Supporting Youth Through School Transitions: The Positive Impact of Peer Mentorship
This capstone project proposes the development of a peer mentorship program to assist with student transitions across different school levels. The project advocates for a school-wide plan that leverages peer support to create smoother and more positive transition experiences for all students. The initiative aims to mitigate transition-related anxiety, foster a stronger sense of belonging, and enhance overall school involvement among students. To gain valuable insights and feedback on this proposal, an interview protocol was implemented with school administration and staff. The findings from these interviews highlighted existing disconnects between schools during transition periods and recognized the need for increased crossover and collaboration. The feedback from the interviews strongly indicated widespread support among school personnel for a more comprehensive and formalized peer mentorship program, which empowers students by providing them with a sense of community and agency during school transitions
Caring for Yourself While Caring for Others: How to Utilize Self-Care Practices Through Intentional Planning and Boundary Setting to Prevent Student Leadership Burnout
There is a lot of literature discussing burnout, training that exists to help leaders combat leadership burnout and resources that uplift self-care practices. However, very few talk about student leadership burnout, the harm burnout can cause student leaders, and how to prevent burnout from occurring. This workshop aimed to examine how student leaders can utilize selfcare practices through intentional planning and boundary setting to prevent student leadership burnout from happening to care for oneself while caring for others with a focus on prevention work. Although everything discussed and shared throughout this workshop can be used to recover from burnout, the goal is to prevent student leaders from facing it because true prevention work includes setting up future professional leaders–student leaders with the knowledge, tools, and resources to practice self-care, self-advocacy, and avoid burnout in general. The workshop provided profound observations on how student leaders at Stonehill College experience leadership burnout, navigate prevention and recovery from burnout, explore their relationship to self-care, and use practices such as boundary setting, self-advocacy, and intentional planning. Following the workshop\u27s conclusion, data collected from discussions, activities, surveys, and observation rubrics were systematically assessed and analyzed

Rethinking the Massachusetts College and Career Readiness (CCR) Curriculum: Gaps in Support and Recommended Accommodations for Students with Intellectual Disabilities
This project seeks to fill a void in college and career readiness resources for students with intellectual disabilities. The Massachusetts College and Career Readiness (CCR) MyCAP template, recommendations from ASCA, MASCA, DESE, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) will be referenced to create an adapted curriculum. The project is driven by the need for such a resource in an urban middle school. Currently, the school offers general education students CCR lessons, but no such curriculum is available for students with intellectual disabilities. The final project includes recommended instructional lessons in the three CCR domains: personal/social, career development and education, and academic college and career planning. These lessons are sequenced, meet instructional needs of the students, and provide opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities to explore careers and postsecondary plans.https://scholarworks.merrimack.edu/rcac_2025_posters/1012/thumbnail.jp
Transfer College Success Bridge
An increasing number of students are transferring from community colleges to four-year institutions. However, these students often face significant challenges, including a lack of understanding of the transfer process, inadequate advising, financial pressures, and competing responsibilities (Boone, 2017). Transferring from a community college to a four-year institution is more than just transferring credits; Transfer students face a variety of challenges ranging from managing the high costs of education, difficulties integrating into a new academic environment, and making it through “transfer shock” (Rivera-Jiménez, 2024). By increasing support frameworks, institutions can ensure that transfer students will be able to thrive in their new college. In this project, I aim to enhance the preparation of transfer students by establishing a comprehensive transfer transition workshop series. Developing an effective program will help ensure that more transfer students are equipped to succeed and graduate.https://scholarworks.merrimack.edu/rcac_2025_posters/1023/thumbnail.jp
