    No full text
This research investigates the attitudes of college-aged students towards the COVID-19 vaccine. The prediction is that vaccine hesitancy towards the COVID-19 vaccines that exists in the college-aged population is due to misinformation, distrust in vaccines, and being uninformed. To test this hypothesis, a survey was conducted collecting information regarding vaccines and the COVID-19 pandemic from Salem State University students. The results could not confirm the hypothesis since no significant relationships were found due to the limitations of the study. Although the hypothesis of this research could not be confirmed, this research provides   foundation for future research.Sociolog

The disproportionate burden of maternal mortality among the African American community can be attributed to inequitable laws, cultural norms, and health practices. Over the course of a woman's lifespan and pregnancy, each of these elements has contributed to and aggravated the rising prevalence of health morbidities, life stresses, access to health care facilities and preventative treatment, as well as a lower quality of care.School of Nursin

Patients, Providers And Perceptions: Achieving Quality Of Care When Goals Are Not Aligned

    No full text
Despite asthma remaining one of the most common chronic pediatric conditions, patients are still constantly hospitalized due to poor self-management. Patient-centered care requires professionals to understand what barriers need to be modified in order to promote controlled asthma during healthy childhood/adolescent development. This literature review consists of seven key articles from CINAHL and PubMed with common themes identified: (1) nurses can help incorporate asthma care techniques that enhance healthy childhood and adolescent development (2) nurses can help identify family roles to start establishing patient resilience in childhood and (3) patients who have an interdependent relationship with providers have increased medical treatment adherence. These themes highlight the need for healthcare workers to ensure that patient-centered care is the core of patients self-managing their asthma. At the same time, natural family roles are respected, and patients can care for themselves with little distractions from having a healthy childhood. In return, this will help improve the quality of self-care and decrease hospital readmissions in asthmatic pediatric patients.School of Nursin

We distributed an online survey to a random sample of 300 tenured faculty who were employed at three public comprehensive universities. Mid-career faculty (N=30) with the highest scores on a vitality survey measure were invited to participate in individual interviews. Study fndings highlight the importance of creating vitality-enhancing work environments for midcareer faculty. In addition to identifying collegiality as a contributor to mid-career vitality, the study fndings reveal specifc sources of vitality-enhancing collegiality, including informal relationships in academic departments, participation in faculty development programs, and support and messaging from top-level academic leaders. Additionally, this study found that public comprehensive university missions served as a compelling basis for establishing collegial relationships and sustaining faculty vitality.School of Nursin

In Search Of My Identity: A Multi-Cultural Upbringing

    Get PDF
The documentary film I created as part of my Honors Thesis project examines the identity struggle I experienced with growing up in both Germany and the Unity States. In addition to video segments of an autobiography nature, the almost 14-minute film includes interviews with four other college-age women from multi-cultural backgrounds who discuss their views on their identity journeys. Themes such as the feeling of belonging, language barriers, living between two cultures, and fitting in with peers are also addressed. Each of the women who shared their stories in the film has a different country of origin, namely the Dominican Republic, France, Ghana, and Mexico. Concluding the documentary, I reflect on what I have learned from listening to their perspectives. The paper I wrote as an accompaniment to my documentary explores the process of creating the film. From coming up with the topic to choosing what interview clips to use, it details the lesser-known but crucial aspects of filming and editing. It explains the decisions I made regarding interview locations and camera equipment. I also discuss what I learned as a multi-cultural person and a filmmaker while creating this thesis.Media and Communicatio
