Herpetofaunal inventory of the Ranga Reserve Forest, Lakhimpur, Assam, India

The Ranga Reserve Forest in Assam, India, is a crucial ecological enclave in the biodiverse northeasternregion. The forest’s diverse landscape, characterized by riverine and hilly terrain, offers a habitat mosaic conducive toa rich array of amphibians and reptiles. We herein present a comprehensive inventory of the herpetofauna conductedfrom March 2021 to June 2022. We encountered a total of 60 herpetofaunal species (13 amphibians and 47 reptiles:11 lizards, 34 snakes, and two turtles), including critically endangered, endangered, vulnerable, and near-threatenedspecies. Our findings highlight the Ranga Reserve Forest as a hotspot of herpetofaunal diversity, emphasizing theimportance of continued research and conservation efforts to safeguard this invaluable ecosystem

Two-body densities as a framework for dynamical imaging and their connection to ultra-peripheral collisions

We present results on two-parton densities in coordinate space which capture a fuller dynamical picture of the proton’s internal structure, including information on the relative position between quarks and gluons in the transverse plane. The connection of such two-body densities to observables, proceeds in QCD, via the definition of  double generalized parton distributions (DGPDs) that can be accessed in the production of two vector mesons, or two dimuon systems in ultraperipheral collisions (UPCs) through a double scattering process

    Special Slums: Chengzhongcuns in China

This paper explores the emergence and socio-economic dynamics of chengzhongcuns (城中村, “urban villages”) as a manifestation of social disorder within China’s rapid urbanization, driven by neoliberal reforms. It examines how chengzhongcuns developed as rural areas engulfed by expanding cities; the hukou (户口, “household registration”) system and land ownership policies from the Mao era continue to shape these spaces. Chengzhongcuns are not fully integrated into formal urban planning due to the unique land ownership system, where rural land remains collectively owned by villagers, unlike urban land, which is state-owned. This paper highlights the key differences between chengzhongcuns and slums in other developing countries, particularly how chengzhongcuns are legally distinct and intentionally maintained within the current land and governance framework rather than being a product of government failure. The socio-economic challenges faced by migrant workers in these spaces, especially the rise of the Sanhe dashen (三和大神, “Sanhe gurus”) subculture, further illustrate the marginalization and inequality within China’s urban economy. By situating chengzhongcuns in both local and global contexts of informal urbanization, this paper offers insights into China’s unique approach to urban development, emphasizing how the persistence of chengzhongcuns reflects broader patterns of social inequality in rapidly urbanizing countries
