The Enhancement of Location Determination in Indoor Positioning Systems
Indoor positioning technologies have advanced significantly in recent years and offer a variety of possible uses. Indoor positioning has an important role in many industries. If give examples of the main sectors that do this indoor positioning: industrial automation, smart home systems, construction, healthcare, and location-based service areas. Technological developments of this sector aim to constantly increase the sensitivity and accuracy of existing indoor positioning techniques. This thesis focuses on reducing position detection error occurring in Non-Line-Of-Sight (NLOS) scenarios in Ultra Wideband technology by applying the Federated Kalman Filter. It has been demonstrated that using the Federated Kalman Filter in NLOS circumstances greatly reduces position deviation. In this thesis, measurements made indoors location Line-Of-Sight (LOS) and NLOS conditions were analyzed using the Federated Kalman Filter. The results obtained in this thesis provide a promising basis for future studies in the field of ultra-broadband technology. The results of the thesis underline the potential for improved performance and accuracy to be gained in challenging operational environments. The Federated Kalman Filter showed an average accuracy improvement of approximately 96.64%. After applying the Federated Kalman Filter, the error margin which had previously been as high as 0.30 meters was significantly lowered to 0.0072 meters. Similarly, a comparable increase of approximately 96% was observed in NLOS conditions
Tunnel-Like Region Observed as a Potential Allosteric Site In Staphylococcus Aureus Glyceraldehyde-3 Dehydrogenase
Akten, Ebru Demet/0000-0002-0358-3171Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) catalyzing the sixth step of glycolysis has been investigated for allosteric features that might be used as potential target for specific inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus (S.aureus). X-ray structure of bacterial enzyme for which a tunnel-like opening passing through the center previously proposed as an allosteric site has been subjected to six independent 500 ns long Molecular Dynamics simulations. Harmonic bond restraints were employed at key residues to underline the allosteric feature of this region. A noticeable reduction was observed in the mobility of NAD+ binding domains when restrictions were applied. Also, a substantial decrease in cross-correlations between distant C alpha fluctuations was detected throughout the structure. Mutual information (MI) analysis revealed a similar decrease in the degree of correspondence in positional fluctuations in all directions everywhere in the receptor. MI between backbone and sidechain torsional variations changed its distribution profile and decreased considerably around the catalytic sites when restraints were employed. Principal component analysis clearly showed that the restrained state sampled a narrower range of conformations than apo state, especially in the first principal mode due to restriction in the conformational flexibility of NAD+ binding domain. Clustering the trajectory based on catalytic site residues displayed a smaller repertoire of conformations for restrained state compared to apo. Representative snapshots subjected to k-shortest pathway analysis revealed the impact of bond restraints on the allosteric communication which displayed distinct optimal and suboptimal pathways for two states, where observed frequencies of critical residues Gln51 and Val283 at the proposed site changed considerably.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey [218M320]This work has been partially supported by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK Project #218M320)

The Gtp-Tubulin Cap Is Not the Determinant of Microtubule End Stability in Cells
Cassidy, Anna/0000-0002-5171-9002; Zanic, Marija/0000-0002-5127-5819Microtubules are dynamic cytoskeletal polymers essential for cell division, motility, and intracellular transport. Microtubule dynamics are characterized by dynamic instability-the ability of individual microtubules to switch between phases of growth and shrinkage. Dynamic instability can be explained by the GTP-cap model, suggesting that a "cap" of GTP-tubulin subunits at the growing microtubule end has a stabilizing effect, protecting against microtubule catastrophe-the switch from growth to shrinkage. Although the GTP-cap is thought to protect the growing microtubule end, whether the GTP-cap size affects microtubule stability in cells is not known. Notably, microtubule end-binding proteins, EBs, recognize the nucleotide state of tubulin and display comet-like localization at growing microtubule ends, which can be used as a proxy for the GTP-cap. Here, we employ high spatiotemporal resolution imaging to compare the relationship between EB comet size and microtubule dynamics in interphase LLC-PK1 cells to that measured in vitro. Our data reveal that the GTP-cap size in cells scales with the microtubule growth rate in the same way as in vitro. However, we find that microtubule ends in cells can withstand transition to catastrophe even after the EB comet is lost. Thus, our findings suggest that the presence of the GTP-cap is not the determinant of microtubule end stability in cells.NIH [CA68485, DK58404, EY08126]; Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center Resource Share Scholarship [2022-3739440]; National Institutes of Health [T32GM008320, R35GM119552]; American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship [19PRE34380083]; Kadir Has University Startup Funds; American Heart Association (AHA) [19PRE34380083] Funding Source: American Heart Association (AHA)We thank G. MOBRO: multi-objective battle royale optimizer
Battle Royale Optimizer (BRO) is a recently proposed optimization algorithm that has added a new category named game-based optimization algorithms to the existing categorization of optimization algorithms. Both continuous and binary versions of this algorithm have already been proposed. Generally, optimization problems can be divided into single-objective and multi-objective problems. Although BRO has successfully solved single-objective optimization problems, no multi-objective version has been proposed for it yet. This gap motivated us to design and implement the multi-objective version of BRO (MOBRO). Although there are some multi-objective optimization algorithms in the literature, according to the no-free-lunch theorem, no optimization algorithm can efficiently solve all optimization problems. We applied the proposed algorithm to four benchmark datasets: CEC 2009, CEC 2018, ZDT, and DTLZ. We measured the performance of MOBRO based on three aspects: convergence, spread, and distribution, using three performance criteria: inverted generational distance, maximum spread, and spacing. We also compared its obtained results with those of three state-of-the-art optimization algorithms: the multi-objective Gray Wolf optimization algorithm (MOGWO), the multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm (MOPSO), the multi-objective artificial vulture’s optimization algorithm (MOAVAO), the optimization algorithm for multi-objective problems (MAOA), and the multi-objective non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm III (NSGA-III). The obtained results approve that MOBRO outperforms the existing optimization algorithms in most of the benchmark suites and operates competitively with them in the others. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2023
Çalışmamız, ÇSY puanının on alt kategorisi içinde emisyonlar, kaynak kullanımı, ürün sorumluluğu, insan hakları, işgücü ve kurumsal sosyal sorumluluk stratejisinin firma temerrüt riskini önemli ölçüde azalttığına dair yeni kanıtlar sunmaktadır.
