Search for vectorlike leptons in multilepton final states in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV
A search for vectorlike leptons in multilepton final states is presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 77.4 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2016 and 2017. Events are categorized by the multiplicity of electrons, muons, and hadronically decaying tau leptons. The missing transverse momentum and the scalar sum of the lepton transverse momenta are used to distinguish the signal from background. The observed results are consistent with the expectations from the standard model hypothesis. The existence of a vectorlike lepton doublet, coupling to the third-generation standard model leptons in the mass range of 120-790 GeV, is excluded at 95% confidence level. These are the most stringent limits yet on the production of a vectorlike lepton doublet, coupling to the third-generation standard model leptons
Evidence for light-by-light scattering and searches for axion-like particles in ultraperipheral PbPb collisions at √s(NN)=5.02 TeV
Evidence for the light-by-light scattering process, gamma gamma -> gamma gamma, in ultraperipheral PbPb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 5.02 TeV is reported. The analysis is conducted using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 390 mu b(-1) recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC. Light-by-light scattering processes are selected in events with two photons exclusively produced, each with transverse energy E-T(gamma) > 2 GeV, pseudorapidity vertical bar eta(gamma)vertical bar 5 GeV, diphoton transverse momentum p(T)(gamma gamma) gamma gamma) = 120 +/- 46(stat) +/- 28(syst) +/- 12(theo) nb, is consistent with the standard model prediction. The m(gamma gamma) distribution is used to set new exclusion limits on the production of pseudoscalar axion-like particles, via the gamma gamma -> a -> gamma gamma process, in the mass range m(a) = 5-90 GeV. Energy dissipation and performance assessment of double damped outriggers in tall buildings under strong earthquakes
The use of a single set of outriggers equipped with oil viscous dampers increases the damping ratio of tall buildings in about 6–10%, depending on the loading conditions. However, could this ratio be further increased by the addition of another set of outriggers? Should this additional set include dampers too? To answer these questions, several double damped outrigger configurations for tall buildings are investigated and compared with an optimally designed single damped outrigger, located at elevation 0.7 of the total building's height (h). Using free vibration, double outrigger configurations increasing damping up to a ratio equal to the single-based optimal are identified. Next, selected configurations are subjected to several levels of eight ground motions to compare their capability for avoiding damage under critical excitations. Last, a simplified economic analysis highlights the advantages of each optimal configuration in terms of cost savings. The results show that, within the boundaries of this study, combining a damped outrigger at 0.5h with a conventional outrigger at 0.7h is more effective in reducing hysteretic energy ratios and economically viable if compared with a single damped outrigger solution. Moreover, double damped outrigger configurations for tall buildings exhibit broader display of optimal combinations, which offer flexibility of design to the high-rise architecture. © 2018 The Authors. Temel mekanik değişkenleri izlemek için kilowatt altı verimli kapasif güç ve veri nakli
Thesis (Master)--Izmir Institute of Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Izmir, 2019Includes bibliographical references (leaves: 103-108)Text in English; Abstract: Turkish and EnglishThe main aim of this thesis is to design and prototype a sub-kilowatt, efficient capacitive data and power transfer (CPT) system that for example, monitors the loads on an axle of a vehicle. The data and power are transmitted wirelessly. In a separate case study, the power is provided for the weight measurement system by an E class power amplifier. In the industry, today, wireless power and data transfer methods have become quite popular. Some of those methods are inductive power transfer (IPT), capacitive power transfer, micro-wave power transfer (MCP). One of these techniques, which is the theme of this thesis, is the capacitive power and data transfer. The capacitive power system is quite compact and does not create electromagnetic interference (EMI), which is one of the strengths of the CPT. Hence, the stability of the embedded electronics system is preserved. Another attractive feature of CPT is that data and power can be transferred at the same frequency over a short distance. This thesis addresses the various facets of the CPT system. The historical development of the CPT technique has started with Nicola Tesla. Wireless power transfer methodology could safely be attributed to him. The system consists of two main parts which are the weight measurement system and power transmitting system. The power is transferred by the copper capacitive plates with 100 cm2 surface area. Average error of the measurement system is computed as 1.1% with high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Finally, the capacitive power and data transfer system has been designed with 83.8% efficiency at 1.7 MHz frequency and high SNR.Bu tezin asıl amacı, örneğin bir aracın aksındaki yükleri izleyen bir kilovat altında,

D0-Meson RAA in PbPb collisions at √sNN=5.02TeV and elliptic flow in pPb collisions at √sNN=8.16TeV with CMS
The study of charm production in heavy-ion collisions is considered an excellent probe for the properties of the hot and dense medium created in heavy-ion collisions. Measurements of D-0-meson nuclear modification factor can provide strong constraints into the mechanisms of in-medium energy loss and charm flow in the medium. The measurement of D-0-meson elliptic flow in pPb collisions helps us understand the strength of charm quarks coupling to significantly reduced systems which demonstrate hydrodynamic properties. In this paper, the measurements of the D-0-meson nuclear modification factor in PbPb collisions at 5.02 TeV together with the new measurement of D-0-meson elliptic flow in high multiplicity pPb collisions at 5.02 TeV using the two-particle correlation method will be presented

Genomewide elucidation of drug resistance mechanisms for systemically used antifungal drugs amphotericin B, caspofungin, and voriconazole in the budding yeast
PubMed: 31209012There are only a few antifungal drugs used systemically in treatment, and invasive fungal infections that are resistant to these drugs are an emerging problem in health care. In this study, we performed a high-copy-number genomic DNA (gDNA) library screening to find and characterize genes that reduce susceptibility to amphotericin B, caspofungin, and voriconazole in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. We identified the PDR16 and PMP3 genes for amphotericin B, the RMD9 and SWH1 genes for caspofungin, and the MRS3 and TRI1 genes for voriconazole. The deletion mutants for PDR16 and PMP3 were drug susceptible, but the other mutants had no apparent susceptibility. Quantitative-PCR analyses suggested that the corresponding drugs upregulated expression of the PDR16, PMP3, SWH1, and MRS3 genes. To further characterize these genes, we also profiled the global expression patterns of the cells after treatment with the antifungals and determined the genes and paths that were up-or downregulated. We also cloned Candida albicans homologs of the PDR16, PMP3, MRS3, and TRI1 genes and expressed them in S. cerevisiae. Heterologous expression of Candida homologs also provided reduced drug susceptibility to the budding yeast cells. Our analyses suggest the involvement of new genes in antifungal drug resistance
Probing the chiral magnetic wave in pPb and PbPb collisions at √sNN=5.02 TeV using charge-dependent azimuthal anisotropies
Charge-dependent anisotropy Fourier coefficients (v(n)) of particle azimuthal distributions are measured in pPb and PbPb collisions at root S-NN = 5.02 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. The normalized difference in the second-order anisotropy coefficients (v(2)) between positively and negatively charged particles is found to depend linearly on the observed event charge asymmetry with comparable slopes for both pPb and PbPb collisions over a wide range of charged particle multiplicity. In PbPb, the third-order anisotropy coefficient v(3) shows a similar linear dependence with the same slope as seen for v(2). The observed similarities between the v(2) slopes for pPb and PbPb, as well as the similar slopes for v(2) and v(3) in PbPb, are compatible with expectations based on local charge conservation in the decay of clusters or resonances, and constitute a challenge to the hypothesis that, at LHC energies, the observed charge asymmetry dependence of v(2) in heavy ion collisions arises from a chiral magnetic wave
Regression-based prediction for task-based program performance
As multicore systems evolve by increasing the number of parallel execution units, parallel programming models have been released to exploit parallelism in the applications. Task-based programming model uses task abstractions to specify parallel tasks and schedules tasks onto processors at runtime. In order to increase the efficiency and get the highest performance, it is required to identify which runtime configuration is needed and how processor cores must be shared among tasks. Exploring design space for all possible scheduling and runtime options, especially for large input data, becomes infeasible and requires statistical modeling. Regression-based modeling determines the effects of multiple factors on a response variable, and makes predictions based on statistical analysis. In this work, we propose a regression-based modeling approach to predict the task-based program performance for different scheduling parameters with variable data size. We execute a set of task-based programs by varying the runtime parameters, and conduct a systematic measurement for influencing factors on execution time. Our approach uses executions with different configurations for a set of input data, and derives different regression models to predict execution time for larger input data. Our results show that regression models provide accurate predictions for validation inputs with mean error rate as low as 6.3%, and 14% on average among four task-based programs
Design of siphonic rainwater drainage system
Today, conventional systems are commonly used for roof rainwater drainage. In recent years, the use of siphonic drainage systems has become widespread, based on the principle that the pipes are full flow. With the full flow principle in the siphonic system, pipe diameters are reduced compared to traditional (conventional) systems. Thanks to a number advantageous features, especially in industrial and office buildings, this system has started to be used more in widely. In this study, a design example of a siphonic rainwater drainage system was evaluated. The same system has traditionally been calculated and the results compared in terms of cost
