Assessment of Physical Activity and Quality of life in Individuals with Long COVID.

    No full text
ABSTRACT Background: Assessing physical activity (PA) and quality of life (QoL) in individuals with Long COVID-19 is crucial for determining targeted interventions to improve physical function. While physical activity is known to enhance overall well-being, its exact impact on the quality of life for individuals affected by Long COVID-19 remains underexplored, particularly among ethnically diverse populations. Method: This cross-sectional study investigates the relationship between physical activity and quality of life in individuals affected by Long-term COVID-19, with a focus on a diverse population. It recruited 103 participants who were previously diagnosed with COVID-19. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and SF-36 Quality of Life questionnaire were used to assess physical activity and quality of life, respectively. Result: The majority of the participants were female (74.8%), married (60.2%), and aged between 36–65 years. Most reported low physical activity (50.5%) and low quality of life (58.3%). A significant positive correlation was found between physical activity and quality of life (ρ = 0.470, p < .001), with higher physical activity associated with improved quality of life. ANOVA and post hoc analyses confirmed that participants with higher physical activity had significantly better quality of life scores (F(2,100) = 11.981, p < .001). Regression analysis showed physical activity significantly predicted quality of life (R² = 0.212, p < .001). Age significantly influenced quality of life (p = .002) but not physical activity. Conclusion: Most participants exhibited low physical activity levels (PAL) and quality of life (QoL). Therefore, prompt and targeted interventions are crucial for enhancing the physical function and overall well-being of individuals with Long COVID. The role of coaches in modern football is not solely about the tactical and technical preparation of players. They must also prepare their team mentally and emotionally. To bring out the very best in their players, coaches are constantly seeking effective leadership methods to meet the needs of the modern athlete. Servant leadership has emerged as an influential approach that has attracted increased attention, particularly due to its special emphasis on the well-being and development of followers as a pathway to achieving organizational success. According to the researcher, sports thus provide a particularly interesting context in which to study servant leadership. The research question posed in this project is: "The influence and effectiveness of servant leadership in football." What makes a coach a good leader, and what do players want from their coach? The purpose of the research is thus to assess the influence and effectiveness of servant leadership within the sports environment by examining what players seek from their coach to feel motivated, satisfied, and successful as athletes. To attempt to answer this research question, the researcher conducted a qualitative study. Interviews were conducted with five experienced and successful football players, all of whom have competed at the highest level domestically and abroad. The findings of the research indicated that many players seek qualities from their coach that are closely associated with servant leadership characteristics Keywords: Servant leadership, football, leader, OLA mode

Exploring students’ experiences of a blended learning pre-registration midwifery education programme

    No full text
Background/Aims Blended learning is increasingly adopted in pre-registration midwifery education because of its pedagogical benefits, yet little research explores student midwives’ lived experiences of such programmes. This study examined the experiences of final-year student midwives undertaking a 3-year blended learning programme, to enhance educator understanding. Methods This qualitative interpretative phenomenological study involved four purposively selected students from a university in southeast England. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, transcribed verbatim and analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. Results Four experiential themes were found: the safety and welfare of learning, ownership and autonomy, the gravitational pull of friendships, and the nurturing aspect of peer relationships. Students reported increased self-efficacy, academic and professional growth, and the significance of connection and belonging. Conclusions Conclusions Blended learning supports recruitment, retention and student wellbeing, encouraging a compassionate learning environment that enhances preparedness for midwifery practice. Implications for practice It is suggested that blended learning supports the development of compassionate and more autonomous individuals who are equipped to work as professional midwives in a digitally evolving clinical environment
