    SAFETY CONFORMITY PREDICTION FOR A BOTTLING PROCESS PLANT: A MULTIPLE REGRESSION APPROACH

    Safety conformity is an industrial practice to obtain enhanced safety performance and improved worker-management-government relationships. In this paper, a novel method to model and predict the conformity of bottling process operations and activities to safety rules and accident prevention is presented. Inspired by the machine guarding literature in safety compliance, this research extends the regression model beyond the machine operations domain, to cover activities in beverage testing unit (BTU), shuttle vehicle flotilla (SVF), stockroom, and suppliers. Data from practice in a bottling plant in Nigeria demonstrates the model's effectiveness. The coefficients of determination (R2 = 0.8454, 0.3891, 0.8156, 1 and 0.8156), showed the predictive competence of the warehousing, manufacturing hallway (MH), BTU, SVF, and suppliers' variables, respectively. These R2 values were derived from computations and tabulated by the software program used, and BTU and suppliers' values for R2 were obtained as the same from the program software. The relative importance of the bottling segmental factors was evaluated through ANOVA. The bottling process data results revealed the most significant variables at (p<0.05; calculated probability).     PERFORMANCE OF THE PROBABILITY DISTRIBUTIONS FOR PLOTTING POSITIONS IN ESTIMATING THE MAXIMUM DISCHARGES OF ADHAIM RIVER

    In this study, the peak discharges of Adhaim River were plotted against their hydrologic years.Two probability distributions and five plotting positions formulas were fitted to the annualmaximum discharges AMD. The performances of the probability distributions with plottingposition formulas were evaluated using the coefficients of determination R2, root mean squareerrors RMSE, Mean Absolute Percent Error MAPE, and absolute differences between predictedand observed discharges. The annual maximum discharges of Adhaim River vary in magnitudefrom 111 to 3520 m3/sec for record periods. The mean of annual maximum discharges 753m3/sec. The Lognormal LN and Log-Person type III LP3 distributions have the highest R2 usingWeibull plotting position formula WPP of 0.992 and 0.989, respectively. The LN had minimumRMSE and MAPE of 69.13 and 7.3%, respectively, when conformed with California plottingposition CPP. The LP3 had minimum RMSE and MAPE of 93.6 and 6.5% respectively whenconformed with Chegadayev plotting position CHPP. The minimum absolute differences atreturn periods of 25, 50,100, and 200 years were obtained when LN conformed with Hazenplotting position HPP and when LP3 conformed with CPP.     Study The Effects Of Chronic Kidney Disease On The Level Of Thyroid Hormones In Iraqi Patients

    Chronic kidney disease is consider to be a major health issue which affecting high percent of population worldwide. This study attempted to determine the effects of chronic kidney disease on the function of thyroid gland by measuring its hormones levels . There were 70 subjects included in this study their age between 20 to 70 years divided into two groups, patients and control groups each one contain 35 persons. Blood was obtained from the all subjects for measuring the levels of thyroid hormones . There was increasing in the incidence of chronic kidney disease in the fifties of age as the results of this study revealed. The levels of thyroid hormones recorded significantly P≤0.05 decreasing in patients with chronic kidney disease when compared with healthy persons. For conclude, chronic kidney disease leads to significant changes in the levels of thyroid    hormones that need to be carefully interpreted in these patients

    Rheological and optical characterization of Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) - Polyethylene glycol (PEG) polymer blends

    Polymer blends of different concentrations for PVP-K30 and different additive weights of PEG8000 have been prepared as polymeric blends solutions. The rheological and optical properties of the blends samples have been investigated using Ostwald viscometer and Refractometer. The results showed that the density, shear, relative and specific viscosities are increases with the increasing of PVP concentration and additive weight of PEG. The optical constant values such as refractive index, reflectance, molar reflectance, coefficient of finesse and Brewster Angle are increase with the increasing of PVP concentration and additive weight of PEG while the critical angle has the revers behavior. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.31257/2018/JKP/2019/11020

    3D CFD SIMULATION AND EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF A WATER JET IMPINGEMENT

    To investigate the reaction forces produced by the change in momentum of a water jet, anexperimental and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) study are carried out. In the experiment,the water jet forces on a test horizontal hemispherical cup are measured. ANSYS CFXsimulation code is used to provide a 3D CFD simulation of a circular cross section water jetreleased from a nozzle and moves upward in the air before striking a horizontal hemisphericalcup and a flat plate. The progress in the CFD simulation within the last decade make it possibleto analyze and visualize the flow pattern of complex multiphase free surface fluid flow. Thesimulated forces of the vertical water jet against a horizontal hemispherical cup using ANSYSCFX code are compared with the experimental forces generated by the water jet as it strikes ahemispherical cup. A good agreement is found in the CFD results compared with theexperimental results. 21.649 % was the maximum percent difference recorded at 0.245 kg/secflowrate and 0.484 % was the minimum percent difference at 0.368 kg/sec flowrate.HTTP://DX.DOI.ORG/10.30572/2018/KJE/10040
