    Different Representations of a Mediating Artifact in Exhibitions: Woman Figurine of Çatalhoyuk

    Tarihsel olarak, müzeler çoğunlukla objeleri anlatılara kategorize sergileme teknikleri kullanmışlardır. On beşinci yüzyıldan kalma merak kabinelerinden modern kurumlara evrilen müzeler, ulusal kimliği şekillendirmeyi amaçlamışlardır. Ancak bu tez, kültürel eserlerin müze bağlamında sergilenmesine yönelik alternatif yaklaşımları savunmaktadır. Bu çalışma, Türkiye'deki bir müzede sergilenen tanınmış bir Neolitik esere ilişkin temsili ve temsil dışı aracılara odaklanmaktadır. Amaç, müze ortamlarında kültürel miras objelerini salt temsillere indirgemenin ötesine geçen sergileme tekniklerini keşfetmektir. Bruno Latour'un çalışmalarından yararlanan araştırma, eserlerin analizinde tarihsel ve kültürel bağlamı anlamanın önemini vurgulamaktadır. Latour'un Actor-Network Teorisi, dinamik ağlar ve dönüşümlere odaklanmasıyla birlikte 'iconoclash' ve 'factish' kavramları, Çatalhöyük Kadın Figürü'nü inceleyen kuramsal çerçeveyi oluşturmaya yardım eder. Çalışma, sergi katalogları, arkeolojik raporlar, görüşmeler, saha ziyaretleri ve arşiv belgeleri gibi çeşitli yöntemlerden oluşan bir yaklaşım kullanmaktadır. Bu yöntemler aracılığıyla, eserin algısını ve anlamını şekillendiren aktörleri görünür kılmak amaçlanır. Çalışmanın temel bölümü, Çatalhöyük Kadın Figürün'i 1962'den günümüze kadar uzanan, çeşitli anlatılar ve sergileme teknikleriyle ele alan sergi ve olaylara odaklanır. Araştırma, ANT ilkelerini kullanarak 'idol-making, freeze framing, contextualizing' olmak üzere üç kümeye odaklanmaktadır. Her küme, eserin fiziksel kopyası, statik anlatısal sınırlamaları ve bilimsel bağlamlamını vurgulama dahil olmak üzere eserin temsilinin farklı yönlerine odaklanır. Sonuç olarak, bu araştırma kültürel eserleri çevreleyen bilimsel açıklamalar ile popüler inançlar arasındaki boşluğu araştırırken, eserler, müzeler, kategorilendirme ve anlatılar arasındaki ilişkileri görünür kılar. Çalışma, geleneksel temsili tekniklere alternatif araken, temsil dışı yaklaşımları vurgulamayı amaçlar. Dolayısıyla, müze ortamlarında kültürel mirasın korunması ve sunumuna ilişkin daha incelikli bir anlayışa katkıda bulunur.Historically, museums have mostly employed display techniques that subjectify objects within narratives. Evolving from fifteenth-century cabinets of curiosities to modern institutions, museums aimed at shaping national identity. However, this thesis advocates for alternative approaches to displaying cultural artifacts in relation to museum context, exploring representational and non-representational mediators concerning a well-known Neolithic artifact displayed in a museum in Turkey. The aim is to discover displaying techniques that go beyond reducing cultural heritage objects to mere representations within museum contexts. Drawing from Bruno Latour' works, the research highlights the importance of understanding historical and cultural contexts in analyzing artifacts. Latour's Actor-Network Theory, based on dynamic networks and transformations alongside his concepts of 'iconoclash' and 'factish', serve as theoretical framework in examining the Neolithic artifact, Woman Figurine from Çatalhöyük. The study uses a multi-methodological approach, including analysis of exhibition catalogs, archaeological reports, interviews, site visits, and archival documents. Through these methods, the intricate web of influences shaping the perception and interpretation of the artifact is traced. The core analysis consists of eight cases starting from 1962 to the present, where the Woman Figurine of Çatalhöyük is presented with various narratives and display techniques. Employing ANT principles, the study analyzes these narratives using three clusters: idol-making, freeze-framing, and contextualizing. Each cluster elaborates on different aspects of the artifact's representation, including its physical reproduction, narrative limitations, and scientific contextualization. In conclusion, this research bridges the gap between scientific explanations and popular beliefs surrounding cultural artifacts while unveiling the complex relationships between artifacts, museums, categorization, and narratives. Thus, it aims to challenge traditional representational techniques while highlighting non-representational approaches. Overall, it contributes to a more delicate understanding of cultural heritage preservation and presentation in museum contexts

