    Get PDF
The present research studies the composite technology in construction industry as a platform for en-trepreneurial activity. Due to the importance of using composite technology and its important role in job creation, economic growth in construction industry and simultaneously its potential profitability, it shows an untapped market for Iranian entrepreneurs that tend to create added value and active par-ticipation of SMEs. Due to the lack of entrepreneurial researches in this context, conducting a re-search to form a scientific approach in this industry is essential. The research method was a combina-tion of structured and semi-structured interviews and analysis and investigation of environments, needs, obstacles and results of the interviews, a questionnaire was prepared by certified teachers and was answered by a population by 70 experts and engineers. And it became the basis for identifying opportunities in this industry. According to the conducted analyses and investigations and with execu-tions and performance of programs such as "Laws and Regulations", "Standards", "Culturalization", "Notification", "Quality Raise", "Costs Reduction", "Books Publication", "Advertising", demands for start-up businesses in this regard can be facilitated and identified opportunities cab be analyzed and evaluated. Purpose- In this paper we discuss an exploratory study that involved face to face, qualitative inter-views with 20 technology-based small firms (TBSFs) and seven qualitative interviews with key informants and funders. The TBSFs were all located in New Zealand (NZ), a small open economy with a limited domestic market, a population of 4.3 million, current GDP per capita of US32,260(2010)andarguablyanimmatureandlimitedfinancialinfrastructure.ThecentralresearchquestionforthisstudywaswhetherTBSFscanraiseappropriatefinancethatallowsthemtostart,developandremaininNZ?Design/methodology/approachAnexploratorystudyhasinvolvedaprogrammeof20indepth,facetofacequalitativeinterviewswiththefoundersandchiefexecutivesofTBSFsdrawnfromthreecontrastinglocationsinNewZealandandfromacrossdifferenttechnologybasedsectors.Afurtherseveninterviewshavebeenconductedwithkeyinformantsdrawnfromthethreelocations.FindingsAsmightbeexpectedfromtheory,therewasaheavyrelianceoninternalfundingandbootstrappingmethods,althoughanumberofTBSFshadinadditionmanagedtoraiseadditionalprivatecapitalthroughtheirowncontactsandnetworks.Allthesamplehadrelieduponinternalfundingtosomeextent.However,atotalof13(65percent)eitherreliedtotallyoninternalfunding(fromtheinitialstartup)orrelieduponacombinationofinternalfunding,bootstrappingandprivateinvestors.ContextwasimportantwithNewZealandbeingasmallopenandrelativelyremoteeconomywhencomparedtotheUK;wheretheEUprovidesasignificantmarketforTBSFdevelopment.Incontrast,NZTBSFs,ofnecessitywereheavilyinvolvedindistantoverseasmarkets.ResearchImplicationsTherewasevidenceofadistinctfinancegapintheexternalequitymarketinNewZealand.ForamountsbelowNZ32,260 (2010) and arguably an immature and limited financial infrastructure. The central research question for this study was whether TBSFs can raise appropriate finance that allows them to start, develop and remain in NZ?Design/methodology/approach- An exploratory study has involved a programme of 20 in-depth, face to face qualitative interviews with the founders and chief executives of TBSFs drawn from three contrasting locations in New Zealand and from across different technology-based sectors. A further seven interviews have been conducted with key informants drawn from the three locations. Findings- As might be expected from theory, there was a heavy reliance on internal funding and bootstrapping methods, although a number of TBSFs had in addition managed to raise additional private capital through their own contacts and networks. All the sample had relied upon internal fund-ing to some extent. However, a total of 13 (65 per cent) either relied totally on internal funding (from the initial start-up) or relied upon a combination of internal funding, bootstrapping and private inves-tors. Context was important with New Zealand being a small open and relatively remote economy when compared to the UK; where the EU provides a significant market for TBSF development. In contrast, NZ TBSFs, of necessity were heavily involved in distant overseas markets. Research Implications- There was evidence of a distinct finance gap in the external equity market in New Zealand. For amounts below NZ1m, these could be sought from networks of business angels, even though such sources were limited and restricted. If the funding sought was in the range NZ1m1m -5m; this was likely to fall between the informal and formal venture markets. Associated with this was a distinct preference for relying on internal funding by NZ TBSFs. Originality/value- This paper provides a contribution by being the first serious study of TBSF devel-opment in New Zealand, specifically focusing on the role of finance. The example of TBSF develop ment in New Zealand’s small, open economy is significant and comparisons are drawn with the extent of funding gaps and similar issues in TBSF development from a UK based study. These comparisons enable the findings to be set in context and implications developed. Research paper Reference to this paper should be made as follows: Deakins, D., and North, D. The role of human capital development on economic growth cannot be over – emphasized in Nigeria. This is because in the past three decades there had been conflicting opinion of researchers, policy makers and academics concerning the role investment in human capital development play on economic growth of a country. Hence, the reason why this paper is conducted to reappraise the nexus between investment in Human capital development and economic growth in order to ascertain if truly investment in human capital can induce economic growth of Nigeria or not with data spanning between 1970 – 2012 using a Two Stage Least Square and Pairwise Granger Causality methodologies. The variables used in the study were tested for stationarity using the Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF) and Philip Perron (PP) test. The result of the test showed that the variables were stationary at first differencing. The co-integration test was also performed and the result revealed the absence of co-integration between Investment in human capital and economic growth. Furthermore, it was discovered from the results of the TSLS that there exist a positive and statistical significant relationship between PERCAPITA and some explanatory variables (like; HUMANCAP, PUBLIC, and EXCHR) in the first estimated equation. The result also shows that LABFORCE exhibited a negative but significant effect on the level of PERCAPITA income in Nigeria. Similarly, it was equally discovered from the second estimated equation that public expenditure has a positive and significant relationship with investment in human capital. This means that