Designing Assignments That AI Can\u27 t Solve: Strategies for Educators
In this session, participants will explore strategies for designing AI-resilient assignments. These assignments are carefully crafted to significantly reduce, and in some cases entirely prevent, students from using AI tools to earn high grades without genuine effort. By minimizing the potential for AI to complete tasks on behalf of students, these approaches ensure that academic integrity is upheld. Furthermore, they alleviate the need for instructors to act as AI investigators, removing the burden of determining whether AI was involved in the completion of student work
Create an AI Book (From Developing an Idea, Outline, Title and more)
This is an interactive session where we will work together to design an book using AI tools and technologies. As a way to show our students on how to have their inner creativity develop and blossom. By designing book materials that include images, art work, exercises and story we will show how this can be used to teach ideas in a practical approach. We want our students to learn and take away the specific information. By using this method we can demonstrate how each student has a personalized learning on the topic that is being covere
Assessing Authorship: Writing Assignments in an AI LLM Age
Dr. Kellen and Dr. Larson will share strategies for writing feedback and assessment when students create that writing in collaboration with AI LLM tools, either with or without instructor authorization. They will discuss redesigning writing assignments across disciplines and share what worked and what didn\u27 t when discussing unauthorized AI LLM usage in undergraduate writing. Additionally, they will tackle writing assessment when AI LLM usage is authorized; how do instructors assess course objectives through writing outcomes when some of the labor has been done by a machine and not the learner
Learn how QuadC\u27s AI Solution helped to improve pass rates by 6% and more
This session will detail the experience and outcomes at the Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) in deploying and using QuadC\u27s AI solution to augment Tutoring and enhance Teaching and Learning. Participants will be given an overview of the system used and the outcomes and feedback of the deployment. Then we will discuss findings we had at CGTC. The session will end with an audience Q&A session for the remaining time. Participants will learn what an AI system could look like (and the deployment process) to augment tutoring capacity and availability for students, save time for instructors, and help students learn faster and better and teachers teach faster and better
Instructor Perceptions of Generative Text AI
The meteoric rise of generative text artificial intelligence has generated a number of reactions among faculty and staff in higher education ranging from tempered joy to something verging on despair. In an attempt to better understand the thoughts and feelings of the teaching body some members of the Markwood Center for Learning, Innovation, and Collaboration at the Jim Dan Hill Library administered a survey in Fall, 2023 as a SOTL project to gather data from teaching faculty and staff for use in our mission of faculty development. The results were interesting and yielded some actionable feedback for the unit
Authenticity in the Age of AI
Can students use AI to enhance their writing without losing their authentic voice? Come explore an innovative Honors course in which students navigate developing technological literacy, raising their ethical awareness, and maintaining authentic self-expression in crafting personal statements. Discover innovative strategies for using collaborative AI tools, creative assignments, and frameworks for teaching AI use as a co-intelligence. Join our conversation to share ideas, reflect on AIs role in education, and uncover practical approaches to inspire students critical and creative thinking in the age of AI
Empowering Students with AI: UDL Strategies for Creativity and Critical Thinking
Join this session to discuss integrating AI into learning by offering choices that foster curiosity, presenting content flexibly, and providing diverse options for demonstrating learning and creativity. I will show how Universal Design for Learning-based strategies were implemented in a digital media production class to empower students to explore AI tools for learning, creativity, and critical thinking. Encouraged to learn with AI, create with AI, and understand AI, students showcased their creativity and technical proficiency. They also reflected on the challenges and limitations of AI, considering how ethical issues influenced their approach to media production and educational practices
Beyond the Buzzwords: Integrating an AI Literacy Module Across the Curriculum
As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly prevalent, institutions must equip students with AI literacy in ways that are both comprehensive and adaptable. This poster showcases a module developed at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) as a practical example. It offers tips and considerations for building an AI literacy module for your learning management system that can be widely integrated across the curriculum without overburdening educators or learners. A QR code will be available for attendees to access the full module, which can serve as a framework for developing similar resources at their own institutions
A Dash of Innovation: Stirring Up AI Conversations in the Instructional Design Kitchen
Discover a fresh, culinary-inspired approach to guiding faculty through AI adoption in higher education. In this interactive presentation, we\u27ll explore how instructional designers act as master chefs, curating meaningful experiences that blend creativity, empathy, and the right mix of technology. Using hands-on examples and playful metaphors, participants will uncover practical strategies for collaborating with faculty chefs, whether they\u27re brimming with excitement or cautiously tasting AI\u27s potential. Come savor innovative recipes for AI consultation, leaving you equipped to confidently integrate AI into classrooms and catalyze transformative learning