    üniversite Kütüphanecilerinin Yapay Zeka Algıları, Kütüphanelerde Uygulama Alanları ve Geleceği

    Günümüzde kütüphaneler, değişen teknoloji ve yeniliklerden etkilenen kurumlar arasında yer almaktadır. Yapay zeka teknolojilerinin popüler hale gelmesi, kütüphane hizmetlerini de dönüştürmeye başlamıştır. Bu araştırmada, Türkiye’deki üniversite kütüphanelerinin yapay zeka teknoloji ve uygulamalarının gelişim sürecinde yapmış olduğu ve yapmayı planladığı düzenlemeleri tespit etmek ve ilgili döneme özel geliştirdikleri hizmetleri belirlemek amacıyla bir anket uygulanmıştır. Anket, Türkiye’deki 208 üniversite kütüphanesinden 111 üniversite kütüphanesi yöneticisinin katılımıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Verilerin analizi ile üniversite kütüphanelerinin yapay zeka teknolojileri ve uygulamaları hakkındaki durumu, bilgi ve farkındalık düzeyleri belirlenmiş, eksik ve zayıf yönlerin geliştirilmesine yönelik önlemler ve öneriler sunulmuştur. İlgili araştırma, yapay zeka konusunda Türkiye’de üniversite kütüphanesi yöneticilerinden görüş ve öneri alarak gerçekleştirilen ilk ve en kapsamlı çalışmadır. Araştırma bulguları, üniversite kütüphanelerinin ChatGPT, Gemini, Grammarly vb. yapay zeka uygulamalarını belirli düzeyde kullandıklarını ancak yapay zeka ile ilgili kurumsal politika geliştirme, personele yetkinlik kazandırma ve planlama konularında ihtiyaçlarının olduğunu ortaya çıkarmıştır

    EyeGuide & EyeConGuide: Gaze-based Visual Guides to Improve 3D Sketching Systems

Automatic guides that appear at relevant sketching areas are convenient to have for a seamless sketching with a guide. We explore guides that exploit eye-tracking to render them adaptive to the user's visual attention. EYEGUIDE and EYECONGUIDE cause visual grid fragments to appear spatially close to the user's intended sketches, based on the information of the user's eye-gaze direction and the 3D position of the hand. Here we evaluated the techniques in two user studies across simple and complex sketching objectives in VR. The results show that gaze-based guides have a positive effect on sketching accuracy, perceived usability and preference over manual activation in the tested tasks.     On Symbolic Prediction of Time Series for Predictive Maintenance Based on Sax-Lstm

    This work proposed a new forecasting approach for predictive maintenance in industrial settings, combining standard segmentation approaches like Symbolic Aggregate Approximation (SAX) and Piecewise Aggregate Approximation (PAA) with LSTM (Long-Short Time Memory). The work aims to construct a robust forecasting mechanism to estimate maintenance requirements in advance properly. We first demonstrated the results of the proposed approach for synthetically generated data and extended the results with real industrial vibration data. The algorithm's performance is assessed using real-world industry data from steel production furnaces, where timely maintenance is critical for increasing operating efficiency and reducing downtime. Experimental results show that using SAX and LSTM for forecasting industrial time series data achieves high accuracy rates (90.2 %) in a reasonable computational time. © 2024 IEEE

