action (GAA), and the International Center for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA). The data was analyzed using inferential statistics such as the Heteroskedasticity test, Granger causality test, Multicollinearity test, multiple regressions, and descriptive statistics. The findings of the study revealed that rose cultivation starting time, the farmer's age, the farmer's education, the farmer's training, work experience, the number of employed males, rose yields, agricultural yields, and the government policies all had a significant effect on households income. Furthermore, the number of employed females has a positive but insignificant impact on household income. These findings suggest that the Afghan government should consider using the farmer's education, working age, farmer's training, and work experience as policy tools to increase household income from rose cultivation. By using the OLS estimation method, this study contributes to the literature in Afghanistan.Keywords. Household income; Rose crops; Time series data; OLS; Afghanistan.JEL. Q11; Q47

Comparative analysis of the effects of COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021: Case study of Italy

Abstract. This study develops a comparative analysis of the effects of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) between April-June 2020 (without vaccinations) and April-June 2021 (with vaccinations) in Italy. The findings reveal that the dynamics of COVID-19 is declining because of its seasonality that reduce the effects in summer season. Hence, this study provides critical lessons that could be of benefit to countries for crisis management of pandemic diseases, showing how seasonality can reduce the diffusion of airborne disease of novel viral agents in summer.Keywords. Female single parenthood, poverty and livelihoods strategies in rural area: Evidence from Cameroon

Abstract. In Sub-Saharan Africa, female single-parent families of rural areas face many difficulties in their daily lives. This article analyses the determinants of single parenthood and the livelihoods strategies of single parents facing poverty in the Abang and Longo localities, located in the Nanga-Eboko Sub-division, in Cameroon. The observation of these populations and the analysis carried with the semi-structured interview method in 2021 reveal that these single-parent families suffer from poverty, due to their vulnerable situation. In response to this, in order to meet their basic needs, they develop livelihoods strategies based on family solidarity, social support and small income-generating activities, mainly in the informal sector of the local economy.Keywords. Single parenthood; Poverty; Livelihoods strategies; Cameroon, Daily life.JEL. A13; D10; Z10

Engaging communication and adherence to blood donation. An experiment on the impact of the preparatory act on the manifestation of retroactive behavioral intention in Cameroonian context

Abstract. The derailment of the train linking Yaoundé to Douala on October 21, 2016 gave special emotional resonance to the need for blood donation. The high number of victims and the horror of experiencing the loss of a life due to lack of blood has accentuated this issue. The daily calls for blood donations in hospitals, however, do not enjoy the same empathy. As a result, equally moving tragedies unfortunately occur in complete anonymity. The aim of this project is to set up a communication protocol to encourage young adults in our high schools, colleges and universities to give blood. Engaging communication, combined with two types of preparatory acts, is our conceptual basis for addressing this problem. As a result, behavioral induction, employing both narrative and argumentative preparatory acts, leads to the manifestation of the intention to adhere to blood donation in the participants of this study.Keywords.
