A study about recycling into the nature and the rehabilitation of open mines through "murgul" sample case
The rehabilitation for the distorted, destrueted areas as a result of industrial usage through natural restoration and the increase of the biologic production capability to increase the inherent landscape quality necessitate that environmental problems like air, water, soil, noise and visual pollution, occurred again as a result of the distortion of natural landscape and the economic and social conditions of the close community be improved. In the scope of this study, the rehabilitation of the mining areas where the mining activity is completed and the restoration to its original landscape have been evaluated within researccd in the case of "Murgul Bakir Madeni" project. With this study, heavy metal pollution appeared as a result of mining activities of Murgul Copper Operation, in direction of surface flow in route of waste water discharged and in order to identify heavy metal pollution soil and plant samples will be taken from 0-20 cm depth of 3 different locations in every point. In order to determine heavy metal pollution, indications of Mg, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb elements has be done in ICP-OES tool of Artv in Coruh University Science-Technology Application and Research Center. The importance of plant species in the recovery process of a damaged area due to mining activities are great. Selection of appropriate plant species will increase the success of the repair work done
Synthesis and antimicrobial, antiproliferative evaluation of novel quinolone and conazole analogues via conventional and microwave techniques
1,2,4-Triazole-3-one (3), acquired from cinnamaldehyde was converted to the corresponding carbox(thio)amides via several steps (6 a–c). Their reaction with sodium hydroxide gave the 1,2,4-triazole derivatives (7 a–c). Compound 3 treatment with 2-bromo-1-(4-chlorophenyl) ethanone or 2-chloro-1-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)ethanone afforded the compounds 8 a,b and by reducing these compounds reduction products were obtained (9 a,b). The synthesis of (10 a–e) was carried out by the reaction compounds 9 a,b with different benzyl chlorides. Then oxadiazole derivative (12) was obtained by ring closure from hydrazide compound 5. Subsequently compounds 3, 7 a–c, and 12 were treated with various amines in the presence of formaldehyde to yield Mannich bases (11 a–e, 14 a–e, 13 a,b). Microwave-assisted and conventional techniques were utilized for the syntheses. The structures of newly synthesized compounds were illuminated by spectroscopic methods. Their antimicrobial (MIC method), and anticancer activities (Abay's method) were examined. Results showed that most of the compounds exhibited good antimicrobial activities. Especially compounds 14 a–e which is a mannich base showed very good antitubercular activity against Mycobacterium smegmatis compared with Streptomycin standard drug. Also compounds 8 a and 9 b have been found to have strong antiproliferative effects on the HeLa cervical cancer cells and also these compounds did not have a cytotoxic effects on a normal cells
Attitude toward Computers and Critical Thinking of Postgraduate Students as Predictors of Research Self-Efficacy
The purpose of this study was to examine to what extent the attitude toward computers and disposition to critical thinking of postgraduate students in the field of educational sciences predicted their research self-efficacy and to investigate the difference in these variables on the basis of students’ postgraduate education levels. Participants were 197 postgraduate students in the field of educational sciences in eight different public universities in Turkey: 105 (53.3%) doctoral students, 92 (46.7%) master’s students. The results revealed a significant positive attitude between research self-efficacy and critical thinking. The results also showed that attitude toward computers and critical thinking accounted for 3% of total research self-efficacy variation; and that of these two variables, critical thinking made a significant contribution to the model. Based on ongoing levels of education, there was a significant difference between the research self-efficacies of master’s and doctoral students. The source of this variation was attributed to doctoral students’ research self-efficacy scores being significantly higher than those of master’s students. Additionally, results showed a significant difference between attitudes toward computers of master’s and doctoral students
The effect of mobile phone on the finger muscles in sedentary and athletes
