Plantas medicinales silvestres y/o naturalizadas en la península de Araya, estado Sucre, Venezuela | wild and/or naturalized medicinal plants in the Araya peninsula of Sucre state, Venezuela
ABSTRACT Currently, the accelerated processes of transculturation and the eminent deterioration of ecosystems are jeopardizing the biodiversity that has contributed to the welfare of the inhabitants of the planet, whether by providing food, medicine or craft. For this reason, the present study attempts to expand the ethnobotanical knowledge within 21 coastal communities of the Araya peninsula in Sucre state, Venezuela. To gather this information, non-structured interviews were conducted on older adults and key-informants who maintain an ongoing relationship with the plants of their local environment. These interviews were held during field trips made between 2010 and 2016. A total of 24 families, 47 genera and 52 species (50 dicots and 2 monocots) of plants with some degree of utility were identified. Among them, 46 species are wild and 6 were introduced and now naturalized. A total of 26 new products of the medicinal flora from the peninsula is reported. Construcción de la idea de sí mismo y del otro desde el pensamiento integracionista del yo soy cuerpo | Construction of the self and the other from an integrationist thought process of I am the body
ABSTRACT In relation to the idea of body, represented in what is known as modernity, the idea of oneself and the others is seen under a fragmented perception, as a result of a historical transformation where the body is seen as a distant object in its own humanity; and with it, everything that is refered to a sensitive world. In the context of this crisis of thoughts and interpretations, it emerges a complex vision and builds up the idea of oneself and the others, where the body is recognized on the basis of its human condition and everything that is showed in the subjectivity world. This essay is a result of a thoughtful exercise and critical analysis, searching answers which recognize an episteme that, from a complex vision of the human being, from corporal, allows remeaning the education, based on the idea which emerges from the vision of I am body.
ABSTRACTThis paper examines the problem of knowledge from the relationship between the knowing subject and the object, assuming that there exists an objective and structured reality. It is also based on the supposition that the knowing subject creates a symbolic representation of that reality. Furthermore, it incorporates the social context in the genesis and development of knowledge. Methodologically, it was started from bibliographic documents and their analysis and synthesis. It is concluded that knowledge is an unfinished symbolic process that is always under construction.Key words: theory of knowledge, epistemology, reality, sociology of knowledge, knowing subject
Zooplancton de la Bahía de Mochima: Retrospectiva y prospectiva | Zooplancton of the Mochima Bay: Retrospective and prospective
ABSTRACT This compilation presents a historical synthesis of the studies carried out (publications, thesis, monogrphs) on the zooplankton in the Bay of Mochima, Sucre State, Venezuela. The Plankton Laboratory of the Institute of Zoology and Tropical Ecology (IZET) and the Zooplankton Laboratory of the Venezuelan Oceanographic Institute (IOV) have carried out numerous studies of the zooplankton community, in which they emphasize taxonomic and ecological aspects including the effects of upwelling events. Among these, the level of information is very uneven. A list of zooplankton composition and richness is presented. The holoplankton components include jellyfish (19 species), siphonophores (5 species), copepods (75 species), cladocerans (4 species), chaetognatha (3 species), holoplanktonic mollusks (2 species), mysidacea (2 species), appendicularians (16 species). Within the meroplankton are larvae of decapod crustaceans, cirripedes and ichthyoplankton. In general, copepods were the most abundant group, with differences in upwelling events and represented the highest proportion of biomass. Temporal and spatial biomass fluctuations, zooplankton abundance and related physical and chemical variables were analyzed. However, the variables needed to estimate production, such as annual cycles and trophic relationships, have been poorly studied. Depending on the lack of information, the main problems were identified and recommendations for future research are proposed.
