    Fragmentation of J/ψ in jets in pp collisions at √s=5.02TeV

    The fragmentation of jets containing a J/psi meson is studied in root s = 5.02 TeV pp data using an integrated luminosity of L = 27.39 pb(-1). The fraction of the jet transverse momentum p(Tjet) carried by the J/psi is measured for prompt J/psi and J/psi coming from b hadron decays, named nonprompt. Whereas the fragmentation function of nonprompt J/psi is well-modeled by simulations using a Monte Carlo generator, the prompt J/psi are found to be accompanied by a larger level of jet activity. The fraction of J/psi mesons that are produced inside a jet is also reported, and found to be larger in data than in simulation, for both prompt and nonprompt J/psi

    Quantum group symmetry for kaleidoscope of hydrodynamic images and quantum states

    32nd International Colloquium on Group Theoretical Methods in Physics (ICGTMP Group); JUL 09-13, 2018; Czech Tech Univ, Prague, Czech RepublicThe hydrodynamic flow in several bounded domains can be formulated by the image theorems, like the two circle, the wedge and the strip theorems, describing flow by q-periodic functions. Depending on geometry of the domain, parameter q has different geometrical meanings and values. In the special case of the wedge domain, with q as a primitive root of unity, the set of images appears as a regular polygon kaleidoscope. By interpreting the wave function in the Fock-Barman representation as complex potential of a flow, we find modn projection operators in the space of quantum coherent states, related with operator q-numbers. They determine the units of quantum information as kaleidoscope of quantum states with quantum group symmetry of the q-oscillator. Expansion of Glauber coherent states to these units and corresponding entropy are discussed

    Search for supersymmetry in proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV in final states with jets and missing transverse momentum

    Results are reported from a search for supersymmetric particles in the final state with multiple jets and large missing transverse momentum. The search uses a sample of proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 TeV collected with the CMS detector in 2016-2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb(-1), representing essentially the full LHC Run 2 data sample. The analysis is performed in a four-dimensional search region defined in terms of the number of jets, the number of tagged bottom quark jets, the scalar sum of jet transverse momenta, and the magnitude of the vector sum of jet transverse momenta. No significant excess in the event yield is observed relative to the expected background contributions from standard model processes. Limits on the pair production of gluinos and squarks are obtained in the framework of simplified models for supersymmetric particle production and decay processes. Assuming the lightest supersymmetric particle to be a neutralino, lower limits on the gluino mass as large as 2000 to 2310 GeV are obtained at 95% confidence level, while lower limits on the squark mass as large as 1190 to 1630 GeV are obtained, depending on the production scenario

    Search for the production of four top quarks in the single -lepton and opposite -sign dilepton final states in proton -proton collisions at √s=13 TeV

    A search for the standard model production of four top quarks (pp tttt) is reported using single-lepton plus jets and opposite-sign dilepton plus jets signatures. Proton-proton collisions are recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at a center-ofmass energy of 13 TeV in a sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.8 fb-1. A multivariate analysis exploiting global event and jet properties is used to discriminate tttt from tt production. No significant deviation is observed from the predicted background. An upper limit is set on the cross section for tttt production in the standard model of 48 fb at 95% confidence level. When combined with a previous measurement by the CMS experiment from an analysis of other final states, the observed signal significance is 1.4 standard deviations, and the combined cross section measurement is 13+911 fb. The result is also interpreted in the framework of effective field theory

    Search for resonant production of second-generation sleptons with same-sign dimuon events in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV

    PubMed: 31007588A search is presented for resonant production of second-generation sleptons ((mu) over tilde (L),(nu) over tilde (mu)) via the R-parityviolating coupling. gimel'(211) to quarks, in events with two samesign muons and at least two jets in the final state. The smuon ( muon sneutrino) is expected to decay into amuon and a neutralino (chargino), which will then decay into a second muon and at least two jets. The analysis is based on the 2016 data set of proton- proton collisions at root s = 13 TeV recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb(-1). No significant deviation is observed with respect to standard model expectations. Upper limits on cross sections, ranging from 0.24 to 730 fb, are derived in the context of two simplified models representing the dominant signal contributions leading to a same- sign muon pair. The cross section limits are translated into coupling limits for a modified constrained minimal supersymmetric model with. gimel'(211) as the only nonzero R-parity violating coupling. The results significantly extend restrictions of the parameter space compared with previous searches for similar models