This study aims to investigate the effect of the fifth finger between adduction and abduction muscle strength according to the way athletes and sedentary mobile phones hold. 154 participants were included in the study. The participants were asked whether they were using mobile phones with one hand or both hands. The manual muscle test was performed by the physiotherapist. The statistical analysis of the data obtained was made with the SPSS 19.0 package program. A statistically significant difference was found between the abduction force of the fifth finger on the dominant side of the athlete and sedentary participants holding a mobile phone with one hand (p0.05). When using sedentary mobile phones with one hand, the abduction force of the fifth finger was found to be higher than the athletes. Due to the exercise programs of athletes, strong similarities can be accepted bilaterally. However, the use of mobile phones with one hand as a result of mobile phones reveals the power difference. Sedentary people should turn to use phones with two hands. Besides, it is thought that they can eliminate force imbalance by doing bilateral exercises
Evaluation of quercetin as a potential β-lactamase CTX-M-15 inhibitor via the molecular docking, dynamics simulations, and MMGBSA
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) threatens millions of people around the world and has been declared a global risk by the
World Economic Forum. One of the important AMR mechanisms in Enterobacteriaceae is the production of extended-spectrum
β-lactamases. The most common ESBL, CTX-M β-lactamases, is spread to the world by CTX-M-15 and CTX-M-14. Sulbactam, clavulanic acid, and tazobactam are first-generation β-lactamase inhibitors and avibactam is a new non-β-lactam β-lactamase inhibitor. We
studied that avibactam, sulbactam, clavulanic acid, tazobactam, and quercetin natural flavonoids were docked to target protein CTXM-15. Subsequently, the complexes were simulated using the molecular dynamics simulations method during 100 ns for determining
the final binding positions of ligands. Clavulanic acid left CTX-M-15 and other ligands remained in the binding site after the simulation. The estimated binding energies were calculated during 100 ns simulation by the MMGBSA-MMPBSA method. The estimated free
binding energies of avibactam, sulbactam, quercetin, tazobactam, and clavulanic acid were sorted as –33.61 kcal/mol, –16.04 kcal/mol,
–14 kcal/mol, –12.68 kcal/mol, and –2.95 kcal/mol. As a result of both final binding positions and free binding energy calculations,
Quercetin may be evaluated an alternative candidate and a more potent β-lactamases inhibitor for new antimicrobial combinations to
CTX-M-15. The results obtained in silico studies are predicted to be a preliminary study for in vitro studies for quercetin and similar
bioactive natural compounds. These studies are notable for the discovery of natural compounds that can be used in the treatment of
infections caused by β-lactamase-producing pathogens
Carbon stock estimation by dual-polarized synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and forest inventory data in a Mediterranean forest landscape
Forest ecosystems play a crucial role in mitigating global climate change by forming massive carbon sinks. Their carbon stocks and stock changes need to be quantified for carbon budget balancing and international reporting schemes. However, direct sampling and biomass weighing may not always be possible for quantification studies conducted in large forests. In these cases, indirect methods that use forest inventory information combined with remote sensing data can be beneficial. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images offer numerous opportunities to researchers as freely distributed remote sensing data. This study aims to estimate the amount of total carbon stock (TCS) in forested lands of the Kizildag Forest Enterprise. To this end, the actual storage capacities of five carbon pools, i.e. above- and below-ground, deadwood, litter, and soil, were calculated using the indirect method based on ground measurements of 264 forest inventory plots. They were then associated with the backscattered values from Sentinel-1 and ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 data in a Geographical Information System (GIS). Finally, TCS was separately modelled and mapped. The best regression model was developed using the HH polarization of ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 with an adjusted R2 of 0.78 (p < 0.05). According to the model, the estimated TCS was about 2 Mt for the entire forest, with an average carbon storage of 133 t ha−1. The map showed that the distribution of TCS was heterogenic across the study area. Carbon hotspots were mostly composed of pure stands of Anatolian black pine and mixed, over-mature stands of Lebanese cedar and Taurus fir. It was concluded that the total carbon stocks of forest ecosystems could be estimated using appropriate SAR images at acceptable accuracy levels for forestry purposes. The use of additional ancillary data may provide more delicate and reliable estimations in the future. Given the implications of this study, the spatiotemporal dynamics of carbon can be effectively controlled by forest management when coupled with easily accessible space-borne radar data
Is emotional intelligence correlated with values among primary schoolers?
