The Roar of a Rocket: Launch Vehicle Acoustics at Cape Canaveral
No full textThis thesis investigates the acoustic impact of rocket launches from Cape Canaveral, focusing on NASA\u27s Space Launch System (SLS) and SpaceX\u27s Falcon 9. Initial studies on SLS’s Artemis-I launch report sound pressure levels and frequency spectra up to 50 kilometers from the launchpad. Results showed significantly higher sound levels than predicted, underscoring the need for updated models to accurately represent noise impacts on surrounding communities. Building on these findings, subsequent work during the thesis calculated SLS\u27s sound power and compared it to historical data from NASA’s Saturn V to characterize the acoustic efficiency of modern heavy-lift rockets. Further analysis applied aeroacoustic scaling laws typically used for supersonic jets, improving modeling of rockets with multiple types of engines and motors. In addition, repeated measurements of Falcon 9 launches were conducted, providing a dataset to evaluate variation in rocket noise propagation. The thesis concludes by highlighting insights for refining noise models to better assess the environmental and community impacts of current and future rocket launches. This work contributes to sustainable spaceport operations by informing practices that can mitigate rocket noise as the launch cadence on Florida\u27s space coast continues to increase
Functional Analysis and Intervention of Multiply Controlled Behavior
Get PDFMore than one function may control problem behavior. Functional analysis helps identify the potential sources of reinforcement that maintain the problem behavior. Interventions such as functional communication training (FCT) and extinction (EXT) have proven effective in decreasing problem behavior and increasing compliance among children with intellectual disabilities. This paper aims to conduct a functional analysis and treatment for children with multiply controlled behaviors by replicating and extending the works of Neidert, Iwata, and Dozier (2005). Intervention procedures consisted of FCT and EXT and were based on each relevant function of behavior for each participant. As a result of the intervention procedure, problem behavior decreased, and communication improved. This article discusses future recommendations and limitations related to multiply controlled
The Sustainable CEO: The Influence of CEO Gender on Consumer Perceptions of Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives
Get PDFPurpose – The following study aims to explore how CEO gender influences consumer perceptions of CSR initiatives in terms of corporate environmental protection, corporate social equity, initiative credibility, and corporate trust. Design/Methodology/Approach – This two-by-two factorial design with repeated measures utilizes a survey-experiment administered to 260 US citizens via Prolific Academic. Participants are exposed to mockup news articles detailing the CSR initiatives (environmental protection or social equity focus) of a fictitious CEO (male or female). Findings – Results indicate that CEO gender does not significantly influence consumer perceptions of CSR initiative corporate environmental protection, corporate social equity, credibility, or corporate trust. However, findings do show a significant positive relationship between initiative credibility and social equity, and social equity, environmental protection, initiative credibility and corporate trust. Originality/Value – This study expands the literature on CSR communication and CEO branding, examining through the lens of consumer perceptions of CSR initiatives based on manipulated CEO gender
Integrating social policy dimensions into entrepreneurship education: a perspective from India
No full textSocial innovation and social enterprise are often supposed as methodological solutions to address multifaceted socio-economic problems, due to the sharing of ideas and their involvement of stakeholders from different sectors. This cooperative treatise (Ziegler in Innov Eur J Soc Sci Res 30:388–405, 2017) is striking to legislators across the political gamut. This research is therefore positioned within the broader literature on social innovation and its policy relevance; even though social innovation is not a novel thought, the application of social innovation as a policy idea and its part in relation to the restructuring of the prevailing welfare establishment has gained momentum in recent years. Hence, in their paper the authors will examine how social enterprise as a concept can act as a positive catalyst for influencing policy (i.e. public and social) in the developing world. To meet the overall aim of this paper, the authors employed a case study of India and applied a three-step approach, namely: (1) a literature review process that explored a variety of policy methods that can influence on the accomplishment and measurement of social enterprises; (2) a policy survey, which entailed desk-based searches of national and state-level policies, followed by stakeholder consultation queries to complement online results; and (3) qualitative interviews with stakeholders from government agencies and departments at national and state levels, including the Ministry of Finance, representatives of private industry, chambers of commerce, social investors, social enterprise networks, and advocacy leads.
