    IL MOTO FANTASTICO-PERCETTIVO SECONDO ARISTOTELE

    Get PDF
In this essay I will propose an analysis of Aristotle’s concept of kinesis aisthetike/phantastike. I have collected many short pieces of evidence that can be detected in Aristotle’s psychological corpus about this topic, in order to understand if Aristotle, when he speaks about kinesis, has in mind a coherent theory. My conclusion is that he had such a theory (although never clearly expounded by Aristotle himself) that can be expounded in a systematic way, which is what I try to do in the last section of the paper

ANTONIO GENOVESI: UNA RILETTURA ILLUMINISTA DELLE VIRTÙ COMPAGNE DELLA SAGGEZZA (PRUDENTIA/PHRONESIS)

    Get PDF
The Neapolitan philosopher Antonio Genovesi (1713-1769) offers an Enlightenment re-reading of the doctrine of prudentia (wisdom) and its connected virtues. In this way he retrieves an Aristotelian-Stoic conception and sets it in a new historical, political and philosophical context. Therefore it becomes an attribute of a late-eighteenth-century man of government, who is able to put into practice his knowledge, with a view to achieving his own happiness and that of the citizens of his state

LEXICA MALVAGIA ET PERNICIOSA. THE CASE OF ESTIENNE'S THESAURUS GRAECAE LINGUAE

    Get PDF
The paper aims to investigate – on the basis of materials preserved in the Archive of the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith – the censorship case of Henri Estienne’s Thesaurus Graecae linguae, printed in Geneva in 1572 and forbidden in 1596 with the formula donec corrigatur. Since 1559 other diffused and esteemed Greeks and Latin dictionaries were put on the Index librorum prohibitorum, e.g. the Latinae linguae thesaurus of Robert Estienne and the Lexicon Graeco-Latinum of Jean Crespin, and the Catholics were kept from possessing and reading them. The paper will analyse the principal arguments for the ban and the proposed amendments in order to revise Estienne’s lexicon, and beyond that explore the general impact of the censorship proceedings against the ‘dangerous’ lexicography both on the book production and on the development of philological studies in the Catholic area

TESTIMONIANZE SU ANASSAGORA E ALTRI PRESOCRATICI NEL LIBRO IV DELLA RETORICA DI FILODEMO. Praesocratica Herculanensia V

In book 4 of Philodemus’ On Rhetoric, there are several testimonia to some of the most important Presocratic philosophers. They are not preserved in the central parts (midolli) of the rolls in which the book is transmitted (PHerc. 1423 and PHerc. 1673/1007, containing respectively the first tome and the entire book), but only in scorze, viz. the outermost parts of the rolls. In these passages, which involve more or less directly Anaxagoras, the Milesians, the Eleatics, the Atomists, and the Pythagoreans, we find both biographical and properly doxographical pieces of information. The biographical evidence is mainly connected to Philodemus’ argument concerning rhetoric and has often a polemical character. As for the doxographical evidence, it ranges from physical and cosmological problems to ontological and epistemological ones. For all these testimonia, this paper provides a critical edition together with a translation and a wide-ranging commentary

APPERCEPTION, APPERCEVOIR, S' APPERCEVOIR DE. EVOLUTION D'UN TERME ET D'UNE FONCTION COGNITIVE

Apperception is undoubtedly one of the most important terms in Leibniz’s Monadology, both for its neological nature and its central role in the epistemological and psychological Leibnizian thought. I will discuss the reflections made by Leibniz in the Nouveaux Essais on the subject and its cognitive faculties. I will thus concentrate on the French translation of the Lockean Essay concerning Humane Understanding, which led up to the creation of apperception, as substantive, in the context of the 17th and 18th centuries philosophy
