Flora und Vegetation an Straßenrändern und Bahndämmen im Kreis Köthen (Sachsen-Anhalt)
.The flora associated with the main and side lanes of roadside and railway ecotones was investigated from 1985 to 1988. In total 354 vascular plant species were recorded and classified according to their ecological value.
The ecotones were compared with reference to the total number of species, the number and type of indicator organisms, the types of life forms, the preseverance of leaves, the anatomical structured and the resistance to salt and heavy metals.
The flora and both ecotones were described using the calculation of the coefficient for community, the designation of hemerobic degree and the proportion of apophytes to anthropophytes.
For the descussion of the necessity of protection the number of official poisonous herbs were determined as were the number of species in the "red list" of endangered species.
In general the vegetation of the research area was characterized by that associated with "ruderal meadows" i. e., the Tanaceto Arrhenatheretum. Moreover the Convolvulo-Agropyretum and the Atriplicetum netentis were found as weil as the Alliario-Chaerophyllum temuli in the vicinity of woods. The Lolio-Plantaginetum were only common immediately next to roadways.
Detailed analyses indicated similar plant species and phytocoenological structures in both roadside and railway ecotones. Essentially the species with a wide ecological and phytosociological amplitude dominate. The increasing effect of ruderalisation is the consequence of the strong anthropogenic influence

Die Trinkwasserversorgung der Stadt Halle von ihren Anfängen bis zur Gegenwart
.This contribution describes the central water supply of the town Halle, situated in the Leipzig-Merseburg-Halle industrial region, and the difficulties of providing the town's inhabitants with sufficient drinking water of a good quality. Quantitative and qualitative difficulties have resultes from the natural unavailability of suitable water, the growth in population and the development of trade and industry in the town and its surroundings. These developments had an additional negative influence on the already poor natural conditions and finally necessitated the provision of water from distant sources as well as the construction of new waterworks.Because the public water supply in the former GDR was predominately in the hands of the state and the town of Halle lacked the necessary resources to build new waterworks, the former GDR government took the decision in 1988 to build waterworks in the immediate vicinity of the old Halle-Beesen waterworks. The decision was based on the very high consumption of water, especially by industry, and the consequent shortage of water for the general population
Zur hydrologischen Situation westerzgebirgischer Hochmoore
.In contrast of the bog vegetation in the Western Ore Mountains our Knowledge of the hydrological situation is very poor. However, this information is needed urgently for nature conservation management. The hydrological situation of five bogs is quantified using the equation of water balance and makes it evedent with the help of the ecological tolerable total runoff. Possible changes of water balance ore discussed in relation to variable landscape feature such as climate, vegetation and drainage
