"Seminar on World Cultures" COIL Teaching Reflection
No full textTeaching reflection written by Fátima Serra (World Languages and Cultures) on her experiences teaching "Seminar on World Cultures," a Spring 2022 undergraduate Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) course at Salem State University. The SSU course collaborated with a course taught at Universidad de Oviedo in Oviedo, Spain.There were 21 students in the SSU course and 18 students in the partner course. Digital tools used in collaborative work included Zoom, WhatsApp, Google Slides, Google Drive, Google Docs, Canva, and YouTube.WLC 190H: Honors Seminar on World Cultures: The Spanish Speaking WorldA variety of cultural artifacts, such as films, songs, literature, media, and/or works of art will be used to explore in depth the diverse historical, political and social forces that have shaped one or more world cultures outside the United States. Students will analyze and think critically about authentic materials and develop intercultural competency. The course will be taught in English and will have three lecture hours per week. This course is open to students in the Commonwealth Honors Program and other students by permission
Transition to Electronic Requisition and Vacancy Report
Get PDFThe goal of my project was to create a more efficient way of creating a notification of vacancy report. Prior to this project, notification vacancy reports were being completed manually and sent via email to the Human Resource manager and recruiter for review. This project will eliminate the need for making a job requisition manually. Through the applicant tracking system “iSolved Hire,” the hiring managers will be able to create their own job requisition when a job becomes vacant. Notification of vacancy was a process that was time consuming, the new system will be more efficient and effective and take about three to five minutes to complete. The recruiters will be notified immediately after the requisition is attained

Get PDFMy Garden (Book) is a collection of essays by Jamica Kincaid. In My Garden (Book) rememory is part of the storytelling and the overall narrative structure. Rememory appears as a recursive happening that allows Kincaid space to return to the historical record to offer recovery. Rememory is present in Kincaid's connection to Antiguan botany and a past that flourishes in the modern present; it exists as a bridge upon which much of the western African diaspora flows. Rememory is also present in the narrative structure of My Garden (Book). Kincaid shakes up the expectations of a narrative form; she breaks sentence structure with thought interruptions, jumps through time and place, inserts lists, and letters, and disrupts categorization and order, such as chapter titles. Fostering Cohesive Co-Caring Relationships Between Caregivers And Families Of Infant-Toddler Aged Children
No full textInstilling cohesive family-teacher relationships is beneficial for all children, especially when it relates to children at the infant and toddler age. When fostering these relationships, educators must be mindful on what a family is, what family functions are, and what the role of an educator is in relation to family functions at a young age. In working with families, it is important to remember that educators are an extension of the families care team, andc while they can make recommendations, decisions are ultimately the families in terms of what is best for that child. In order to instill a relationship in which healthy communication happens, an educator must be culturally responsive, respect the family dynamic, and educate themselves in areas they may not be familiar with. There are many strategies that previous research suggests fosters cohesive co-caring relationships between a parent and an educator in infant and toddler-aged children. These include good and open communication, discrepancies between challenging and undermining the support received and eliminating tension that may be present in conflicts. In this day in age, a lot of communication is present digitally. Educators in the modern world are using mostly online or digital ways of communication, such as Zoom calls, phone calls, or applications that a center may use. While these are substantial ways of communication, we need to ensure that the methods we use are culturally responsive and apply to the needs of all of the students in the classroom, including those who may not speak English at home, do not have technology access, or are working in the hours that educators are providing care to the children.School of Educatio
