James A. Colston, 1947-1949
No full textJames A. Colston served as the fourth president of Georgia State College from 1947 to 1949. During his term the college became accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The college’s land-grant status was transferred to Fort Valley State College.
During the administration of President James A. Colston, the faculty was strengthened and improvements were made in the physical plant. Among the programs that were launched at that time were the Alumni Scholarship Drive, Campus Chest, Annual Men’s Day, Religious Emphasis Week, Freshman Week, and the Cultural Artists Series. Expanded programs of student personnel services and public relations, a reading clinic, and an audio-visual aids laboratory were instituted.Hall, C. W. (1991).
