RESEARCH ON THE FORCED MIGRATION FROM THE CROSS-BORDER COOPERATION PERSPECTIVE

    No full text
The war on the borders of Romania and the European Union has not only caused forced population movements but also economic imbalances at the European and global levels, as well as significant societal changes. Last but not least, at the level of European institutions, the direction of funding has been altered to assist the Ukrainian people, the success of military defence operations and the reconstruction of affected areas. Also, the financing programs aimed to foster economic, social and cultural ties between the cross-border regions on both sides of the border were affected. This is particularly concerning since most of these projects included activities aimed at target groups and the population in cross-border regions, including Ukrainians. The purpose of this paper is to analyse, based on a survey addressed to the project teams involved in the Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020 program, how the refugee crisis from Ukraine has impacted the implementation of cross-border projects, especially the activities involving target groups and also the solutions that have been found to achieve the proposed project indicators. The research results have shown that many of the projects encountered difficulties in organizing activities for the target groups due to the refugee crisis, and some were suspended or irrevocably delayed. Moreover, entire project teams found themselves as refugees, receiving support from their colleagues in Romani

Modeling the relationship between excise tax levels and products harmful to health. Case study of European Union countries

    No full text
The substantial increase in the consumption of certain products known to have repercussions on the health of consumers has led to the establishment of measures to help discourage consumption, but also to increase health awareness. The aim of our work is to highlight the correlation between excise duties and consumption at EU level, with the application of excise duties having the expected effects in relation to the worrying consumption of alcohol and tobacco products. For this research we have used SPSS statistical software, the correlation being determined on the basis of an econometric model with the level of excise duty as the dependent variable and alcohol and cigarette consumption as the independent variables The research results reveal that if the per capita recorded alcohol consumption decreases by one unit and the per capita recorded cigarette consumption remains constant, then the excise tax level increases on average by 0.782 units, and if the per capita recorded cigarette consumption decreases by one unit and the per capita recorded alcohol consumption remains constant, then the excise tax level increases on average by 1.638 units. Therefore, this correlation highlights consumption as a factor generating health problems at national and international level

    No full text
This research examines the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications, specifically those using Large Language Models (LLMs) with real-time feedback, decision support system and data analysis and predictive forecasting, across two different key sectors in Romania. Through interviews with a mayor and a company manager, the study investigates how AI can enhance decision-making, improve operational efficiency, and foster innovation in both sectors. The results reveal that AI has the potential to streamline public services, reduce administrative delays, and increase citizen engagement. In the business environment, AI facilitates cost reduction, operational optimization, and improved competitiveness. However, the study identifies several challenges to AI adoption, including infrastructure, a lack of digital skills, financial constraints, and resistance to change. These barriers hinder both public administration’s and private companies\u27 ability to fully leverage AI technologies. The findings underscore the importance of fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors to overcome these obstacles. In addition, the research raises some concerns about employee skills which underlines the need to invest in digital education and training to address the skills gap. The study concludes that the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies offers significant benefits while presenting notable challenges and both the public and private sectors acknowledge the importance of collaboration in developing applications that facilitate information exchange and support strategic decision-making

WHAT IS THE PROGRESS OF EU CIRCULAR ECONOMIES?

    No full text
Circular economy is becoming an increasing concern for specialists due to the benefits it can have upon the environment and people. Although there are no well-defined indicators according to which the progress of a circular economy can be quantified, there is more and more concern in the specialised literature. This paper attempts to measure such progress within the EU member states via an aggregate indicator based on the indicators ones issued by the Eurostat in the EC monitoring framework. The indicator has been determined in two variants: one where the states missing some statistical data have been removed and another where the zero value has been attributed to all circumstances of unavailable data. The different determination methods have revealed different values of the circular economy aggregate indicator as well as different approaches of the states

