A Satilla Marsh Service-Learning Project
For the month of October, we visited Satilla Marsh every Thursday to work with students on math instruction. We observed four Eureka math lessons and then worked in small groups on further instruction and strategy building. Students varied in ability, some of the students we worked with had 504/IEP’s. Because of these students with 504/IEP documentation, we had to differentiate instruction to fit the needs of each student. Each week we provided informal assessments through the form of exit tickets. These assessments we analyzed based on student errors and strategies used. After proving feedback a re-engagement lesson was created to supplement student learning.Karen Lucas, Ph
Alzheimer's Disease Awareness and National Caregiver Month
Students worked with the College's Human Resources Division to raise awareness about Alzheimer's Disease. The group engaged participants in brain stimulating games, color sheets to enhance memory, stress squeeze animals, and lotion to soothe individuals who are in the role of caregiver. Brochures were provided to educate about Alzheimer's Disease and caregiver strain and answered questions and provided related disease and resources.Dawana Gibbs, MSN, RN, CNE
