The year 1985-86, marking the twenty-second year of the college's
operation, was a very successful year with outstanding accomplishments
reported in nearly every field of institutional endeavor. It was,
however, a period in which the college experienced budgetary
restraints and a slight decline in student enrollment, but one in
which the institution nevertheless made significant advances. --
During the past several years the college has been engaged in
developing credit programs to serve the needs of the two military
bases located in our attendance area: Fort Stewart in Hinesville and
the Naval Submarine Base in St. Marys.--

Negotiations were begun in the early fall of 1985 when officials of
Armstrong State College, Georgia Southern College, Savannah State
College, Valdosta State College, and Brunswick Junior College met with
Vice Chancellor W. Ray Cleere to explore ways and means of
establishing a residential center on the Brunswick Junior College
campus. --
bonanza year for Quick Start training programs: Stambaugh Aviation, Interior Products, International Auto,
and Sossner Tap and Too --
Exciting year for the library. library went on-line for cataloging and interlibrary
loan purposes through the Southeastern Library Information Network
(SOLINET). All new purchases of materials will
be entered into the database, and, as funds permit, there will be a
retrospective conversion of bibliographic records. our first VHS player.
Five micro-computers were purchased for Faculty-
Staff Development. -- For the first time in the college's history, both student
publications--Seaswells, the faculty/student anthology, and the
Mariners' Log, the student newspaper have won first place national
awards by the American Scholastic Press Association

The year 1984-85, which marks the twenty-first year of the
college's operation, was a very successful year with outstanding
accomplishments reported in nearly every field of institutional
endeavor. It was a period in which the college experienced budgetary
restraints and enrollment decline, but one in which the institution
nevertheless made significant advances. --
The academic programs have been enhanced by additional
purchases of microcomputers for instructional purposes.
Only two
years ago the college had no microcomputers. However, after a
matching grant was secured from the Sapelo Island Research Foundation,
the first microcomputer laboratory was established in the Fall of
1983. During 1984-85, an additional 27 microcomputers were purchased. --
increase of minority enrollment
from 18.2% during the spring quarter 1983-84 to 20.9% during the
spring quarter 1984-85. On the negative side, the [overall] enrollment decline was a disappointment
for the academic area of endeavor. --
Library: For the
third straight year the library/media budget was frozen. Library continued to have various art exhibits that were well
attended. Major problems continue to be a critical shortage of space and
shelving and a great reduction in purchasing power because of
inflation. SOLINET membership will be very beneficial when it becomes
operational, and we are extremely pleased to have been able to join. --
new student constitution was written and approved. Seaswells, the faculty-student
anthology, for the third year won national acclaim. Men's basketball team won its second consecutive
State Junior College Championship, while the women's tennis team
placed second in the State and participated in the national finals. --
Although the enrollment decline resulted in a budget reduction in
internal revenue, significant progress was made in restoring operating
and equipment budgets this year

The year 1983-84, which marks the twentieth year of the college's
operation, was a very successful year with outstanding accomplishments
reported in nearly every field of institutional endeavor. It was a
year in which the college was plagued with budgetary restraints but
one in which the institution nevertheless made significant advances in
off-campus programs, faculty recruitment, curriculum development,
minority student affairs, and scholarship endowment. However, the
many and varied accomplishments were, to some extent, overshadowed by
a decline in student enrollment in credit courses. --
effort has been exerted toward extending
off-campus programs, especially at the two military bases in the
attendance area...an exemplary program of minority
recruitment has been implemented. --
Developed a faculty which would not only
reflect strong academic credentials, but would also be deeply
committed to the goals and objectives of a comprehensive junior
college serving a diverse student population. --
The 1983-84 year was not an easy one for the library. Major problems continue to be a critical shortage of space and
shelving for periodicals, a great reduction in purchasing power
because of inflation and budget cuts, a need for replacement of
library and audio-visual equipment

The year 1982-83 was one of the most successful in the history
of the college. It was a year highlighted by an increase in student
enrollment, a broadening of faculty-student involvement in
campus activities, and a further strengthening of community support.
It was also a year marked by noteworthy accomplishments in the academic
area, significant achievements in the area of institutional
development, and improved performance among both faculty and administration. --
The institution has experienced significant changes and growth
in several areas of operation. One change was the establishment of
the Office of Institutional Research and Development, which has
successfully enabled the college to increase its base of community
support and involvement. Another is the implementation of the new
academic organization, which is proving to be both efficient and
effective. Other significant modifications include the reorganization
of the Brunswick College Foundation, the initiation of some
modest institutional research, and the reinstitution of intercollegiate
athletics

The year 1981-82 was a busy period in the history of the college.
Two major projects growing out of the Southern Association Institutional
Self-Study dominated all other activity. These two projects
were the redrafting of the institutional statutes and the reorganization
of the academic administrative staff. -- Also growing out of the Institutional Self-Study was the recommendation
that the institution conduct a community survey of educational
needs to provide relevant data to be considered in planning
future course offerings and degree programs. --
This year was a very strong year for cultural programs and
exhibits. --

The Division of Continuing Education experienced an increase
in enrollment for non-credit activities during the 1981-82 program
year. A total of 5,064 registrations were received in 245 non-credit
activities, representing an increase of 10% --
The office of Student Affairs broadened its base of services to
students through the addition of the Career Development Center under
the direction of a Counselor/Evaluator who assists students, particularly
the handicapped and disadvantaged --

The fiscal year 1980-81 was an eventful and busy period in the
history of the college. During this year, the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools Institutional Self-Study for reaffirmation
was completed. --

With a new director assuming his duties as Director of Continuing
Education and Community Services, there were significant increases --
courses have been taught on the Naval Submarine
Support Base at Kings Bay. Contract for instruction of U.S. Customs officials (88 students) --

Effort was made during the year to strengthen the student academic
advisory program. --
Continued effort was exerted to improve the evening instructional
program. --

Brunswick Junior College was integrated at the time of its initial
year of operation. It has, therefore, had a substantial enrollment of
minority students. The percentage of black students has averaged about
20 percent over the years. This is considered to be a relatively high
percentage as compared with the percentage of black population (approximately
28%) in the surrounding community