Palabras claves: Biodiversidad, crustáceos, Anomura, parques nacionales, VenezuelaABSTRACT: A total of 517 species of decapod crustaceans have been reported from marine and brackish waters of Venezuela. The Los Roques Archipelago is one of the locations where there is a more complete inventory of the group, with at least 231 species. However, the family Porcellanidae is one of the families that has received less attention, with only six species identified before this study. As part of a macro project called Coral Reef Biodiversity in the Archipelago Los Roques National Park (PNALR), non-periodical samples were taken in order to increase our knowledge of the crustacean decapods taxocenosis in this region. Nine species of porcellanid crabs were obtained, of which six represent first records for the archipelago: Megalobrachium poeyi, Pachycheles monilifer, P. pilosus, P. riseii, Petrolisthes jugosus and P. quadratus. Pachycheles ackleianus, Petrolisthes marginatus and P. politus, previously recorded at Los Roques, were not located in this study. These findings increase to 12 the number of species of porcellanids crabs reported for PNALR, 1/3 of the total known for the country.Key words: Biodiversity, crustaceans, Anomura, national parks, Venezuela
POLYCHAETES IN BRAZIL: PEOPLE AND PLACES, PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE
Abstract: This review assesses the current knowledge of polychaetes from Brazil, focusing on its historical development, known diversity, available human resources and collections. Despite advances made over the last few decades, the diversity of polychaetes in Brazil remains poorly known, since most of the eight marine ecoregions in the country are not properly sampled. About 1,400 species of polychaetes are known from Brazilian waters, corresponding to 10 % of the valid species worldwide. Taxonomic training has increased, but the distribution of researchers along the extensive coast remains uneven, with stronger representation in the southeastern region. Current research shortcomings and suggestions to increase taxonomic training and knowledge of polychaetes in the country are presented and discussed

En cuanto a la riqueza por regiones; la región nororiental (89 %), es la más diversa seguida por la centro-occidental (7 %), mientras que y finalmente la costa del Atlántico venezolano y de las dependencias federales La Tortuga, isla de Aves y el Archipiélago Los Roques, apenas aportan el 4 % de este conocimiento.ABSTRACT: Polychaete studies in Venezuela are relatively scarce, the first record was made in 1863, but it´s from 1975 when the scientific production of the group began that has allowed to recognize 534 species to date, that knowledge has increased by more than 40% in the last 8 years, this includes the description of nine new species for science. Best represented families are Syllidae (85 spp), Spionidae (32spp), and Sabellidae and Serpulidae (30 spp., Each). The knowledge of polychaete diversity is greater in the country northeastern region (89%), followed by the central west (7%), while the Venezuelan Atlantic coast and the island region (La Tortuga, las Aves and Los Roques Archipelago) only contribute 4% of this knowledge
Estudio cariotípico en plantas de Agave cocui trelease (Asparagaceae) nativas del estado Sucre, Venezuela | Karyotypic study in plants of Agave cocui trelease (Asparagaceae) from Sucre state, Venezuela
Palabras clave: Cariotipo, cromosomas, poblaciones nativas.ABSTRACTMitotic chromosomes of three populations of Agave cocui near Mochima National Park (10°23'45'' N, 64°21'20'' O, 41 m a.s.l.), Morro de Puerto Santo (10°42'43'' N, 63°09'50'' O, 72 m a.s.l.) and Playa Medina (10°42'58'' N, 63°00'42'' O, 35 m a.s.l.), Sucre state, Venezuela were analyzed. Conventional protocols were applied through temporal glass preparing for mitosis and karyotyping, photomicrographs records and computer analysis. The highest frequency of metaphase cells was observed at 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. Karyotype was consistently diploid 2n=2x=60 with 25 pairs of small chromosomes (0.83-2.10 µm) m type, and five largest pairs (3.68 to 4.97 µm) sm and st (with satellites). Asymmetry index A1 = 0.74 and A2 = 0.65 confirm bimodal karyotype in this species. Populations were similar, and idiogramatic formula is 50m+8sm+2stsat. These results represent the first report of count and classification of chromosomes in A. cocui.Key words: Karyotype, chromosomes, native populations.
