Job Evaluation and Pay Equity agreed between USW Local 1998 and Unicersity of Tronto under The Pay Equity Act of Ontario
Get PDFThe USW Local 1998 concluded “Groundbreaking Job Evaluation and Pay Equity Agreement with University April 20, 2011” that conformed to the Pay Equity Act of Ontario. Their employer is University of Toronto. In this article, I confirm the contents of the “agreement” and consider concretely about the SES/U job evaluation system, and the job classification, the pay system based on it that USW Local 1998 and the university developed jointly.
The findings is that the pay scale based on pay Equity (Equal pay for work of equal value) is very clear and fair for both female and male employees. I intend to make good use of these results of research in practices of pay equity in Japan.departmental bulletin pape

The improvement of the quality of the process and structure of infant and toddler care is discussed. The author considers the importance of continuity in childcare and primary caregiving to be the basis for its development, and focuses on infant and toddler care in Japan. Improving the structure of infant and toddler care is essential for improving the quality of the process. Support for Children with Communication Disorders in Resource Rooms 2 ―A Case Study of a Child with Selective Mutism―
Get PDFIn instructing children with selective mutism in the field of education, it is necessary to conduct a multi-faceted assessment of each child to enhance their power of expression in a way that suits them in terms of their ability, interest, concern, willingness and motivation.
In this study, the goal is to assess the effectiveness of instruction by reporting the progress of a case where three teachers, including one of the authors of this paper, were involved in the instruction in a resource room of a child “G”, aged 6, who has selective mutism.
G has a level of intellectual development appropriate for her age, but was highly anxious and could not speak in a group. In the resource room, small-group “communication” and “physical exercise” programs were combined with individualized instruction, and were conducted once or twice a week. The instruction entailed physical exercises and painting, which G is good at. Teachers conducted communication skill training by acting in short skits.
As a result of yearlong comprehensive instruction, the symptoms of selective mutism declined; G could express her thoughts more actively than before. The instruction seemed to have had some effect. However, at the beginning of the second part of the year, G could no longer attend regular class. Thus those assisting in her recovery have more work to do.departmental bulletin pape
“Examples of Truly Original Writing”: The Influence of Children’s Composition as Advocated in Akai tori
Get PDFThis study note explores the criteria Miekichi Suzuki, the chief editor of the children’s literature magazine Akai tori （launched in 1918）, used in selecting essays composed by children. Little attention has been paid to the way Suzuki contrasted vulgar journalism with what he considered ideal compositions. Juxtaposing the standards for children’s compositions that appeared in Akai tori with those of educators active since the early Taisho period such as Enosuke Ashida reveals that their approaches are quite different. The author surmises that Suzuki’s purpose was to protect children from the “malign” influence of journalism and to draw children to the realm of real art in writing and to establish a canon that could serve as a benchmark for children’s writing in modern Japan.