    Predictive Maintenance Analysis for Industries

    In this paper, we are focused on deriving conclusions from sensor parameter data that would enable the detection of potential faults and the prediction of failures. We used Random Forest, Decision Tree, Naive Bayes, Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine, and Long Short-Term Memory models to predict faults for sensor data. This analysis, which predicts the failure, has been examined through the pump sensor dataset from Kaggle. It is a binary classification problem, and it performs time series analysis using historical pump sensor data to predict future observations and classify them into a positive label (normal) or a negative label (broken). The pump system must be in perfect condition to ensure continuous power supply. A failure of one of the pumps in the system can lead to a temporary drop in power generation and even a complete outage. This may be avoided if failures are predicted in advance. Therefore, it is important to anticipate failure early to avoid large financial losses. Predictive maintenance is beneficial for industries to prevent these faults and losses. Despite expectations, the Random Forest algorithm outperforms LSTM, followed by Decision Trees. Support Vector Machine and Naive Bayes algorithms show inferior performance compared to Random Forest and LSTM.Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Scienc

    Geometrical Optimization of Spin Clusters for the Preservation of Quantum Coherence

Assuming weak interspin coupling, we explore the various buffer network configura yons that can be embedded in a plane. Our findings reveal that the connectivity of the buffer network is crucial indetermining the preservation duration of quantum coherence in an individual central spin. Specifically, we observe that the maximal planar graph yields the longest preservation time for a given number of buffer spins. Interestingly, our results demonstrate that the preservation time does not consistently increase with an increasing #umber of buffer spins.     A Series of 1,10-Phenanthroline and Prodigiosin Derivatives as Highly Potent and Effective New Anticancer Therapeutic Drugs Against mTOR and HDAC1 Enzymes

    Meme kanseri, beyin metastazı olasılığı en yüksek olan ikinci kanser türü olarak kabul edilmektedir. Ancak bu kanser türüne özgü etkili bir antikanser terapötik/tedavisi mevcut değildir. Bu nedenle, meme kanserinin ilerlemesinde hayati önem taşıyan mTOR ve HDAC enzimlerini inhibe eden yeni ve etkili antikanser terapötik ilaçların/API'lerin oluşturulmasına yönelik artan bir ihtiyaç vardır. Bu çalışma, mTOR ve HDAC enzimlerini hedef alan yeni ve oldukça güçlü antikanser terapötik ilaçlar/API'ler olarak bir dizi prodigiosin ve 1,10-fenantrolin türevlerinin yapı-aktivite ilişkisini ve in silico modellemesini incelemiştir. Oldukça güçlü ligandları tanımlamak için doğal ürün Ps ile karşılaştırmalı analiz yapılmıştır. Bu ligandların MD simülasyonları gerçekleştirilmiş ve MD simülasyonlarının yörüngesinden, ligand-enzim komplekslerinin yapısal konformasyonlarını, stabilitesini, esnekliğini/dalgalanmasını ve genel boyutlarını değerlendirmek için RMSD, RMSF ve Rg parametreleri hesaplanmıştır. Ek olarak, Lipinski'nin beş kuralı ile yapılan ADMET çalışması farmakolojik potansiyeli değerlendirmektedir. Doğal ürün Ps ile karşılaştırıldığında, oldukça güçlü ligandlardan 20'si, özellikle 2a, 6b, 13 ve 13a, HDAC1 ve/veya mTOR enzimlerine karşı, -9,4 ila -7,1 kcal/mol arasında değişen umut verici bağlanma enerjileri ve 225 ila 569 nM arasında değişen inhibisyon sabitleri sergiler. Özellikle, 2a, 5, 6b, 7b ve 13 numaralı ligandlar, her iki enzime karşı etkili ikili etki sergiler. Ayrıca ADMET çalışmasına göre, seçilen ligandların hiçbiri Lipinski'nin beş kriterli kuralından ikiden fazlasını ihlal etmedi; bu da farmakolojik olarak aktif olma potansiyelinin çok umut verici olduğunu gösterdi. Sonuç olarak, in silico hesaplamalı modellemeyi kullanarak, aynı zamanda beyin metastazı riski yüksek olan meme kanseri hastaları için olağanüstü terapötik potansiyel sunan belirli bileşikler elde ettik. Son derece umut verici sonuçlar nedeniyle, seçilmiş birkaç bileşiğin daha ileri sentezleri şu anda laboratuvarlarımızda araştırılmaktadır.Breast cancer is considered the second type of cancer with the highest probability of brain metastasis. However, there is no efficient anticancer therapeutic/treatment specific for this type of cancer. Therefore, there is a growing need for the creation of novel and effective anticancer therapeutic drugs/APIs that inhibit the enzymes, mTOR and HDAC, crucial in the progression of breast cancer. The present study has examined the structure-activity relationship and in silico modeling of a range of prodigiosin and 1,10-phenanthroline derivatives as novel and highly potent anticancer therapeutic drugs/APIs targeting mTOR and HDAC enzymes. Comparative analysis with the natural product Ps was performed to identify highly potent ligands. MD simulations of these ligands have been performed, and from the trajectory of the MD simulations, the RMSD, RMSF, and Rg parameters were computed to assess structural conformations, stability, flexibility/fluctuation, and overall dimensions of ligand-enzyme complexes. Additionally, an ADMET study, adhering to Lipinski's rule of five, evaluates pharmacological potential. 20 of the highly potent ligands, especially 2a, 6b, 13, and 13a, demonstrate promising binding energies ranging from -9.4 to -7.1 kcal/mol and inhibition constants ranging from 225 to 569 nM against HDAC1 and/or mTOR enzymes when compared to the natural product Ps. Significantly, ligands 2a, 5, 6b, 7b, and 13 exhibit effective dual action against both enzymes. Furthermore, according to the ADMET study, none of the selected ligands have violated more than two of the Lipinski's rule of five criteria, indicating a very promising potential to be pharmacologically active. As a result, we have obtained certain compounds using in silico computational modeling that offer exceptional therapeutic potential for breast cancer patients who also have a high risk of brain metastasis. Further syntheses of a few selected compounds are currently being investigated in our laboratories due to the extremely encouraging results