    Effects of Notch signalling on the expression of SEMA3C, HMGA2, CXCL14, CXCR7, and CCL20 in breast cancer

    PubMed: 30930637Metastasis is the main reason for death in breast cancer. Understanding the molecular players in metastasis is crucial for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Notch signalling plays an oncogenic role in breast tumorigenesis and is involved in metastasis. Downstream mediators of Notch signalling in prometastatic processes are not yet fully discovered. Here we aimed to investigate whether Notch signalling regulates the expression of SEMA3C, HMGA2, CXCL14, CXCR7, and CCL20, which are involved in prometastatic processes, in breast cell lines. To this end, expression of the selected genes was analysed following Notch activation by overexpression of the Notch1 intracellular domain in the normal breast epithelial cell line MCF10A, and inhibition by silencing of the Notch transcriptional mediator RBPj kappa in the breast cancer cell line MDA MB 231. SEMA3C and HMGA2 mRNA were decreased, while CXCL14 and CXCR7 mRNA were increased significantly in response to Notch activation in MCF10A cells. Notch inhibition in MDA MB 231 cells significantly decreased HMGA2 and CCL20 mRNA. Protein levels were not significantly altered by Notch modulation. In conclusion, we showed that Notch signalling regulates expression of SEMA3C, CXCL14, CCL20, CXCR7, and HMGA2, which are prominent candidate genes that might function downstream of Notch to induce prometastatic processes

    Correlation of critical success factors with success of software projects: an empirical investigation

    Software engineering researchers have, over the years, proposed different critical success factors (CSFs) which are believed to be critically correlated with the success of software projects. To conduct an empirical investigation into the correlation of CSFs with success of software projects, we adapt and extend in this work an existing contingency fit model of CSFs. To archive the above objective, we designed an online survey and gathered CSF-related data for 101 software projects in the Turkish software industry. Among our findings is that the top three CSFs having the most significant associations with project success were: (1) team experience with the software development methodologies, (2) team's expertise with the task, and (3) project monitoring and controlling. A comprehensive correlation analysis between the CSFs and project success indicates positive associations between the majority of the factors and variables, however, in most of the cases at non-significant levels. By adding to the body of evidence in this field, the results of the study will be useful for a wide audience. Software managers can use the results to prioritize the improvement opportunities in their organizations w.r.t. the discussed CSFs. Software engineers might use the results to improve their skills in different dimensions, and researchers might use the results to prioritize and conduct follow-up in-depth studies on those factors

    Transcriptomics analysis of circular RNAs differentially expressed in apoptotic HeLa cells

    PubMed: 30918512Apoptosis is a form of regulated cell death that plays a critical role in survival and developmental homeostasis. There are numerous reports on regulation of apoptosis by protein-coding genes as well as small non-coding RNAs, such as microRNAs. However, there is no comprehensive investigation of circular RNAs (circRNA) that are differentially expressed under apoptotic conditions. We have performed a transcriptomics study in which we first triggered apoptosis in HeLa cells through treatment with four different agents, namely cisplatin, doxorubicin, TNF-alpha and anti-Fas mAb. Total RNAs isolated from control as well as treated cells were treated with RNAse R to eliminate the linear RNAs. The remaining RNAs were then subjected to deep-sequencing to identify differentially expressed circRNAs. Interestingly, some of the dys-regulated circRNAs were found to originate from protein-coding genes well-documented to regulate apoptosis. A number of candidate circRNAs were validated with qPCR with or without RNAse R treatment as well. We then took advantage of bioinformatics tools to investigate the coding potential of differentially expressed RNAs. Additionally, we examined the candidate circRNAs for the putative miRNA-binding sites and their putative target mRNAs. Our analyses point to a potential for circRNA-mediated sponging of miRNAs known to regulate apoptosis. In conclusion, this is the first transcriptomics study that provides a complete circRNA profile of apoptotic cells that might shed light onto the potential role of circRNAs in apoptosis

