Making supply chains great again : examining structural changes to US manufacturing supply chains
Purpose:
President Trump's tenure was accompanied by a series of protectionist measures that intended to reinvigorate US-based production and make manufacturing supply chains more “local”. Amidst these increasing institutional pressures to localise, and the business uncertainty that ensued, this study investigates the extent to which manufacturers reconfigured their supply bases.
Design/methodology/approach:
Bloomberg's Supply Chain Function (SPLC) is used to manually extract data about the direct suppliers of 30 of the largest American manufacturers in terms of market capitalisation. Overall, the raw data comprise 20,100 quantified buyer–supplier relationships that span seven years (2014–2020). The supply base dimensions of spatial complexity, spend concentration and buyer dependence are operationalised by applying appropriate aggregation functions on the raw data. The final dataset is a firm-year panel that is analysed using a random effect (RE) modelling approach and the conditional means of the three dimensions are plotted over time.
Findings:
Over the studied timeframe, American manufacturers progressively reduced the spatial complexity of their supply bases and concentrated their purchase spend to fewer suppliers. Contrary to the aims of governmental policies, American manufacturers increased their dependence on foreign suppliers and reduced their dependence on local ones.

The research provides insights into the dynamics of manufacturing supply chains as they adapt to shifting institutional demands
‘All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children should have access to the ASQ‐TRAK ’ : shared vision of an implementation support model for the ASQ‐TRAK developmental screener
Issue Addressed
The ASQ-TRAK, a strengths-based approach to developmental screening, has high acceptability and utility across varied Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander contexts. While substantive knowledge translation has seen many services utilise ASQ-TRAK, we now need to move beyond distribution and support evidence-based scale-up to ensure access. Through a co-design approach, we aimed to (1) understand community partners' perspectives of barriers and enablers to ASQ-TRAK implementation and (2) develop an ASQ-TRAK implementation support model to inform scale-up.
Methods
The co-design process had four phases: (i) partnership development with five community partners (two Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations); (ii) workshop planning and recruitment; (iii) co-design workshops; and (iv) analysis, draft model and feedback workshops.
Results
Seven co-design meetings and two feedback workshops with 41 stakeholders (17 were Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander), identified seven key barriers and enablers, and a shared vision – all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families have access to the ASQ-TRAK. Implementation support model components agreed on were: (i) ASQ-TRAK training, (ii) ASQ-TRAK support, (iii) local implementation support, (iv) engagement and communications, (v) continuous quality improvement and (vi) coordination and partnerships.
Conclusions
This implementation support model can inform ongoing processes necessary for sustainable ASQ-TRAK implementation nationally. This will transform the way services provide developmental care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, ensuring access to high quality, culturally safe developmental care
Phase transitions in biased opinion dynamics with 2-choices rule
We consider a model of binary opinion dynamics where one opinion is inherently `superior' than the other and social agents exhibit a `bias' towards the superior alternative. Specifically, it is assumed that an agent updates its choice to the superior alternative with probability irrespective of its current opinion and the opinions of the other agents. With probability it adopts the majority opinion among two randomly sampled neighbours and itself. We are interested in the time it takes for the network to converge to a consensus on the superior alternative. In a complete graph of size , we show that irrespective of the initial configuration of the network, the average time to reach consensus scales as when the bias parameter is sufficiently high, i.e., where is a threshold parameter that is uniquely characterised. When the bias is low, i.e., when , we show that the same rate of convergence can only be achieved if the initial proportion of agents with the superior opinion is above certain threshold . If this is not the case, then we show that the network takes time on average to reach consensus

