    A New Energy-Efficient Design for Quantum-Based Multiplier for Nano-Scale Devices in Internet of Things

However, IoT devices that adopt aggressive duty-cycling for high power efficiency and prolonged lifespan necessitate the incorporation of ultra-low power consumption always-on blocks. The multiplier plays a crucial role in enhancing the capabilities of low-power IoT devices, particularly those operating with energy-efficient batteries that offer extended battery life. The previous multipliers have a struggling speed, enormous occupied area, and high energy consumption; therefore, all prior flaws must be fixed by implementing it in a suitable technology, like the quantum computing. Therefore, this paper examines the ultra-low power circuit for nano-scale IoT platforms. It also suggests novel quantum-based adders for multiplier structure. The proposed designs are simulated using the QCADesignerE 2.2 tool by focusing on energy-efficient and occupied areas for miniaturizing IoT systems

    Development of Scalable Manifold Learning Library: ScaMan

    Bu tez, veri bilimi ve makine öğrenimi alanlarında önemli olan manifold öğrenme ve boyutluluk azaltma tekniklerinin bir incelemesini sunmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın merkezi, bu teknikleri uygulamak için tasarlanmış Python tabanlı bir hesaplama aracı olan 'Scaman'ın (Ölçeklenebilir Manifold Kütüphanesi) geliştirilmesidir. Bu tez, temel manifold öğrenme algoritmalarını incelemektedir. PCA, MDS, LE ve LLE'nin dahil edilmesi ve bu algoritmalarda özdeğer çözücülerin öneminin vurgulanması bu tezde amaçlanmıştır. Bu tezin katkısı, NumPy, SLEPC ve FEAST gibi gelişmiş özdeğer çözücülerin, Scaman paketi içindeki manifold algoritmalarına entegrasyonudur. Ampirik analiz, çeşitli sentetik ve gerçek dünya veri kümeleri kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu analizler, farklı senaryolarda Scaman'ın verimliliğine, doğruluğuna ve pratik faydasına odaklanmıştır. Sonuçlar, aracın özellikle büyük veri kümelerinin işlenmesindeki etkinliğini göstermektedir. FLANN ve SLEPc gibi kütüphanelerin avantajları, Scaman'ın komşuluk matrislerin oluşturulmasında ve özdeğer hesaplamasında verimliliğini kanıtlar. Bu tezin bir çıktısı, araştırmacılar ve uygulayıcılar için hesaplamalı bir araç sağlamaktadır. Gelecek planları arasında, daha fazla algoritma ekleyerek, ölçeklenebilirliği geliştirerek ve çeşitli alanlara özgü veri odaklı senaryolar uygulayarak Scaman'ı genişletme yer almakltadır.This thesis presents an exploration of manifold learning and dimensionality reduction techniques, which are crucial in the fields of data science and machine learning. The center of this study is the development and evaluation of 'Scaman (Scalable Manifold Library), a Python-based computational tool designed to implement these techniques. This thesis investigates the key manifold learning algorithms. Including PCA,MDS, LE, and LLE and emphasizing the importance of eigenvalue solvers in these algorithms. The contribution of this thesis is the integration of advanced eigensolvers like NumPy, SLEPc and FEAST into key manifold algorithms within scaman package. The empirical analysis was conducted using various synthetic and real-world datasets. Those analyses focused on the efficiency, accuracy, and practical utility of scaman in different scenarios. Results demonstrate the tool's effectiveness, especially in handling large datasets. The advantages of FLANN and SLEPc prove scaman's efficiency in the creation of adjacency matrices and eigenvalue computation. The outcome of this thesis provides a computational tool for researchers and practitioners. Future directions include expanding the tool's capabilities by adding more algorithms, improving scalability, and applying various domain specific data-driven scenarios

    Transfer Learning for Phishing Detection: Screenshot-Based Website Classification

    Phishing remains a significant threat in the evolving cybersecurity landscape as phishing websites become increasingly similar to legitimate websites, complicating detection using traditional methods. This study explores AI-based solutions for screenshot-based phishing detection, utilizing the MTLP dataset and applying transfer learning with pretrained models (DenseNet, ResNet, EfficientNet, Inception, MobileNet, VGG) using the timm library. The study also discusses challenges related to phishing datasets and compares publicly available datasets, highlighting MTLP Dataset's strengths. DenseNetBlur121D was identified as the top-performing model, achieving an accuracy of 95.28%, a recall of 95.38%, a precision of 93.42%, and an F1 score of 94.39% when applied to the entire MTLP dataset. Both the model code and dataset are publicly available, providing a valuable resource for further research and development in this domain. © 2024 IEEE

    A new energy-economy-environment modeling framework: Insights from decarbonization of the Turkish power Sector towards net-zero Emission targets