    Molybdenum is a trace dietary element necessary for the survival of humans. Some molybdenum-bearing enzymes are involved in key metabolic activities in the human body (such as xanthine oxidase, aldehyde oxidase and sulfite oxidase). Many molybdenum-based compounds have been widely used in biomedical research. Especially, MoS2-nanomaterials have attracted more attention in cancer diagnosis and treatment recently because of their unique physical and chemical properties. MoS2 can adsorb various biomolecules and drug molecules via covalent or non-covalent interactions because it is easy to modify and possess a high specific surface area, improving its tumor targeting and colloidal stability, as well as accuracy and sensitivity for detecting specific biomarkers. At the same time, in the near-infrared (NIR) window, MoS2 has excellent optical absorption and prominent photothermal conversion efficiency, which can achieve NIR-based phototherapy and NIR-responsive controlled drug-release. Significantly, the modified MoS2-nanocomposite can specifically respond to the tumor microenvironment, leading to drug accumulation in the tumor site increased, reducing its side effects on non-cancerous tissues, and improved therapeutic effect. In this review, we introduced the latest developments of MoS2-nanocomposites in cancer diagnosis and therapy, mainly focusing on biosensors, bioimaging, chemotherapy, phototherapy, microwave hyperthermia, and combination therapy. Furthermore, we also discuss the current challenges and prospects of MoS2-nanocomposites in cancer treatment

    Connecting Through Chatbots: Residents' Insights on Digital Storytelling, Place Attachment, and Value Co-Creation

Drawing on Social Presence Theory, the primary objective of this study was to examine the impact of a chatbot's anthropomorphic conversation style (emotional vs. neutral) on perceived digital storytelling components in destination marketing. Additionally, the research explored how digital storytelling through chatbots influenced residents' place attachment and, consequently, their engagement in value co-creation. To address these research objectives, the study adopted a quantitative perspective and employed an experimental design. Data were collected from 176 residents of Side, Turkey, using convenience sampling, and all hypotheses were confirmed. The perceptions of digital storytelling expressed as emotional (experimental group) were found to be more positive than the neutral (control group). In addition, digital storytelling significantly influenced place attachment, which was a significant predictor of value co-creation. Finally, place attachment partially mediated the relationship between digital storytelling and residents' value co-creation. The findings provided valuable insights for tourism stakeholders such as businesses, policymakers, and researchers, guiding the effective implementation of chatbots in destination marketing, investigating residents' perspectives regarding emotional digital storytelling by chatbots, and enhancing residents' engagement in value co-creation
