Search for pair production of first-generation scalar leptoquarks at √s=13 TeV
A search for the pair production of first-generation scalar leptoquarks is performed using proton-proton collision data recorded at 13 TeV center-of-mass energy with the CMS detector at the LHC. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb(-1). The leptoquarks are assumed to decay promptly to a quark and either an electron or a neutrino, with branching fractions beta and 1 - beta, respectively. The search targets the decay final states comprising two electrons, or one electron and large missing transverse momentum, along with two quarks that are detected as hadronic jets. First-generation scalar leptoquarks with masses below 1435 (1270) GeVare excluded for beta = 1.0(0.5). These are the most stringent limits on the mass of first-generation scalar leptoquarks to date. The data are also interpreted to set exclusion limits in the context of an R-parity violating supersymmetric model, predicting promptly decaying top squarks with a similar dielectron final state

Although the share of the multimedia contents is considerable in this data pool, the search for the desired multimedia contents can still be a challenging task. One of the most frequent motivations of internet users seeking for still photographs or videos is to create a feeling of remote presence. These people need to put a significant effort into collecting different types of files, such as action videos, aerial scenes, and still photographs. When image and video files are geotagged (tagged with location data), they can be associated with maps. Current technologies allow us to determine and record information about camera position and orientation. In this thesis, it is aimed to solve problems related to the production and visualization of the location aware multimedia content. Our approach involves using available devices and custom-designed hardware for positioning via Global Positioning System sensors and Inertial Measurement Unit sensors to create query-ready multimedia content. Images and videos, along with location and orientation data, are organized in a database. The designed web application reorganizes the queried multimedia content using the relative location aware data, then creates animations to give guidance on a path for travelers. Therefore, visualization of the multimedia contents on the map according to the movement animation on the trip path also provides the remote presence experience along with the information about travel.Web servis ve uygulamalarının çeşitliliği, çok sayıda internet kullanıcısının ilgisini çekmekte ve büyük miktarda içerik üretmesine olanak sağlamaktadır. dosyaları toplamak kayda değer zorlukta bir uğraş olmaktadır. Görüntü ve videolar coğrafi etiketlendiği (konum bilgisiyle etiketlenme) zaman, harita ile ilişkilendirilebilmektedir. Güncel teknolojiler, kameranın pozisyonu ve yönüyle alakalı bilgilerin belirlenip bu bilginin kaydedilmesine olanak sağlamaktadır. Bu tezde multimedya içeriklerinin konuma dayalı bilgilerin ve yön bilgisinin üretilmesinde ve görüntülenmesindeki problemlerin çözülmesi hedeflenmiştir. Bu konudaki yaklaşımımız halihazırda bulunan cihazlar ve Küresel Konumlama Sistemi (GPS) sensörleri ve Atalet Ölçüm Sistem (IMU)
sensörleri ile tasarlanan donanımın sorguya hazır multimedya içerik üretmesini içermektedir.
Görüntü ve videolar ilgili konum ve yön bilgileriyle beraber veritabanı oluşturulmuştur. Tasarlanan web uygulaması sorguya hazır multimedya içeriklerini ilişkili konum ve yön bilgileri ile düzenleyerek animasyonlar oluşturmakta ve kullanıcıya dilediği seyahatte rehberlik sağlamaktadır ayrıca sunulan animasyon kullanıcıya seyahat rotasında uzakta bulunma deneyimini sağlamaktadır
Search for the chiral magnetic effect at the LHC with the CMS experiment
Searches for the chiral magnetic effect (CME) using charge-dependent azimuthal correlations with respect to event planes are presented in PbPb collisions at 5.02 TeV and pPb collisions at 5.02 and 8.16 TeV, with the CMS experiment at the LHC. The azimuthal correlations with respect to the second- and third-order event planes are explored as a function of pseudorapidity, transverse momentum, and event multiplicity, which provides new insights into the underlying background correlations. By employing an event-shape engineering technique, a linear dependence of charge-dependent correlations on the second-order anisotropy flow (nu(2)) is observed, and the upper limits on the nu(2)-independent fraction, which is directly related to the CME signal, are obtained at 95% confidence level for both pPb and PbPb collisions. These results provide strong constraints on the search for the chiral magnetic effect at LHC energies, and establish new guidelines for searches in future experiments
Single chain cationic polymer dot as a fluorescent probe for cell imaging and selective determination of hepatocellular carcinoma cells
PubMed: 31334629This letter describes formation of single chain cationic polymer dots (Pdots) made of poly[1,4-dimethy1-1-(34(2,4,5-trimethylthiophen-3-yl)oxy)propyl)piperazin-1-ium bromide] conjugated polyelectrolyte (CPE). The single chain Pdot formation relies on a simple process which is a rapid nanophase separation between CPE solution of ethylene glycol and water. Pdots show narrow monodisperse size distribution with a 3.6 nm in diameter exhibiting high brightness and excellent colloidal and optical stability. It has been demonstrated that photoluminescent Pdots provide selective nuclear translocation to hepatocellular carcinoma cells as compared to healthy liver cells. The Pdot labeling effectively discriminates cancer cells in the coculture media. Pdots hold great promise as a luminescent probe to diagnose cancer cells in histology and may guide surgeons during operations to precisely separate out cancerous tissue due to augmented fluorescence brightness
Observation of single top quark production in association with a Z boson in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV
