No full textSyllabus for "Seminar on World Cultures," a Spring 2022 undergraduate Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) course taught by Fátima Serra (World Languages and Cultures) at Salem State University. The SSU course collaborated with a course taught at Universidad de Oviedo in Oviedo, Spain.There were 21 students in the SSU course and 18 students in the partner course. Digital tools used in collaborative work included Zoom, WhatsApp, Google Slides, Google Drive, Google Docs, Canva, and YouTube.WLC 190H: Honors Seminar on World Cultures: The Spanish Speaking WorldA variety of cultural artifacts, such as films, songs, literature, media, and/or works of art will be used to explore in depth the diverse historical, political and social forces that have shaped one or more world cultures outside the United States. Students will analyze and think critically about authentic materials and develop intercultural competency. The course will be taught in English and will have three lecture hours per week. This course is open to students in the Commonwealth Honors Program and other students by permission
Fetal Maternal Medicine/Infertility: Proposal for a Support Group at a Community Health Center
Get PDFThis project investigated the effectiveness of support groups and how to start one. Based on data from a needs assessment, the need for a support group was proposed to the CEO of the Health Center due to the high levels of pregnancy loss and infertitlity in the community. Advocacy and outreach were strongly recommended for the community being served given the low-income base and lack of resources. With support of medical students, qualified patients were surveyed for feedback on their interest in attending a support group session. The proposed support group program was approved with an initial start date of December 2021. It was concluded that the impact of communicating with patients is far more efective if the caregive has similar experiences to theirs

Hospital Employee Satisfaction: Best Practices in Staffing Ineffectiveness Prevention
No full textThis project investigated the issues that prevented staffing effectiveness at Tewksbury Hospital. Project objectives included identifying staffing issues and uncover strategies to improve their overall effectiveness. Interviews were conducted on 18 staff members of various ethnic backgrounds and from multiple departments within the hospital. The interview consisted of eight questions regarding staff satisfaction with their jobs and their overall work environment. Results showed that most staff members are not completely satisfied with their jobs (including their compensation and workload). Hospital leadership seeks to utilize the results of the survey to improve staffing effectiveness. Some suggestions from the interview included revising staff compensation, providing physical and mental health support for staff, and encouraged flexibility and understanding of staff needs

Using the eHana system, health outcomes were improved. This project involved examining the efficacy of transitioning from paper medical records to the eHana system for a safer, faster way to access patient records and provide treatment. The results showed that during the transition, more than 40 clients’ medical records were transferred to a securer, more convenient electronic space weekly
Impact of Controlled Exercise Programs on Balance and Coordination: A Case Study of Stroke Survivors
Get PDFThe purpose of this project was to monitor and record the progress of coordination and balance by using a controlled exercise program in stroke survivors. All participants had predetermined goals of improving coordination and balance, which helps improve ambulation and other functionality. The exercise routines of each participant were designed carefully by professionals in the field of exercise science using proven techniques focusing on the upper body, lower body, core strengthening, and transition to standing and walking. Implementing consistent exercise programs to improve balance and coordination over ten weeks also resulted in transferable functionality in the participants' daily lives, including increased independence for daily living activities and enjoyment
