Social Media Education: Industry Leader Recommendations for Curriculum and Faculty Competencies
No full textSocial media have affected daily activities, communication practices, and business practices throughout society. Social media are more frequently embraced in higher education as well. One indication of this growth is the fact that more than half of all teaching faculty use social media at least monthly for professional reasons, with professors in professions and applied sciences being at the forefront of the use. Interviews with more than 20 industry professionals representing nonprofits, corporations, and subject matter experts provide insights into key considerations for social media education. Thirty-Year Experiment in Teaching Spiritual Formation: Twelve Lessons We Learned

This article explores insights gained from a novel experiment in theological education where spiritual formation played a central role in shaping all aspects of a seminary’s structures and curriculum. Seminary of the East offered a unique glimpse into how an institution’s vision for spiritual formation can determine all dynamics including campus infrastructure, enrollment goals, faculty rank, in order to better support spiritual formation. Practitioners and administrators can gain insights from the lessons learned by a small seminary’s continually improving efforts at modeling and teaching spiritual formation
Cancer Rehabilitation: Impact of Physical Activity on Initial Clinical Assessments
No full textBackground: Preconditioning and prehabilitation have been reported to ameliorate a host of health- and cancer-related issues, yet few studies have examined implications of past physical activity (PA) on physiological and psychological parameters in cancer survivors. Implications of prior PA on physiological and psychosocial variables in cancer survivors were acquired during an initial assessment prior to participation in a cancer rehabilitation program.
Methods: Cardiorespiratory fitness (VO2peak), fatigue (Piper Fatigue Scale, PFS), and depression (Beck Depression Inventory, BDI) were measured (N = 807; 67 ± 13 years). PA groups were divided by self-reported prior PA history (Group 1 = none; Group 2 \u3c 150 min/week; Group 3 ≥ 150 min/week).
Results: Significant (P \u3c 0.05) main effects for PA were observed among all variables except the PFS affective subscale. Groups 1 and 3 were significantly (P \u3c 0.05) different for BDI. Groups 1 and 3 were significantly (P \u3c 0.05) different for the total, sensory, and cognitive subscales of the PFS. Finally, Groups 1 and 3, and Groups 2 and 3 differed significantly (P \u3c 0.05) for the behavioral, sensory, and cognitive subscales of the PFS.
Conclusion: Cancer survivors with prior PA levels ≥ 150 min/week performed better on measures of VO2peak, were significantly less fatigued and depressed at initial assessment