Throughout its history, Operational Research has evolved to include a variety of methods, models and algorithms that have been applied to a diverse and wide range of contexts. This encyclopedic article consists of two main sections: methods and applications. The first aims to summarise the up-to-date knowledge and provide an overview of the state-of-the-art methods and key developments in the various subdomains of the field. The second offers a wide-ranging list of areas where Operational Research has been applied. The article is meant to be read in a nonlinear fashion. It should be used as a point of reference or first-port-of-call for a diverse pool of readers: academics, researchers, students, and practitioners. Advances in nowcasting economic activity : the role of heterogeneous dynamics and fat tails
A key question for households, firms, and policy makers is: how is the economy doing now? This paper develops a Bayesian dynamic factor model that allows for nonlinearities, heterogeneous lead–lag patterns and fat tails in macroeconomic data. Explicitly modeling these features changes the way that different indicators contribute to the real-time assessment of the state of the economy, and substantially improves the out-of-sample performance of this class of models. In a formal evaluation, our nowcasting framework beats benchmark econometric models and professional forecasters at predicting US GDP growth in real time
Liver sinusoidal cells eliminate blood-borne phage K1F
Phage treatment has regained attention due to an increase in multiresistant bacteria. For phage therapy to be successful, phages must reach their target bacteria in sufficiently high numbers. Blood-borne phages are believed to be captured by macrophages in the liver and spleen. Since liver sinusoids also consist of specialized scavenger liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs) and Kupffer cells (KCs), this study investigated the contribution of both cell types in the elimination of Escherichia coli phage K1Fg10b::gfp (K1Fgfp) in mice. Circulatory half-life, organ, and hepatocellular distribution of K1Fgfp were determined following intravenous administration. Internalization of K1Fgfp and effects of phage opsonization on uptake were explored using primary mouse and human LSEC and KC cultures. When inoculated with 107 virions, >95% of the total K1Fgfp load was eliminated from the blood within 20 min, and 94% of the total retrieved K1Fgfp was localized to the liver. Higher doses resulted in slower elimination, possibly reflecting temporary saturation of liver scavenging capacity. Phage DNA was detected in both cell types, with a KC:LSEC ratio of 12:1 per population following cell isolation. Opsonization with plasma proteins increased time-dependent cellular uptake in both LSECs and KCs in vitro. Internalized phages were rapidly transported along the endocytic pathway to lysosomal compartments. Reduced viability of intracellular K1Fgfp corroborated inactivation following endocytosis. This study is the first to identify phage distribution in the liver at the hepatocellular level, confirming clearance of K1Fgfp performed mostly by KCs with a significant uptake also in LSECs
Dataset to support : Polymorphism and Structural Variety in Sn(II) Carboxylate Coordination Polymers Revealed from Structure Solution of Microcrystals
The crystal structures of four coordination polymers constructed from Sn(II) and polydentate carboxylate ligands are reported. All are prepared under hydrothermal conditions in KOH or LiOH solutions (either water or methanol-water) at 130-180 °C and crystallize as small crystals, microns or less in size. Single-crystal structure solution and refinement are performed using synchrotron X-ray diffraction for two materials and using 3D electron diffraction (3DED) for the others. Sn2 (1,3,5-BTC)(OH), where 1,3,5-BTC is benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate, is a new polymorph of this composition and has a three-dimensionally connected structure with potential for porosity. Sn(H-1,3,5-BTC) retains a partially protonated ligand and has a 1D chain structure bound by hydrogen bonding via ─COOH groups. Sn(H-1,2,4-BTC) contains an isomeric ligand, benzene-1,2,4-tricarboxylate, and contains inorganic chains in a layered structure held by hydrogen bonding. Sn2 (DOBDC), where DOBDC is 2,5-dioxido-benzene-1,4-dicarboxylate, is a new polymorph for this composition and has a three-dimensionally connected structure where both carboxylate and oxido groups bind to the tin centers to create a dense network with dimers of tin. In all materials, the Sn centers are found in highly asymmetric coordination, as expected for Sn(II). For all materials phase purity of the bulk is confirmed using powder X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, and infrared spectroscopy
Typology of employers offering line manager training for mental health
Background Mental ill health has a high economic impact on society and employers. National and international policy advocates line manager (LM) training in mental health as a key intervention, but little is known about employer training provisions. Aims To explore the prevalence and characteristics of organizations that offer LM training in mental health. Methods Secondary analysis of existing longitudinal anonymised organizational-level survey data derived from computer-assisted telephone interview surveys collected in four waves (2020:1900 firms, 2021:1551, 2022:1904, 2023:1902) in England, before, during and after a global pandemic. Results The proportion of organizations offering LM training in mental health increased pre- to post-pandemic (2020:50%, 2023:59%) but 41% do not currently provide it. Logistic regression confirmed that LM training is more likely to be offered by large-sized enterprises, organizations with a larger proportion of employees who are younger (aged 25–49), female, disabled and from ethnic minority communities. Sector patterns were inconsistent, but in 2023, organizations from the ‘Hospitality’ and ‘Business Services’ sectors were more likely to provide LM training than other sectors. Conclusions Continued efforts are needed to increase the proportion of employers offering LM training in mental health, particularly small- to medium-sized enterprises, and organizations with predominantly male, White and/or older workforces

Funded by NERC Constructed for the Digital Environment, the report is a culmination of an intensive co-creation process and writing retreat that brought together experts in the field of environmental sensing to explore how to accelerate advancements in environmental sensing and sensor networks that acknowledge and respond to the interconnections between people, places, and ethics. The report emerges as a foundational document aimed at guiding future funding calls, stimulating innovation, and advocating for interdisciplinary research approaches
J-PLUS: Toward a homogeneous photometric calibration using Gaia BP/RP low-resolution spectra
Aims. We present the photometric calibration of the 12 optical passbands for the Javalambre Photometric Local Universe Survey (J-PLUS) third data release (DR3) comprising 1642 pointings of two square degrees each.
Methods. We selected nearly 1.5 million main sequence stars with a signal-to-noise ratio larger than ten in the 12 J-PLUS passbands and available low-resolution (R = 20–80) spectrum from the blue and red photometers (BP/RP) in Gaia DR3. We compared the synthetic photometry from BP/RP spectra with the J-PLUS instrumental magnitudes after correcting for the magnitude and color terms between both systems in order to obtain a homogeneous photometric solution for J-PLUS. To circumvent the current limitations in the absolute calibration of the BP/RP spectra, the absolute color scale was derived using the locus of 109 white dwarfs closer than 100 pc with a negligible interstellar extinction. Finally, the absolute flux scale was anchored to the Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System (Pan-STARRS) photometry in the r band.
Results. The precision of the J-PLUS photometric calibration estimated from duplicated objects observed in adjacent pointings and by comparison with the spectro-photometric standard star GD 153 is ~12 mmag in u, J0378, and J0395, and it is ~7 mmag in J0410, J0430, ɡ, J0515, r, J0660, i, J0861, and z. The estimated accuracy in the calibration along the surveyed area is better than 1% for all the passbands.
Conclusions. The Gaia BP/RP spectra provide a high-quality, homogeneous photometric reference in the optical range across the full sky in spite of their current limitations as an absolute reference. The calibration method for J-PLUS DR3 reaches an absolute precision and accuracy of 1% in the 12 optical filters within an area of 3284 square degrees