The association of HLA-DRB1 alleles and MBL2 gene variant in pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia patients
Karadeniz, Sedat/0000-0002-1947-2484; OZDILLI, KURSAT/0000-0002-7129-5024; ogret, yeliz/0000-0001-9732-5474; pehlivan, sacide/0000-0003-1272-5845Introduction: Epidemio logic studies on pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemias (ALL) have been conducted to evaluate the possible risk factors including genetic, infectious and environmental factors with the objective of idenfying the etiology. Mannose-binding lectin 2 (MBL2) plays an important role in first-line immune defense. HLA DRB1 alleles play a role in presentation of peptides to T cells and in activation of the adaptive immune response. Objective: In our study, we aimed to investigate both the MBL2 gene variant and HLA-DRB1 alleles in pediatric ALL patients. Materials: In this study, 86 high-risk ALL patients and 100 controls were included. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) and PCRsequence specific primer (SSP) methods were used for detection of polymorphism of the MBL2 and HLA-DRB1 alleles, respectively. Results: The frequency of the MBL2 AB genotype was lower in female ALL patients, compared to male ALL patients (p = 0.034). An association was found between the MBL2 BB genotype and DRB1*07 and among patients with the MBL2 BB genotype; those who also carried the DRB1*07 and *04 alleles were significantly higher than those without the DRB1*07 and *04 alleles. (p = 0.048, p = 0.022, respectively). Conclusion: This is the first study suggesting that the MBL2 BB genotype in association with the DRB1*07 or co-inheritance of the HLA-DRB1*04 and HLA DRB1*07 may have an impact on the etiopathogenesis of the disease. The Impact of Evolutionary Computation on Robotic Design: a Case Study With an Underactuated Hand Exoskeleton
Robotic exoskeletons can enhance human strength and aid people with physical disabilities. However, designing them to ensure safety and optimal performance presents significant challenges. Developing exoskeletons should incorporate specific optimization algorithms to find the best design. This study investigates the potential of Evolutionary Computation (EC) methods in robotic design optimization, with an underactuated hand exoskeleton (U-HEx) used as a case study. We propose improving the performance and usability of the U-HEx design, which was initially optimized using a naive brute-force approach, by integrating EC techniques such as Genetic Algorithm and Big Bang-Big Crunch Algorithm. Comparative analysis revealed that EC methods consistently yield more precise and optimal solutions than brute force in a significantly shorter time. This allowed us to improve the optimization by increasing the number of variables in the design, which was impossible with naive methods. The results show significant improvements in terms of the torque magnitude the device transfers to the user, enhancing its efficiency. These findings underline the importance of performing proper optimization while designing exoskeletons, as well as providing a significant improvement to this specific robotic design.TUBITAK [123M690, 121C145, 121C147]This work is funded by TUBITAK project number 123M690 and partially funded by TUB.ITAK project number 121C145 and 121C147.Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Scienc
Personality and Conceptions of Religiosity Across the World's Religions
Research assessing personality traits and religiosity across cultures has typically neglected variation across religious affiliations and has been limited to a small number of personality traits. This study examines the relationship between the Big Five personality traits and their facets, two theoretically distinct measures of religiosity, and twelve other personality traits across seven religious affiliations and 61 countries/regions. The proportion of participants following a religion varied substantially across countries (e.g., Indonesia = 99%; Estonia = 7%). Both measures of religiosity were related to agreeableness, conscientiousness, happiness, and fairness; however; relations with religiosity as a social axiom were stronger and less variable across religious affiliations. Additionally, personality-religiosity links were more robust in low-development, high-conflict, and collectivist nations. © 2024 Elsevier Inc
Turkey's Rushed Liberalization: Wartime Neutrality and the Devaluation of 1946
Isci, Onur/0000-0002-8210-7375This article reinterprets the Recep Peker cabinet's 1946 decisions to devalue the lira and deregulate foreign trade, which are often described as US-encouraged and liberalizing. The authors argue that alignment with the US did not dictate policy. They begin with World War II and show that, by 1944, Turkey had already been drawn into an Anglo-American international order. The authors then suggest that devaluation should be understood as a response: as a Europe-oriented policy with specific, short-term goals. They conclude that 1946 was less a radical liberalizing pivot than an attempt to address the difficult legacy of wartime neutrality
