Full text linkBIDMC required an individual that could assist in the improvement of operations in the department of Food Service and Nutrition. With the proper resources, completing weekly tasks such as patient rounds, and reporting the necessary feedback from patients to the kitchen staff and general supervisor was easily achieved. A high volume of negative feedback,prompted initiatives to improve; kitchen workflow, timeliness of food delivery, and creation of accommodations. Although the data for the increase in positive feedback is not available at this time, comments about improvements in food quality, and service have been provided and emphasized

A Families' Guide to Emotional Intelligence in Early Childhood
Full text linkThis literature review looks over multiple research articles from researchers who investigated emotional intelligence, the different aspects of it, as well as its importance and how it can positively affect a person. Intelligence has long been considered the number one way to determine how successful someone is going to become, but plenty of research ahs been done to prove that it is far from the truth. but a different type of intelligence called emotional intelligence has been found to support success in both a person's career and social life.Emotional intelligence itself can be broken down into multiple aspects: emotions identification (identifying your emotions), emotions utilization (expressing your emotions in the right way), emotional understanding (understand your emotions as well as the emotions of others), emotions regulation (a person’s ability to respond and regulate their emotions), and empathy (understanding and being able to sense and understand the feelings of others, whether or not you yourself are feeling those same emotions or have ever felt those emotions before). The development of these skills helps support lower stress levels and better relationships with others, both in an individual’s personal life and their work life. These aspects can be taught at any point during a person’s lifetime, but the younger the individual is, the longer period of time this individual will have to develop and incorporate these skills in their lifetime. Also, although this may seem like something new to many, these skills are already being taught through practices that families utilize today such as building relationships, having open and clear communication with one another, and modeling how families themselves regulate their emotions. My work is dedicated to educating and supporting families interested in teaching their young children emotional intelligence to further build their children to success.Psycholog

Improving Motor Skills & Attention Span with Legos: Lego Group
No full textThe objective of this project was to improve autistic individuals’ motor skills and attention span with Lego activities. A group of 9 individuals were placed into 3 groups in order to gather data regarding their attention spans, to determine if any assistance was needed, and if they were able to follow the instructions of the building manuals. Each table had several sets of Legos and instruction manuals on how to build them, most of the sets were fairly simple so it would not be too challenging for some of the individuals. By the end of my project I found that the individuals’ attention spans had increased and the individuals needed little to no help building sets or reading through the instruction manual
Youth Outcomes in Various School Settings: Big Brothers Big Sisters Analysis of 2022 Matching
No full textThis study compares a public and private school within the Greater Boston area; The Thomas Edison and Sacred Heart Stem schools. Information was gathered through a database company called Salesforce. Within youth inquiries it shows evaluations recorded by volunteers, guardians, and youth who participate in this mentoring program. A randomized name generator was used to select the names of students of the Thomas Edison School because more matches were created at this school within 2022. Information on Salesforce is limited since everything is self-administered but after analyzing the results of strength and relationship evaluations (SOR) and guardian and youth (SEL) evaluations it was determined that there is an overall positive correlation of improvement in youth within six months

Straddling the South African Two-School System During the COVID-19 Pandemic—A Reflective Narrative of How One Student Teacher Traversed the Changing Education Landscape
Full text linkThe South African education system has been aptly described as a “two-school” education system. This description refers to one of the many legacies of apartheid, which resulted in one well-resourced school system that offers high quality education to one sector of the population, with the other under-resourced and generally struggling to achieve the same results. As part of my teacher training, I have worked in both systems. Straddling this dichotomous education system during the COVID-19 pandemic has given me valuable insights and has significantly contributed to how I envisage my career as a teacher. Through this narrative reflection I provide an account of key moments during my teaching practice module that contributed to my altered worldview. Entering the teaching profession during the COVID-19 pandemic proved very challenging, but ironically, it was this disruptive entry that has changed my worldview so that I now feel drawn to working in under-resourced schools
