Implications Of Inaccurate Representation In Crime And Prison Television Dramas
The criminal justice system in the United States is extremely discriminatory against Black and Latinx people in particular and has many issues with racial disparities. Mass incarceration, legal discrimination, and unsafe prison conditions are only some of the problems that the system is facing. Black people have been disproportionately targeted by this system, as they have always been subject to over-policing and racism in the law, though Latinx people are also overrepresented in the system in comparison to the general population. The establishment of the War on Drugs in the 1980s only expanded these practices, and now the criminal justice system is at its breaking point. Media culture plays a role in shaping public sentiment about the criminal justice system. Television dramas about crime and prison sensationalize the system by encoding harmful narratives about crime and prison, which leads to audiences to decoding stereotypical and sensational messages. Using Stuart Hall’s encoding/decoding model of media communication, this project investigates the impact of television dramas on viewers’ perceptions of crime, prison, and the criminal justice system. I analyze two popular television dramas, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Oz, in relation to research on the realities of the criminal justice system and the impact of television on viewers. My analysis demonstrates that there are many ways in which these programs perpetuate harmful and inaccurate messages and stereotypes to viewers about crime, prison, criminals, and the criminal justice system due to inadequate representation, lack of productive discourse about crime and prison, and racist imagery encoding.Englis
El Uso De La Música En Las Clases De Español En Los EEUU
In this thesis I explore the use of music in Spanish classes in the United States. Though there are a few disadvantages, the benefits hugely outweigh them. Childhood Education and Car
The Role of Antioxidant Gene Regulation During Bacterial Oxidative Stress Response
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are produced naturally in a cell and when the cell is in homeostasis, there is an equilibrium of ROS and antioxidants (enzymes that combat ROS). Stresses can occur such as “Oxidative Stress” which results in an influx of ROS compared to antioxidants in the cell and could lead to damage of DNA, lipids and proteins and also cell death. To return the cell’s homeostatic state, bacteria have evolved to contain defense mechanisms to eradicate ROS. This paper will focus on the regulation of antioxidants that are produced to eliminate high concentrations of ROS when the cell is under oxidative stress. These antioxidants are encompassed in a mechanism called a “Regulon,” which controls the production of these enzymes. The regulons within this paper include the OxyR, Rpos, SoxRS, PerR, and OhrR regulons. Each regulon plays a critical role in the survival of bacterial species when experiencing oxidative stress. There are many mechanisms such as regulons that help defend the bacterial cell from damage or death from oxidative stress.Biolog

U.S. Nitrile Glove Shortage In A Humanitarian Crisis: Inmogeia Technologies Inc.
The COVID-19 pandemic has impeded the global supply of nitrile gloves, causing mass shortages, scams, fraud, and chaos. The nitrile glove shortage has presented the U.S. with a humanitarian crisis. U.S. hospitals, nursing homes, dental practices, first responders, the entire healthcare system is in peril. Health workers are scared to provide care because they lack the necessary protective nitrile gloves. The U.S. reliance on importation of nitrile gloves has left the nation susceptible, and victim too, the major portion of global fraud and scams. The COVID-19 pandemic, combined with deficient domestic manufacturing, and lacking federal guidance has placed the United States in a humanitarian crisis. The U.S. shortage of nitrile gloves and PPE, represents “a gap in our national security (Rep. Stephen Lynch, 2021)”
Social Media Effects on LGBT Youth: Learning How to Navigate Social Media Productively and Effectively
Social media is everywhere and no matter what, we will hear about it every day. Whether we see it or not, adolescent use of social media can be very triggering or uncomfortable for young minds. Adolescents use social media differently other than watching the news or school, which can lead to dark places on the internet. This senior-level internship experience has brought attention to the dark sides of social media that children can experience, especially those a part of the LGBTQ community. The CREW program encourages adolescents to use social media in ways that promote happiness and positivity instead of causing stress. CREW also offers life skills that work for each individual and allows them to express themselves