the amount the government spends on human capital development in form enrollment and making schools to be easily accessible to pupils and students has the tendency to foster economic growth in Nigeria. Therefore, the study recommends the need to increase budgetary allocation to the education and health sector and the establishment of sound and well-functioning vocational institute needed to bring about the needed growth in human capital that can stimulate economic growth. In this regard, policy-makers in conjunction with employers and individuals needs up to date information on the real labour market value of different qualifications, in order to help them navigate through the increasingly complex education system and make the strate-gic kinds of educational investment decisions needed to propel economic growth due to issues associ-ated to labour mismatch. This study indicates the theoretical perspective and examines the relevant literature that supports the significance of leadership style and professional ethics among employees. The methodology for con-ducting the study was the use of two quantitative questionnaires aimed at determining the relative contribution that task-oriented and relations-oriented styles of leadership have on different dimen-sions of professional ethical behavior. This study is conducted in a manufacturing company and data were collected from 200 employees working in the cement factory. Firstly, the study revealed the type of leadership in this factory and then examined the relation between the leadership style and ethical behavior. To test the hypothesis structural equations modeling was used. The results showed that simultaneous high relations-oriented and high task-oriented leadership styles (i.e. supportive behav-ior) have significant effect positively on professional ethics among employees. Challenges facing the customs organization continuously change its management system in different countries and customs managers face a large number of challenges. Globalization tendencies, in-creased technological developments, customer-orientation, decreased product life cycle, change in product nature, regionalism and competition diversity demand a new form of leadership. The manag-ers, therefore, need to be prepared for administrating changes in dynamic environments. On the other hand, the organizations should also take the necessary actions in order to change and improve the current procedures; otherwise, they will jeopardize their existence and perpetuity because today the existence of organizations is threatened more than ever before. Considering the difficulties and bot-tlenecks of strategic planning, strategic thinking is used today as an important instrument assisting managers to solve problems and promote competitiveness and dynamics. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of establishing e-customs on stretching strategic thinking. It is a survey study in terms of method where the statistical population is composed of all technical experts of IRICA in 2015, i.e. a total number of 650 cases 234 of which were selected through simple-random sampling using Krejcie and Morgan method. Data was collected using a researcher-made questionnaire. Its validity was confirmed through formal validation and its reliability was calculated using Cronbach’s alpha (0.726). All data was analyzed in SPSS 19. According to data analysis results, e-customs affects strategic thinking dimensions with a different influence on every dimension. The results showed that the impact of establishing e-customs on systems thinking, creativity, conceptual thinking, intelligent opportunism, and foresight was 15%, 17%, 17%, 13%, and 22%, respectively. Hence, it is proposed that managers pay special attention to foresight and then to creativity and conceptual thinking in or-ganizations. This research aims to examine the patient's satisfaction from service quality in Bahrami Hospital considering the CRM model. Generally, six variables of "Physician-Patient Relation", "Nurse-Patient Relation", "Staff-Patient Relation", "Hospital Accountability", "Meeting Patient's Requirements", and "Specialized Performance of the Physicians" have been analyzed in order to measure the impacts of the variables on patient's satisfaction in Bahrami Hospital of Tehran. The statistical population of the research contained the patients (children) who were hospitalized in the Bahrami Children Hospital and/or the parents who were the children's companies. Also, sample size was calculated 196 people based on the Cochran's Formula. This study is an applicable research with a descriptive survey methodology so that the main tool for data gathering is questionnaire. In addition, the Cronbach's Alpha Coefficient for the questionnaire was calculated 0.812 based upon SPSS software. Analyzing the data by SPSS software revealed that all variables except "specialized performance of the physi-cians" had a significant relation with patient's satisfaction. Since the hospital was a training-based medical center, the Pearson correlation coefficient for the variable "specialized performance of the physicians" was calculated 0.137; meanwhile, the meaningfulness amount was obtained 0.056 which is more than the standard limit. Therefore, the aforesaid variable does not have a significant relation with patient's satisfaction. Research paper Reference to this paper should be made as follows: Hossieni, M. H., Meymand, M. Substantial takeover of shares and post-aqcuisition performance

The corporate restructuring is used as mechanism to create value of the shareholders. It gives oppor-tunity to make investment in other company with high potential but lower rate of return. By taking over such companies, the acquiring company redeems profit and creates value for their shareholders without diluting their right and altering main business operations. However, the value of acquired company shareholders is equally imperative as of acquiring company (Teece and Shuen, 1997), and (Coase, 1937). In present paper the performance of acquired company has been measured by taking three dimensions into account viz., actual return, estimated return and abnormal return. The beta coefficients of BSE-S&P 500 have been taken as proxy for return on estimation basis. To execute the hypotheses paired sample t-test, regression for estimation and cumulative abnormal return methods are applied. The study finds that the share price of acquired company remained low in pre-acquisition period and became a cause of acquisition, similar to Porter (1985), Thomas (1996), and Dewey (1961). Post-acquisition performance could not meet the standard of expected returns and stays lower in majority cases akin to Hogarty (1970), and Franks, Harris, and Titman, (1991). How-ever, only in some instances abnormal return has been found positive after acquisition especially in long-run period.  Research paper Reference to this paper should be made as follows: Kumar, S.