Another major health concern is the metastasis of cancer in which cancer cells spread to new areas of the body, often by way of the lymph system or bloodstream. To minimize the burden on health and economy, the detection of biomicroparticles such as pathogens or circulating cancer cells in a highly sensitive and practical manner is higly desirable. This thesis aims to develop a method to create graphene-based biosensor substrate for detection of biomicroparticles such as bacteria, viruses or mammalian cells. For this aim, graphene surface was first functionalized using a linker molecule. The effect of solvent type on functionalization was investigated via Raman spectroscopy and X-Ray spectroscopy (XPS). AntiCD2 antibodies (Ab), as a model antibody, were then conjugated to the functionalized graphene via NHS/EDC chemistry. The Ab conjugation was verified by Raman spectroscopy and XPS analyses. Finally, Jurkat cells, as model biomicroparticles, were recognized and captured by Abconjugated graphene surface, as evidenced by optical microscopy. The temperature, medium, and method for interaction of cells with graphene surfaces as well as the specificity of the Ab- functionalized graphene surface were investigated. The results overall showed the specific and efficient recognition of model cell line by Abconjugated graphene surfaces.Tükettiğimiz yiyeceklerde ve içtiğimiz sularda bulunan patojenler insan sağlığı için büyük bir tehdit oluşturmaktadır. Bir diğer önemli sağlık sorunu, kanser hücrelerinin genellikle lenf sistemi veya kan dolaşımı yoluyla vücudun yeni bölgelerine yayıldığı kanser metastazıdır. Sağlık ve ekonomi üzerindeki yükü en aza indirmek için, patojenler veya dolaşımdaki kanser hücreleri gibi biyomikropartiküllerin oldukça hassas ve pratik bir şekilde saptanması talep edilen bir durumdur. Bu tez, bakteri, virüs veya memeli hücresi gibi biyomikropartiküllerin tespiti için grafen esaslı biyosensör substratı oluşturmak için bir yöntem geliştirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu amaçla grafen yüzey ilk olarak bir bağlayıcı ara molekül kullanılarak fonksiyonelleştirildi. Çözücü tipinin grafen yüzey fonksiyonelleştirilmesi üzerindeki etkisi Raman spektroskopisi ve X-Ray spektroskopisi (XPS) ile araştırıldı. Daha sonra bir model antikor olarak AntiCD2 antikorları (Ab), NHS / EDC kimyası yoluyla fonksiyonelleştirilmiş grafen yüzeye konjüge edildi. Ab konjugasyonu Raman spektroskopisi ve XPS analizleriyle tespit edilmiştir. Son olarak, model biyomikropartiküller olarak kullanılan Jurkat hücreleri, Ab ile konjuge grafen yüzeyi tarafından tanındı ve hücre-yüzey etkileşimi optik mikroskopi ile kanıtlandı. Hücrelerin grafen yüzeyleri ile etkileşimi için sıcaklık, ortam ve yöntem ile Abfonksiyonel grafen yüzeyinin özgüllüğü araştırıldı.     Search for low mass vector resonances decaying into quark-antiquark pairs in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 Tev

    A search for low mass narrow vector resonances decaying into quark-antiquark pairs is presented. The analysis is based on data collected in 2017 with the CMS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 41.1 fb(-1). The results of this analysis are combined with those of an earlier analysis based on data collected at the same collision energy in 2016, corresponding to 35.9 fb(-1). Signal candidates will be recoiling against initial state radiation and are identified as energetic, large-radius jets with two pronged substructure. The invariant jet mass spectrum is probed for a potential narrow peaking signal over a smoothly falling background. No evidence for such resonances is observed within the mass range of 50-450 GeV. Upper limits at the 95% confidence level are set on the coupling of narrow resonances to quarks, as a function of the resonance mass. For masses between 50 and 300 GeV these are the most sensitive limits to date. This analysis extends the earlier search to a mass range of 300-450 GeV, which is probed for the first time with jet substructure techniques