Erinc/0000-0002-3123-4374The power sector plays a crucial role towards decarbonization for many economies, especially in line with the net-zero targets to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees C. Technical constraints intrinsic to the sector, penetration of new technologies, investment and operational costs, and its connections with the rest of the economy make the power sector a complex system to analyze. Although there are numerous studies to integrate bottom-up power sector technology models with top-down macroeconomic models, this study is the first attempt to link the three separate and interrelated models within a single framework: an electricity market simulation model, a generation expansion planning model, and an applied general equilibrium model. The proposed framework is implemented to analyze a feasible decarbonization scenario for T & uuml;rkiye, with a particular focus on the power sector. The results suggest that, given the existing capacity and potential for renewables, T & uuml;rkiye can achieve a coal-phase out by early 2030s, alongside a trajectory towards a full-fledged fossil fuel phase-out in power generation.     Interaction Between Varying Social Ties on Health: Perceived Partner Responsiveness and Institutional Trust

    Tosyali, Furkan/0000-0002-1369-9960; Harma, Mehmet/0000-0002-3955-1526The interplay between different forms of social relationships, that is, perceived partner responsiveness and institutional trust, on subjective health evaluations was examined for the first time. There were 1241 respondents who had a romantic relationship. After adjusting for the covariates, findings suggested that greater perceived partner responsiveness and institutional trust led respondents to report better subjective health. The positive link between perceived partner responsiveness and subjective health was more pronounced among the respondents reporting a lower level of institutional trust. Such an interaction could be an indicator pointing out the compensatory role of close relationship dynamics. Given that finding, public health authorities and practitioners could be encouraged to be aware of the adaptive function of social ties on health and focus on maintaining the strength of intimate social ties and building trust between authority gradients.     Exploring the Dynamics of Virtual Onboarding and Its Impact on Software Developer Turnover Intention in the Tech Industry During Covid-19

    Yazılım endüstrisinde yazılım geliştiricileri, projelerin ve şirketlerin başarısı için hayati öneme sahiptir. Yazılımcıları şirkete çekmek ve entegre etmek kritik öneme sahipken, onları elde tutma stratejileri insan kaynakları ve yetenek yönetiminde esastır. Bu çalışma, COVID-19 sırasında yazılımcıların başarılı bir şekilde sanal olarak oryantasyonunu ve bunun işten ayrılma niyetlerine etkisini araştırmaktadır. Tez, yeni işe alınan yazılımcıların karşılaştığı özgün zorlukları ve başarı faktörlerini ele almak için mevcut literatüre dayalı olarak tasarlanmış yeni bir Sanal Entegrasyon ve Tutundurma Çerçevesi (VIRF) önermektedir. Bu araştırmada, açıklayıcı ardışık tasarıma sahip bir araçsal vaka çalışması yaklaşımı kullanılmıştır. Çevrimiçi anket yoluyla 150 yazılımcıdan toplanan verilerin analizinde iki aşamalı yapısal eşitlik modeli kullanılmıştır. Ek olarak, bulguları tamamlamak için sekiz yazılımcı ve dört yönetici ile yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Nicel sonuçlar, sanal oryantasyon başarısını artırmada resmi oryantasyon, teknik eğitim, mentorluk ve teknolojinin ve kaynakların zamanında erişilebilirliğinin önemini vurgulamaktadır. Etkili sanal oryantasyon, daha yüksek iş tatminine, daha iyi işyeri ilişkilerine ve işten ayrılma niyetlerinin azalmasına yol açar ve bu etkiler iş tatmini ve işyeri ilişki kalitesi ile aracılıdır. Pandemi ile ilgili uzaktan çalışma zorlukları ve refah sorunları gibi endişeler, sanal oryantasyonun başarısını olumsuz etkilemiştir. Nitel bulgular, yalnızca nicel analiz tarafından desteklenmeyen uzaktan çalışma fırsatlarının faydalarını ortaya koymaktadır. Yönetsel perspektifler, ekip üyelerini etkili bir şekilde entegre etmek için stratejileri uyarlamanın önemini vurgulamakta ve kriz zamanlarında özellikle ilk günden itibaren güçlü destek mekanizmalarının gerekliliğini önermektedir. Uzaktan çalışma ortamında, oryantasyonun etkinliği, açık iletişimi, güvenilir desteği, eğitimi ve değişen koşullara uyum sağlama esnekliğini vurgulayan kapsamlı bir stratejiye dayanır. Bu tez, teknoloji şirketleri ve akademi için sanal oryantasyon süreçlerini geliştirmeye ve ilgi çekici bir uzaktan çalışma ortamı oluşturmaya yönelik pratik öneriler sunmaktadır. Bu bulgular, teknoloji endüstrisinde yazılımcı oryantasyonunun gelecekteki kriz planlaması için önemlidir.Developers are pivotal to project and company success in the software industry. Attracting and integrating developers are crucial, and strategies for retaining them are essential in human resource and talent management. This study investigates the factors and challenges associated with the successful virtual onboarding of software developers during COVID-19 and its impact on turnover intentions. The thesis proposes a novel Virtual Integration and Retention Framework (VIRF) founded on existing literature to address newly hired developers' specific challenges and success factors. This research employed an instrumental case study approach with an explanatory sequential design. A two-staged structural equation model was used to analyze data collected from 150 developers through an online survey. Additionally, semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight developers and four managers to complement the findings. Quantitative results emphasize the importance of formal orientation, technical training, mentoring, and timely availability of technology and resources in enhancing virtual onboarding success. Effective virtual onboarding leads to higher job satisfaction, better workplace relationships, and reduced turnover intentions, mediated by job satisfaction and workplace relationship quality. Pandemic concerns, including remote work challenges and wellbeing issues, negatively impacted virtual onboarding success. Qualitative findings reveal the benefits of remote work opportunities, the only factor not supported by quantitative analysis. Managerial perspectives highlight the importance of adapting strategies to integrate team members effectively, suggesting the need for robust support mechanisms from day one, especially during times of crisis. In a remote work environment, the effectiveness of onboarding relies on a thorough strategy emphasizing clear communication, reliable support, training, and flexibility to adjust to changing conditions. This thesis offers insights for tech companies and academia, providing practical recommendations for virtual onboarding processes and building an engaging remote work environment. These findings are key for future crisis planning on developer onboarding in the tech industry