The present study sought to develop a scale to measure the values adoption of primary school children and explore whether
emotional intelligence of primary school children is associated with values which are taught through curricular activities. First,
the Value Adoption Scale (VAS) was developed in Study 1 by conducting exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory
factor analysis (CFA) and correlation was examined in Study 2. Data were collected using the Ten Years Emotional Intelligence
Scale (TYEIS) and the Value Scale consisting of eight items. Data were analyzed with Pearson correlation coefficient and
regression analysis. Results of data analysis indicated that there was a moderate correlation between emotional intelligence
and values, but regression analysis revealed that emotional intelligence had weak predictive power for values adoption. It
was concluded that teaching values through curricular activities is not useful to foster emotional intelligence among primary
school children. Results of the research are discussed and addressed along with the relevant literature
Determination of antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of sweetgum (Liquidambar orientalis) leaf, a medicinal plant
In the study, sweetgum tree (Liquidambar orientalis), which is an endemic species that grows in Mugla, Koycegiz and is applied for medicinal purposes among the public, its leaves was examined. The antioxidant ability of the extract obtained from dried plant leaves has been evaluated using a variety of methods which are Total Phenolic Substance, Total Flavonoid, FRAP, CUPRAC, DPPH, and ABTS(+). Simultaneously, the antimicrobial activity of the plant extract was examined using disk diffusion and microdilution methods to determine the minimum inhibitor concentration (MIC). While the total phenolic content of Liquidambar orientalis extract was 96.34 mg GAE/g, the total amount of flavonoid was 2.15 mg QE/g. When the results of the antioxidant analysis were examined, it was observed that it had a good level of antioxidant activity with the results of 49.25 +/- 0.54 mmol TEAC/g according to the CUPRAC method, 39.83 +/- 0.25 mu mol Fe/g according to the FRAP method, 80.34 mu g/mL according to the DPPH method and 51.20 mu g/mL according to the ABTS(+) method. As a result of the antimicrobial analysis, it was indicated that L. orientalis extract was more effective on Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), which is a gram-positive bacterium and causes a wide variety of clinical diseases. Even, L. orientalis extract with an MIC value of 10 mg/mL has been found to have a higher antibacterial effect than Amoxicillin+Clavulanic acid, which is used as a standard drug in that field. This research is significant because it is the first to report the determination of all biological activities for L. orientalis, including total polyphenols, flavonoid contents, antioxidant content, and antimicrobial activity
The significance of the furniture and other manufactured goods sector in Turkish economy
Bir ülkede genel ekonomik yapıyı ve bu yapıyı oluşturan tüm sektörlerin birbirleriyle olan ilişkilerini
analitik olarak ortaya çıkarmak için girdi-çıktı çözümlemelerinden yararlanılmaktadır. Bu çalışma ile
girdi-çıktı çözümlemesi yardımıyla 2012 yılı itibariyle Türkiye ekonomisini oluşturan 64 sektörden biri
olan mobilya ve diğer mamul eşyalar sektörünün; üretim, katma değer, ihracat, ithalat ve diğer
sektörlerle olan ilişkilerini ortaya çıkarmak ve böylece bahse konu sektörün ülke ekonomisi içerisindeki
önemini belirlemek amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma neticesinde, mobilya ve diğer mamul eşyalar
sektörünün; Türkiye ekonomisini oluşturan 64 sektör içinde üretim yönü ile 20., katma değer yönüyle
47., ithalatta 17. ve ihracatta da 13. sırada yer aldığı ve ihracatının ithalatı karşılama oranının ülke
ekonomisi ortalamasının çok üzerinde olduğu görülmüştür. Bunlara ek olarak, Türkiye ekonomisini
oluşturan sektörlerin ileri ve geri bağlantı oranı ortalamasına (0.44) göre, mobilya ve diğer mamul
eşyalar sektörünün ileri (0.11) ve geri bağlantı (0.38) oranlarının düşük olduğu sonucuna da
ulaşılmıştır.Input-output analysis is used to analytically expose the general economic structure in a country and the
relations with each other of all sectors constituting this structure. The objective of the present study is
to identify the relationships of the Furniture and other manufactured goods sector, which is one of the
64 sectors as of 2012 forming the Turkish economy, with manufacturing, value added, exports, imports
and other industries and thus to determine the significance of the mentioned sector in the national
economy. As a result of the research has been observed production of Furniture and other
manufactured goods sector is ranked 20th in the production of 64 sectors constituting Turkey
production and the value-added of this sector is ranked 47th in the value-added of 64 sectors. According
to the results of the survey, the ratio of the exports to imports in this sector, which ranks 17th in imports
and 13th in exports in the 64 sector economy, is much higher than the average of the country's
economy. Determined in addition to these, according to the average of forward and backward links
ratio (0.44) of the sectors that constitute the country's economy, the furniture and other manufactured
goods sector's forward (0.11) and backward (0.38) links ratio are low
Extraction of road lane markings from mobile LiDAR data
This study presents a method for automatic extraction of road lane markings from mobile light detection and ranging
(LiDAR) data. Road lanes and traffic signs on the road surface provide safe driving for drivers and aid traffic flow movement
along the highway and street. Mobile LiDAR systems acquire massive datasets very quickly in a short time. To simplify the
data structure and feature extraction, it is essential for traffic management personnel to apply the right methods. Road lanes
must be visible and are a major factor in road safety for drivers. In this study, a methodology is devised and implemented for
the extraction of features such as dashed lines, continuous lanes, and direction arrows on the pavement from point clouds.
Point cloud data was collected from the Riegl VMX-450 mobile LiDAR system. The alpha shape algorithm is implemented on
a point cloud and compared with the widespread use of edge detection techniques applied for intensity-based raster images.
The proposed methodology directly extracts three-dimensional and two-dimensional road features to control the quality of
road markings and spatial positions with the obtained marking boundaries. State-of-the-art results are obtained and compared with manually digitized reference markings. The standard deviations were evaluated and acquired for intensity imagebased and direct point cloud-based extractions, at 1.2 cm and 1.7 cm, respectivel