Exploring Deterministic Chaos in Economic Systems

    No full text
The term “chaotic” is used to describe the aperiodic behavior of an apparently random system. Behind the apparent random dynamics lies in fact the deterministic character of the system whose behavior is completely determined by the equations describing the deterministic chaotic dynamics. Chaos in proven to occur generally in complex nonlinear systems. Nonlinearity introduces in fact a better understanding of the complex natural phenomena. Nonlinear dynamics consists of a set of tools and concepts (period doubling, bifurcations, initial conditions sensitivity, attractors, phase space, phase portrait) allowing to analyze the dynamics generated by nonlinear processes. The paper presents the main ideas of the chaos theory and identifies the main papers that identified (or not) the presence of chaotic dynamics in different areas

RESIDENTS’ PERCEPTION OF TOURISM DEVELOPMENT IN THE HUNEDOARA AREA

    No full text
It has long been proven that tourism is a dynamizer of the economic and social life of an area. However, the development of tourism has brought with it major benefits as well as disadvantages for residents. The objective of this study is to analyze residents’ perceptions regarding changes in their quality of life and the impact of tourism on the community. By examining local attitudes and responses, the study aims to provide a deeper understanding of how tourism development influences everyday life in the Hunedoara area and to identify both the perceived benefits and challenges associated with it

The study provides an overview of Moldova’s main tourism promotion strategies, emphasizing its competitive advantages and attractions from a global perspective. It also highlights the integration of emerging trends, such as evolving tourist preferences, the digitalization of travel planning, and the role of sustainability in tourism products

HOW DO EXCHANGE RATE DYNAMICS SHAPE INTERNATIONAL TOURISM DEMAND?

    No full text
This study examines the impact of exchange rate dynamics, trade performance, and inflation on international tourism demand in Nigeria from 1990 to 2023. Using annual time-series data sourced from the Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical Bulletin, the study employs the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach to capture both short-run and long-run relationships among the variables. The results reveal that exchange rate depreciation positively influences tourism demand, particularly with a lag, indicating that foreign tourists respond to improved affordability over time. Total exports consistently enhance tourism inflows, reflecting the complementary relationship between trade performance and tourism, while persistent trade deficits exert a negative effect, signaling that macroeconomic imbalances can reduce international tourist arrivals. Inflation shows limited short-run effects but contributes positively in the long run, suggesting that moderate economic growth and price stability support tourism development. The study concludes that macroeconomic stability, export promotion, effective exchange rate management, and integrated tourism policies are critical for sustaining and increasing international tourism demand in Nigeria. Policy recommendations focus on maintaining competitive exchange rates, promoting exports, stabilizing trade balances, controlling inflation, and coordinating tourism development with broader economic strategies to enhance foreign exchange earnings and economic growth

    No full text
This study uses a wide range of qualitative data to detect some deeper attitudes in the relationship between sustainability, corporate governance and stakeholders. As a result of the analysis, we found that, although a number of changes have been made to the internal audit function in recent times, the role and importance of this function within entities will change as a result of digitalization and new challenges of the profession. The research approach was mainly based on a qualitative analysis of the relationship between sustainability and reporting information on specific standards. The research combines theoretical and empirical research. In order to benefit from punctual results and conclusions in the specific economic research activity, we aimed to analyze facts, economic events, figures and statistical data reported by a sample of companies listed on the BVB

Participation of the population in education. Romania where?

    No full text
The degree of participation of the population in education is an indicator that provides an image of the chance of sustainable development, both at the level of local communities and at the regional and national level. In Romania, over time, the education system has undergone numerous transformations that tried to harmonize this sector with the characteristics of technological, economic and social developments, as a member state of the European Union. The analysis carried out and presented in this paper highlights the fact that, unfortunately, between Romania and the other EU member states there are significant differences regarding the participation of the population in education, as well as its level of education, discrepancies that are accentuated at the level of the development regions. Moreover, in many cases the developments are divergent, compared to the developments at the EU level
