A Comparative Analysis of the DESSA-SSESE Screener & Traditional Referral System for SEL Needs
This project aims to evaluate the effectiveness of two referral systems used in a suburban public school to identify students in need of Social Emotional support along with a way to track their progress. The old referral system was hand created and used in 2019-2022 and the new screener was implemented in 2023. The school is currently in the second pilot year of the new strength based assessment. This project investigates whether the new screener is an effective tool for measuring students\u27 needs and improvements. Using student outcome data from both the “old referral system” and the new system examines students\u27 social and emotional growth. The findings suggest that the new screening system is more effective at identifying student needs as well as monitoring progress toward social and emotional goals.https://scholarworks.merrimack.edu/rcac_2025_posters/1008/thumbnail.jp
Live For Liv Foundation
Our project is for our senior capstone class. For this project, we are working with the organization Live For Liv. This organization raises awareness about domestic violence and offers support to survivors. We are working closely with the organization\u27s founder, Jody Marchand, to support her in her efforts to fundraise and spread awareness. For this project, we are working on assisting her in sharing information about the organization and the upcoming fundraising opportunities, signs of domestic violence, personal testimonies, and other important and impactful information. We are doing this via newsletter. Additionally, we are providing support for Jody in her upcoming events. Along with this, we are working with the fitness rec center to bring a fundraising event to Merrimack. We would like to spread awareness to the Merrimack College community about the pertinent information and the services that are available to those experiencing domestic violence. Jody’s mission as a survivor of domestic violence is to share her daughter’s story. Her daughter passed away due to a domestic violence incident and Jody has a passion for preventing this from happening to others and to honor her daughter’s memory. Our group will continue to support Jody’s mission; bringing awareness to the Merrimack campus. Save Our Streets
Throughout this semester we have been working with the organization, Save R Streets, located in Boston. The organization works to build community and utilize resources for those underprivileged. Our efforts with this organization have been focused on outreach, and social media to widen the scope to which the organization can operate. We have created a template for a weekly send out that can be updated with important events, drives, and details to be sent out on multiple platforms to reach the widest community audience we can. This allows the organization to connect with more clients, sponsors, and other organizations in an easy and adjustable way. Autism Spectrum Disorder and Mainstream Education
I wrote a literature review about autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and mainstream schooling. I wanted to observe how different groups would be impacted by the inclusion of autistic students in general education. To do this, I gathered fifteen articles that had the perspectives of students with ASD, parents who have autistic children, and mainstream educators. The results varied from each group. Autistic students felt the most negatively towards mainstream education, claiming that it wasn’t accommodative to their needs. The opinions of parents varied. Some felt positively because the teachers were doing their best to support autistic students. Others felt misheard, claiming that the school was not doing enough to accommodate their children. Teachers felt positively about mainstream education for the most part, but felt inexperienced teaching students with ASD. Statistical Analysis of Matchup Advantages in Clutch MLB Situations
This project is an analysis of 210 walk-off events from the 2024 MLB season. A walk-off is a clutch plate appearance that results in a game-winning play by the home team in the bottom of the final inning. As the presence of analytics continues to grow throughout Major League Baseball, teams and organizations are always looking for new ways to use these statistics to give them a competitive edge. One such application is evaluating head-to-head matchups against opposing teams and pitchers to inform lineup decisions. When creating starting lineups, managers consider factors like how well their offense performs against pitchers similar to the opposing starting pitcher or how batters fare in the given ballpark. If a certain player has particularly outstanding success in one of these areas, the manager is more likely to include him in the lineup for the day. This project uses statistical analysis and hypothesis testing to explore the question: To what extent do offensive matchups influence success in clutch situations? Specifically, it investigates whether many of these walk-off events were the result of a favorable matchup, or if there is no true way to predict who will come up clutch. 1:1 Inclusion Complex of β-cyclodextrin and Fluorene
Parallel Factor Analysis is a multivariable analysis that allows for fluorescence data to be analyzed. In this work, PARAFAC was utilized to determine the equilibrium constant of a 1:1 complex of β-cyclodextrin and fluorene. Cyclodextrin has many applications, given its hydrophobic core and hydrophilic surface, allowing it to form inclusion complexes with poorly soluble molecules. PARAFAC is able to relate the fluorescence intensities to each component in the sample by generating score values. The score values are directly proportional to the concentration of each component in the sample, and can be used to determine the equilibrium constant through a series of calculations. PARAFAC creates calculated emission and excitation models, based on a diagnostic table that helps to determine the number of components in the sample. Throughout the trials in this work, the PARAFAC model of best fit revealed a possible impurity that could impact the accuracy of the calculated equilibrium constant. The objective of this work was to show that PARAFAC modeling can accurately calculate the equilibrium constant in comparison to literature values performed with similar methods.https://scholarworks.merrimack.edu/rcac_2025_posters/1063/thumbnail.jp
