Sondage sur les différences dans l’implantation de la pratique fondée sur des données probantes en fonction de cinq variables propres aux psychothérapeutes

    No full text
Given the divide between research and practice, there has been an increased focus on evidence-based practice (EBP) in psychology. EBP has been defined as the integration of three main components during clinical decision-making: (a) best available research evidence, (b) clinical expertise, and (c) client characteristics, cultures, and treatment preferences. However, little is known about the self-ratings of implementing EBP or its components among psychotherapy providers. Secondary data analyses of a survey of Canadian psychotherapy providers (Middleton et al., 2020) investigated differences in providers’ self-ratings of implementing EBP according to five psychotherapist variables. These psychotherapist variables included the primary therapeutic approach, the number of years of professional experience, the primary setting of practice, the level of education, and the professional capacity of practice. Results indicated significant results for many psychotherapist variables. Among other findings, while psychotherapy providers who were oriented primarily toward cognitive and/or behavioural approaches had significantly higher self-ratings of implementing EBP than did those with a psychoanalytic/psychodynamic approach, providers with a master’s degree had significantly lower self-ratings than did those with a Ph.D. or with postdoctoral training.

Circuit partitions and signed interlacement in 4-regular graphs

    No full text
    Let FF be a 4-regular graph. Each circuit partition PP of FF has a corresponding touch-graph Tch(P)Tch(P); the circuits in PP correspond to vertices of Tch(P)Tch(P), and the vertices of FF correspond to edges of Tch(P)Tch(P). We discuss the connection between modified versions of the interlacement matrix of an Euler system of FF and the cycle space of Tch(P)Tch(P), over GF(2)GF(2) and R\mathbb{R}

Mapping and Characterizing Benthic Habitats in Northern Labrador: Insights for Marine Conservation and Indigenous Resource Management

In the face of rapid climate change impacting Canada’s northern coastlines, northern fish, benthic ecosystems, and ecosystem services are being heavily impacted. The ongoing environmental pressures continue to influence the social, cultural, and physiological well-being of Labrador Inuit who are intrinsically linked with the marine environment. Collaborating closely with the Nunatsiavut Government, this research presents a detailed map of benthic faunal assemblages in an understudied northern inshore system, providing essential information on benthic habitats and incorporating community-identified fishing locations for ogak (Greenland cod). A total of 75 drop-camera transects unveiled 44,809 organisms belonging to 50 morphotaxa, clustered into three distinct faunal assemblages. Fishing locations were represented in two of three assemblages which were heterogeneous and composed mainly of pebbles, boulders, and rhodolith beds. The unrepresented assemblage was homogeneous and composed entirely of fine sediments. Numerous benthic taxa, potentially sensitive to environmental disturbances, were identified, including tube-dwelling anemones, large sea squirts, erect bryozoans, and extensive rhodolith beds. Insufficient data on benthic species and their associated habitats limit our comprehension of species distributions, abundances, and functional roles in northern waters, creating obstacles for effective self-governance. This research identifies the distribution and structure of benthic habitats in a culturally and economically important region of the Labrador coast, feeding directly into conservation and management strategies of marine habitats under the pressures of climate change in Nunatsiavut

Targeting the vulnerable: A critical analysis of helicopter transport for obstetric emergencies in Nepal

In tandem with national efforts to develop a system of pre-hospital care via ground ambulance services, leading private hospitals in Nepal are competing to institute air ambulances, or helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS). In a nation with limited infrastructure and extreme geography, helicopters offer a high-tech solution to overcoming transportation delays in emergency medicine. Private HEMS, due to the exorbitant costs, invites intersectional analysis along the lines of how wealth, caste or ethnicity, gender, and remoteness shape who is able to utilize it. In contrast, the launch of a governmental program devoted to transporting rural obstetric emergency patients to hospitals, using army helicopters, stands out as an unexpected transformation of a status quo in which only wealthy, elite individuals could access such medical care. Through a review of the trends in maternal mortality and ethnographic field research with doctors in Kathmandu and Kavrepalanchok who are leading the development of emergency medical transport, this paper explores competing interpretations of the driving forces and implications of HEMS, analyzing the benefits and drawbacks to targeting the vulnerable in health interventions

