Articular hyaline cartilage damage is difficult to repair since the chondrocytes often fail to multiply in vivo.  Despite many centuries of advances in medical science the repair of damaged articular cartilage tissue remains controversial. This article presents a comprehensive review of the current state of articular cartilage implantation in the knee.Articular hyaline cartilage damage is difficult to repair since the chondrocytes often fail to multiply in vivo.  Despite many centuries of advances in medical science the repair of damaged articular cartilage tissue remains controversial. The role of the foot in the mechanism of shock absorption

    Get PDF
The present work introduces an anatomical specimen of the muscles of the foot with the intention to promote the understanding of its structure in anatomical courses. The specimen is preserved with the plastination technique of Günther von Hagens. Special attention has been paid to the potential function of individual pedal muscles in the support of the plantar arches as deduced from the fascicular geometry and attachment of the muscles. Attention has been called to the importance of the care of the foot order to maintain its structural and functional integrity. DOI: 10.17489/biohun/2009/1/0

Comparison of different equilibrium examining methods – A pilot study: examination of the improvement in balance after hippotherapy

    Get PDF
A kezelések hatásának követésére két módszert alkalmaztunk. DOI: 10.17489/biohun/2009/1/07One of the most known fields of horse riding therapy is hippotherapy, which is a neurophysiologic physiotherapy treatment with the help of a specially trained horse and a qualified hippotherapist. Recently, numerous studies had been devoted to the effectiveness of hippotherapy. One of the most important indications for this kind of therapy is child neurology. Researchers substantiated that it has advantages in the balance improvement. In our study we examined balance changes of three spastic children after 14 weeks of regular hippotherapy. All had the diagnosis for infantile cerebral palsy. To follow the effectiveness weused two methods. The first one was a standardised scale (Berg Balance Scale – BBS) the second one was a measuring instrument (forced platform). Our aim was to compare the appropriateness of the methods in the efficacy of hippotherapy as a treatment strategy for the vestibular system.Based on the literature, both methods are valid and reliable in examining the equilibrium. The BBS points increased in our both cases. The points for the exercise “legs side by side with eyes open” didn’t change in either of the subject in BBS. This was the exercise used by the measurement in the force platform also. The changes by the measurement with force platform showed no major level in the anterior-posterior direction. In the medio-lateral direction each subjects sway path changed for better. We suggest that under appropriate circumstances both methods could be capable for examination of the effects of hippotherapy on balance. For the measurement of static balance exercise and short-term effects forced platform offers more accurate results

Problems of bone - orthopaedic implant interactions

    Get PDF
The paper presents main aspects of modern orthopaedic implants design and operation. Influence of implant shape and especially stiffness characteristics and stress distribution on the surface of implant, which is in direct contact with bone, are presented. As the second factor influence of implant shape on the bone remodelling processes in the macro and micro scale was analyzed. Main distribution of general bone density as well as distribution of cancellous bone trabecules in the presence of implant is analyzed. Finally, new type of surface layer (including technology of layer manufacturing) was developed. DOI: 10.17489/biohun/2008/1/4