PubMed: 31012605The observation of single top quark production in association with a Z boson and a quark (tZq) is reported. Events from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV containing three charged leptons (either electrons or muons) and at least two jets are analyzed. The data were collected with the CMS detector in 2016 and 2017 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 77.4fb(-1). The increased integrated luminosity, a multivariate lepton identification, and a redesigned analysis strategy improve significantly the sensitivity of the analysis compared to previous searches for tZq production. The tZq signal is observed with a significance well over 5 standard deviations. The measured tZq production cross section is sigma(pp -> tZq -> tl(+) l(-) q) = 111 +/- 13 (stat)(-9)(+11) (syst) fb, for dilepton invariant masses above 30 GeV, in agreement with the standard model expectation
Pseudorapidity distributions of charged hadrons in xenon-xenon collisions at √sNN=5.44 TeV
Measurements of the pseudorapidity distributions of charged hadrons produced in xenon-xenon collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of root S-NN = 5.44 TeV are presented. The measurements are based on data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The yield of primary charged hadrons produced in xenon-xenon collisions in the pseudorapidity range vertical bar eta vertical bar < 3.2 is determined using the silicon pixel detector in the CMS tracking system. For the 5% most central collisions, the chargedhadron pseudorapidity density in the midrapidity region vertical bar eta vertical bar < 0.5 is found to be 1 187 +/- 36 (syst), with a negligible statistical uncertainty. The rapidity distribution of charged hadrons is also presented in the range vertical bar y vertical bar < 3.2 and is found to be independent of rapidity around y = 0. Existing Monte-Carlo event generators are unable to simultaneously describe both results. Comparisons of charged-hadron multiplicities between xenon-xenon and lead-lead collisions at similar collision energies show that particle production at midrapidity is strongly dependent on the collision geometry in addition to the system size and collision energy. Search for anomalous electroweak production of vector boson pairs in association with two jets in proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV
A search for anomalous electroweak production of WW, WZ, and ZZ boson pairs in association with two jets in proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 TeV at the LHC is reported. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb(-1) collected with the CMS detector. Events are selected by requiring two jets with large rapidity separation and invariant mass, one or two leptons (electrons or muons), and a W or Z boson decaying hadronically. No excess of events with respect to the standard model background predictions is observed and constraints on the structure of quartic vector boson interactions in the framework of dimension-8 effective field theory operators are reported. Stringent limits on parameters of the effective field theory operators are obtained. The observed 95% confidence level limits for the S0, M0, and T0 operators are -2.7 < f(S0)/A(4) < 2.7, -1.0 < f(M0)/A(4) < 1.0, and -0.17 < f(T0)/A(4) < 0.16, in units of TeV-4. Constraints are also reported on the product of the cross section and branching fraction for vector boson fusion production of charged Higgs bosons as a function of mass from 600 to 2000 GeV. Energy performance assessment in terms of primary energy and exergy analyses of the nursing home and rehabilitation center
This paper concerns with the energy analysis (based on primary energy) and exergy analysis of Narlıdere Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center (NNHRC) in İzmir, Turkey that was chosen as a sample public building. The Center services as a nursing and rehabilitation center for the aged and it also includes a geriatric division operating as a hospital. The Center was analyzed using the actual energy consumption data derived from several energy audits. Energy efficiency (according to the primary energy ratio) and exergy efficiency of the facility were calculated to be 59% and 14%, respectively. The results have indicated that the exergy efficiencies of space heating and cooling have the lowest values compared with the other units of facility. Specific primary energy consumption and specific exergy consumption of the facility were found to be 271.91 kWh/m2 year and 290.23 kWh/m2 year, respectively. Sustainability index value of the overall NNHRC was found to be 1.621
Measurement of exclusive Υ photoproduction from protons in p Pb collisions at √sNN=5.02TeV
PubMed: 31007586The exclusive photoproduction of (nS) meson states from protons, (nS) p (with n = 1, 2, 3), is studied in ultraperipheral pPb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of The measurement is performed using the decay mode, with data collected by the CMS experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 32.6 nb(-1). Differential cross sections as functions of the nS) transverse momentum squared and rapidity y, are presented. The 1S) photoproduction cross section is extracted in the rapidity range < 2.2, which corresponds to photon-proton centre-of-mass energies in the range 91 W < 826 GeV. The data are compared to theoretical predictions based on perturbative quantum chromodynamics and to previous measurements
Rotary inertia and higher modes effect on the dynamic response of Timoshenko beams on two-parameter elastic foundation
This study investigates the effects of rotary inertia and higher modes on the dynamic response of the axially loaded Timoshenko beams on two-parameter foundation with generalized elastic end conditions. A simplified modal analysis procedure is presented by using the conventional separation of variables method. The effect of rotary inertia on the solution of free vibration differential equation is discussed. A numerical example is presented to investigate the coupled effect of rotary inertia and higher modes on the bending moment and shear force responses