Towards a Conscious Integration of EDI Values on Canadian Campuses: A Case Study Analysis

Campuses are focusing on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives and programs as a response to urgent calls for higher education institutions to exemplify these principles. This study focused on determining the current environment for embedding EDI principles to identify next steps in galvanizing efforts in this work. This qualitative multi-case study had two phases. In the first phase, we conducted an environmental scan of the websites of the 15 research-intensive universities in Canada (U15) to determine how EDI efforts were included in any publicly available documents and on the websites. In the second phase, we conducted semi-structured interviews with members of an EDI Champions committee at one campus to explore how the EDI commitments were being actualized on that campus. Participants confirmed that work was ongoing but that determining a shared understanding of EDI, articulating a strategy for implementation, and promoting EDI efforts on campus faced many challenges including creating understanding and commitment across campus to further the EDI strategies. Campuses need a well-articulated strategy complete with processes and targets to inform campus members about EDI, determine ways to support action, and articulate ways to measure progress against EDI goals

Youth in Calgary\u27s Housing Programs: A Case Study

    No full text
In this paper we evaluate the housing success realized by youth enrolled in a large, community-based housing program true to the philosophy of Housing First and attentive to the specific needs of youth. We examine the program in a non-experimental setting and so provide evaluations of the practical usefulness of such programs to system operators and policymakers. Our examination makes use of administrative data sets describing the experiences of youths with a wide variety of personal characteristics and homeless experiences. We evaluate rates of success in housing programs over a minimum of one year and for up to seven years. Evaluating success over a long time period makes it possible to define success as not only retaining housing but also establishing housing outside the system of care and so without case management

Canada’s Productivity Challenge: The Hidden Costs of Resource Abundance and U.S. Dependence

Canada’s productivity is lagging behind that of the U.S. and other advanced economies. Between 2001 and 2021, labour productivity increased by 19 percentage points less in Canada than in the U.S. (Gu and Willox, 2023), coinciding with a decline in investment per worker (Gu, 2024). A lack of competition, along with various constraints such as heavy regulation and interprovincial trade costs, is frequently cited to explain the productivity lag of Canadian firms (Rogers, 2024). This note proposes a different perspective: while abundant natural resources and privileged access to the U.S. market are often seen as key economic strengths for Canada, we examine how these very advantages may also act as constraints on productivity growth

Le rapport au savoir des élèves en transition du primaire au secondaire : une revue de littérature

This narrative literature review explores the relationship to knowledge (RK) and its influence on student engagement, particularly through their school experiences, social contexts, and institutional expectations. In primary school, learning is often shaped by emotional and social bonds. In contrast, at the secondary level, RK becomes more focused on performance and evaluation, leading to a certain distance from knowledge among students, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Studies describe a significant evolution of RK between primary and secondary school, but they do not specifically address the school transition. Yet, in many studies, the move from primary to secondary school is presented as a particularly challenging stage for students. This is why gaining a deeper understanding of the evolution of RK, especially through interactive processes during this period, offers a promising avenue for research to help prevent school dropout and adapt pedagogical practices.

Curriculum Enacted as the Aesthetic in British Columbia: Where Are We Now? Where Can We Go? And How Might We Get There?

This paper outlines the benefits and possibilities of enacting aesthetic education in the context of public education in British Columbia. Teacher training and working conditions are discussed as areas that influence teachers’ abilities to develop or shift pedagogy. Through exploring where we are now, where we can go and how might we get there, aesthetic education is encouraged as a pedagogy, while acknowledging the lived experience of teachers both pre-service and in-service. Factors that work to encourage or make challenging pedagogical shifts are discussed as is the role of teachers’ learning and working environments in supporting their professional growth