    The Impact of the Characteristics of Self-Service Technologies on Customer Experience Quality: Insights for Airline Companies

    Research on self-service technologies (SSTs) has not been fully developed, and it is still open to debate with many aspects concerning its effect on customer experience and potential outcomes empirically, especially in the airline industry. Studies regarding these technologies and their potential impact are needed in the airline industry as they represent an integral part of the tourism industry. Previous studies on the airline industry have merely focused on SSTs and their impact on customer adoption, tendency to use, and satisfaction. The SSTs have the capacity to influence how customers perceive their experience in the overall process of getting a service. Thus, customer experience quality (CXQ) is influenced by the perceived characteristics of SSTs. The literature on the impact of SSTs on CXQ is considerably limited in general, particularly in the airline industry. More research on this issue is needed, especially following the outbreak of COVID-19; thus, this study aims to investigate a model that integrates the impact of the perceived characteristics of SSTs as antecedents and outcomes of CXQ. The research design of this study is based on a mixed-method approach: a preliminary study consisting of two qualitative investigations and a main study through face-to-face questionnaires with airline passengers. Structural equation modeling (SEM) is applied to the data collected from passengers traveling with the airline company in Turkey (N=501) through questionnaires applied as mall intercepts. The results of this study include extending the CXQ dimensions to add consistency and institutionalism, hence contributing to the service and tourism literature.     Effect of Hand and Object Visibility in Navigational Tasks Based on Rotational and Translational Movements in Virtual Reality

Users might feel the urge to go through biomechanical changes, such as re-positioning the head to visualize the interaction area. In this paper, we investigate the effect of hand avatar and object visibility in navigational tasks using a VR headset. We performed two user studies where participants grasped a small, cylindrical object and navigated it through the virtual obstacles performing rotational or translational movements. We used three different visibility conditions for the hand avatar (opaque, transparent, and invisible) and two conditions for the object (opaque and transparent). Our results indicate that participants performed faster and with fewer collisions using the invisible and transparent hands compared to the opaque hand and fewer collisions with the opaque object compared to the transparent one. Furthermore, participants preferred to use the combination of the transparent hand avatar with the opaque object. The findings of this study might be useful to researchers and developers in deciding the visibility/transparency conditions of hand avatars and virtual objects for tasks that require precise navigational activities.Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Scienc

    Modeling the Dependency Structure Between Quality Characteristics in Multi-Stage Manufacturing Processes With Copula Functions

    This study is about multi-stage manufacturing processes and their control by statistical process control modeling. There are two kinds of dependence structures in a multi-stage manufacturing process: one is the dependence between the stages of the process, and the other is the dependence between the concerned quality characteristics. This study employs state-space models to demonstrate the dependency structure between the process stages and uses the Kalman filter method to estimate the states of the processes. In this setup, copula modeling is proposed to determine the dependence structure between the quality characteristics of interest. A simulation study is conducted to assess the model's accuracy. As a result, it was found that the model gives highly accurate predictions according to the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) criteria (<10%). © 2024 Ramazan YAMAN.
