No full textThe fungal endophytes from the stem and roots of Salicornia depressa, commonly known as glassworts, were isolated and its medicinal properties were looked at. Both endophytes had a very similar strength of inhibition against E. coli, P. aeruginosa, S. aureus, and V. parahaemolyticus. Further analysis was done to obtain the chemical compounds of the endophytes on the liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS) machine
A Literature Review of Effects of Concussions on the Brain and Mental Health of Athletes
No full textThis literature review investigates the effects concussions have on the brain and mental health of athletes. The mechanism of concussions is described as how it affects the brain and some possible cellular effects. Then several studies are highlighted in the major contact sports of football and soccer as well as a comparison of the rate of concussions in men’s versus women’s sports. It is also pointed out that concussions occur much more often in competition than in practice sessions. The analysis shows there’s a strong correlation between concussions and mental issues such as anxiety, depression, behavioral and emotional changes. Functional Neurocognitive Imaging is a new technique used in detecting concussion injuries and can be used to develop a treatment plan for injured individuals. It is also pointed out that concussions can lead to serious disorders like Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), Second Impact Syndrome (SIS), and Parkinson’s Disease, but with the correct amount of treatment and recovery time, athletes can go back to living their life normally without the fear of future mental backlash from their initial concussion

Locally Grown Food for Wellspring Residents
Get PDFEvidence shows that spending time outdoors can be beneficial to many aspects of health. It is also known that low-income families and individuals have less access to fresh, nutritional food. These two facts in conjunction provide compelling reasons for the use of community gardens and food education in homeless shelters. Wellspring House, Inc, has incorporated locally grown food in its shelters since its founding. This project focused on documenting and scheduling the work that is done in the gardens at Wellspring in order to make the gardens more efficient, effective, and beneficial to both residents/guests and staff. In addition, fresh vegetables from the garden were used to make goods for gift baskets that were gifted to residents and staff during the 2021 season

Recruiting healthcare employees who are from similar backgrounds and speak the same language as their patients improves quality of care. The goal for this senior-level internship was to market different healthcare positions at a local community health center and attract potential candidates from different ethnic backgrounds. In the recruitment process, data was collected on health center employees and surrounding community demographics which led to the creation of flyers in both English and Spanish. The flyer was distributed to local Hispanic and black churches as well as targeted geographical areas where different ethnic populations exist

Polycaprolactone And Its Use As A Biodegradable Trash Bag
Get PDFThe Earth is choking from the pollution of man made plastic and the environment is in desperate need of a solution that will aid in the fight against climate change. The emerging research and production of biodegradable polymers offers hope of an environmentally safe alternative that will be able to be used in place of standard plastic. This study aims to strategize a substitute for the linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) trash bags using polycaprolactone (PCL), a biodegradable polyester. Specifically, this research investigates PCL’s manufacturing capabilities and molecular effectiveness as a LLDPE replacement. These investigations bring into question PCL’s capability to be used as a trash bag and feasible modifications of PCL are theorized to mimic the molecular properties of LLDPE. To examine PCL as a LLDPE substitute, this research study details the molecular properties and material characteristics of both materials and future experimentation. Trash bag manufacturing methods are also described in order to determine the ability for PCL to be a replacement from a production standpoint. There is a probable need for a modification of PCL in order for it to be a feasible alternative and multiple solutions are explored, including a branch addition polymerization synthesis and various polyester blends. This study also gives recommendations to fix grave concerns in regards to biodegradable plastic production. The theory of this eco-friendly alternative presents possible and adequate results as a LLDPE substitute.Chemistry and Physic
