This paper outlines how global warming has changed haiku season words by analyzing the effects of climate, geography and geology on the writing of haiku poetry. The specific problem under study is to measure the effects of global warming on the topics that haiku poets write about. The changes are significant enough that UNESCO could consider safeguarding haiku as an intangible world cultural heritage.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

Different uses of "Ji…Ye…'' and ''Ji…You…" in parallel expression

    Get PDF
application/pdf論文(Article)This research is about the use of "Ji...Ye..." and "Ji...You..." in parallel expressions, especially their functional meaning and for the use of the conditional. Based on the investigation of these two language marks, I make forecasts on how to use them when learning Chinese as a second language. As a result of the analysis, I came to the following conclusions: When "Er" is put in front of "You", the antecedent contradicts with the consequent, while the interrogative words are preposed, so "Ji...Ye..." should not be used. In the care of part parallel or choose parallel, the subject of the antecedent and consequent are different while they are cumulative in relation, containing the meaning of modality of forbid, so "Ji...You..." should be used in limited conditions. Both "Ji...You..." and "Ji...Ye..." could be used in language environments such as expressing the potential meaning, "V+Le" model to show the change result, to express the judgment meaning, and to express ownership or existence.departmental bulletin pape

Visualizing "old age" and the "deth of the first person" : rereading Simone de Beauvoir's Old Age

The road from "old age" to "death" is one that nearly all of us must travel. Youth is a privileged period of time when one can disregard old age and the death of the first person. The young look toward a time in the future, while the old look back at the past. Recently, Beauvoir's Old Age has been republished as a special Japanese translation, almost 40 years after its original publication. Old Age is a book that is rich in research on "old age" that is both diachronic and synchronic. It presents a panoramic view of "old age" through Beauvoir's knowledge of ethnic studies, literature, social studies, and cultural anthropology. Loneliness and anxiety, which come with old age, causes an individual to pose an existential question about human existence causing them to further denounce different conditions of "old age" that depend on an individual's circumstances, such as class. The glorification of youth in modern society can be interpreted as covering up "old age" and can even overshadow the death of the first person. The social preoccupation with youth makes the reexamination of "old age" all the more valuable. This study will also examine tales of elderly abandonment (kiro monogatari) through the examination of "old age."論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

The measurement of inhabitants' image of the village : the case of Hanao district in Kagoshima City

application/pdf論文(Article)This study was conducted in corporation with the prefectural bureau for rural development in order to identify the image of a rural district, Hanao-machi, where about 415 families lived in Kagoshima prefecture of Japan. 305 questionnaires were gathered from a wide variety of residents in age, jobs and hamlets, and the results were analyzed by ANOVA, primary factor analysis and cluster analysis and multiple regression analysis. The result of the analysis indicates that there can be separated three groups that have different images to the village. The quantification analysis suggests that the differences of villagers’ image can be partially explained by age, especially the difference between children and adults is remarkable. The group of middle aged, 20-50 year-old person has the worst image of the village, reflecting that they tend to feel inconvenience and stagnant atmosphere in managing their works and families’ lives. the analysis also shows that the degree or the strength of favor or love for village can be measured by the factors that constitute the image of village. The preference as to the direction for the village’s development is dependent on the personal preference on outgoingness and association with neighbors.departmental bulletin pape

A genealogy of studies of Kirō (I) : a folkloric and literary approach

    Get PDF
In this study, we consider the existing research on kirō (the practice of casting the elderly off into the wilderness) from four fields: folklore, legal philosophy, literature, and film. Of these, this study deals mainly with the literary approach, but it also includes the study of folklore to provide a contradicting perspective. Although, in literary works, writers have based their stories on the assumption that kirō was an actually existing custom, in the study of folklore it is widely held that the custom of kirō never actually existed. For example, due to ryōbosei (a custom of building separate burial grounds for umebaka, graves for burial, and mairibaka, memorial graves for visitation), skeletal remains can be found on beaches and in caves that constitute umebaka. As a result, the custom of kirō is regarded as having really taken place; however, this is not the case. In the postwar literature, authors such as Shichiro Fukazawa, Kiyoko Murata, and Yuya Sato have produced works on the theme of kirō, delving into issues of human existence such as old age and death. This study forms the first half of a genealogy of kirō studies.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape
