Through a Disciplinary Lens: Adapting the Framework for Psychology Students and Subject Librarians
The ACRL EBSS Psychology Committee began creating a disciplinary specific companion document to the Framework in 2016. In 2022, the draft document in the form of a LibGuide was completed. The APA Guidelines 2.0, the APA Ethical Principles, and the CPA Code were key foundational resources. The current Psychology Companion Document has several steps remaining before it is finalized, and the authors invite comments and suggestions to assist in that process. Both the APA Guidelines 2.0 and the APA Ethical Principles are also under revision. As those documents change to reflect current thinking in the discipline, the companion document will in turn be updated. Likewise, the Psychology Companion Document is a living, breathing document that will guide psychology librarians as they teach principles of information literacy in psychology

We Can Protect the "Waters of the United States" as Long as They Stay out of the Hydrological Cycle
The author critiques the limitations of current legal definitions under the Clean Water Act. She argues that recent judicial interpretations, particularly following Sackett v. EPA, narrow the scope of federal water protections by disregarding the realities of the hydrological cycle. The article highlights the scientific disconnect between legal standards and how water actually moves through the environment. Sutton contends that meaningful protection of U.S. waters requires a more integrated, science-based approach that acknowledges connectivity across surface and groundwater systems. Application of chromatography and mass spectrometry in One Health: Detecting therapeutic analytes and drug residues in complex biological and food matrices.
The One Health three pillars are interconnected and inseparable. Investigations across these pillars depend on analytical methods that are both sensitive and accurate. This dissertation presents three liquid chromatography–based methods that address animal feed quality, food safety, drug exposure safety, and ecosystem health, which are central challenges within the One Health framework.
Chapter I is an introduction to the One Health concept and how analytical chemistry can impact several areas within One Health, especially when applying advanced analytical tools for analyzing and measuring samples such as food and drugs. It also highlights the role of analytical chemistry in addressing key One Health challenges, including feed quality, drug residues, and the safety of therapeutic peptides.
Chapter II presents a novel reversed-phase liquid chromatographic method for the simultaneous quantification of carvacrol, eugenol, cinnamaldehyde, capsaicin, and dihydrocapsaicin in animal feed matrices. The acetone extraction protocol developed for this study yielded recoveries greater than 90 % for all five additives. Separation is accomplished on a C18 column with a 25-minute gradient, achieving peak resolutions greater than 1.0 and column efficiencies of 500,000–2,000,000 theoretical plates m-¹. UV detection at 210 nm provides limits of detection of approximately 1 µg g-¹ and limits of quantitation of around 4 µg g-¹ for each analyte. Among the commercial feeds tested, capsaicin (0.20 w/w %) and dihydrocapsaicin (0.05 w/w %) were present at relatively constant levels, whereas cinnamaldehyde, eugenol, and carvacrol varied considerably between products. The method offers a rapid, sensitive tool for quality control assessment of phytogenic feed additives and will support emerging targeted nutrition strategies to improve ruminant and poultry performance. Chapter III describes a rapid, on line micro volume flow through dialysis probe designed for sample preparation in veterinary drug residue analysis. This study emphasizes the importance of efficient, green sample preparation methods that reduce laboratory consumables waste and solvent consumption. The introduced dialysis probe, coupled to liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC–MS) systems, allows automated, high-throughput analysis. Probe performance was validated by spiking and analyzing diverse veterinary drug tissue homogenates, yielding 97 % sensitivity and 95 % specificity. The method effectively removed cellular debris and particulates, ensuring sample integrity and protecting the LC–MS instrument, while using minimal solvent per sample. Recoveries ranged from 27 % to 77 % for multiple analytes, demonstrating the probe’s potential for veterinary drug residue analysis in accordance with green chemistry principles. This workflow improved environmental impact and operational efficiency, presenting a viable alternative to conventional sample preparation methods in regulatory and research applications for both animal and human health.
Chapter IV applies a high-resolution LC–MS method to quantify semaglutide transfer into human milk. This topic is of growing concern as postpartum mothers and their healthcare providers face limited data on medication safety during lactation. This study investigated semaglutide transmission into milk to safeguard both lactating mothers and breast fed infants. The InfantRisk Center Human Milk Biorepository provided milk samples from eight women collected at 0, 12, and 24 h after semaglutide administration. Semaglutide was extracted by protein precipitation in methanol, followed by chromatographic separation. Linear calibration curves ranged from 2.5 to 30 ng mL⁻¹, with a limit of detection of 1.7 ng mL⁻¹ and a limit of quantification (LLOQ) of 5.7 ng mL⁻¹. Semaglutide was not detected in any milk sample. To ensure safety, the worst-case relative infant dose (RID) was calculated using the LLOQ as the milk concentration while accounting for semaglutide’s bioavailability and long-acting dose profile. The maximum projected RID was 1.26 %, far below the standard 10 % safety threshold. Although questions remain regarding long-term infant outcomes, maternal nutrient intake, and milk composition, our findings suggest that semaglutide concentrations in human milk are unlikely to pose clinical concerns for breast fed infants. These results help healthcare providers make informed decisions about postpartum therapeutic interventions. This study directly affects maternal and infant health.
Collectively, these studies employ advanced liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry techniques to generate critical data on animal nutrition, veterinary drug residues, and maternal–infant drug transmission. The analytical tools developed herein directly and indirectly benefit all three pillars of One Health—human, animal, and ecosystem—thereby supporting their collective well-being
Computational Profiling of Monoterpenoid Phytochemicals: Insights for Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Design Strategies
Monoterpenoids are a structurally diverse class of natural products with a long-standing history of therapeutic use. Despite their promising bioactivities, their clinical development has been limited by dose-dependent toxicities, poor pharmacokinetics, and suboptimal drug-like properties. In this work, a comprehensive in silico pipeline was employed to evaluate 1175 monoterpenoid compounds retrieved from ChEBI, aiming to identify structurally diverse candidates that possess favorable drug-like characteristics. A total of 54 molecular parameters were calculated using thirteen computational tools, covering physicochemical parameters, ADMET profiles, and toxicological risk assessments. Stepwise filtering was employed to retain only compounds meeting stringent thresholds across multiple domains, followed by chemoinformatic analysis. Structure–activity relationship mapping and target prediction were subsequently conducted to explore mechanistic plausibility. This workflow led to the identification of seven top-performing monoterpenoids that exhibited ideal physicochemical profiles, high gastrointestinal absorption, low predicted toxicity, and full compliance with medicinal chemistry rules. Notably, target prediction revealed a convergence on GPCRs, enzymatic and nuclear receptors, highlighting potential anti-inflammatory and neuromodulatory effects. The identification of conserved pharmacophores across selected scaffolds further reinforces their translational potential. Conceptualization of Proactive Academic Advisement Framework: A Latent Variable Structural Equation Modeling Approach
Faculty academic advising has received less research attention compared to contemporary professional advising. This study conceptualizes and empirically examines a proactive academic advisement framework (PAAF) grounded in self-determination theory. Using Structural Equation Modeling with latent variables, the research investigates how academic advising practices that support these needs contribute to positive advising outcomes in higher education settings. The researcher collected data from 201 graduate students at a large university in the southwestern United States. A bifactor confirmatory factor analysis indicated an acceptable fit of the model to the data. SEM was used to analyze direct and indirect pathways from advisor quality to learning outcomes through academic motivation. The study tested the proposed PAAF model for its ability to explain how advisors foster self-determined behaviors in students and its relationship to academic motivation and learning outcomes in the advising context. Findings provide empirical evidence for a theoretically informed, student-centered advising framework that promotes holistic student development, enhances motivation, and supports retention. In general, the findings of this study support the measurement properties and the hypothesized factor structure of explaining advisor quality fostering self-determined behaviors in students, as well as learning outcomes, in a sample of graduate students. The study contributes to the ongoing discourse on students' success by offering a knowledge-based PAAF, validated model that institutions can adopt to improve academic advising practices, particularly at the graduate level. Moreover, the model's structure supports the development of interventions and training that focus on improving the overall quality of advising rather than narrowly targeting subdivisions that may not reliably distinguish themselves from broader advising experience
Sustainability Claims and Third-party Indexes in Apparel: Their Impacts on Consumers.
Applying impression management theory, this paper examined the impact of fashion brands' sustainability claims and third-party sustainability index on consumers' perceptions and attitudes. In this investigation, an experimental study was performed in two parts. The results showed fashion brands' environmental sustainability claims (i.e., subdued and puffery) influenced consumers' perceived sustainability. Contrary to this study's hypothesis, the effect of environmental sustainability claims on consumer suspicion was insignificant. Furthermore, the results indicated that consumers' perceived sustainability had a significant positive impact on purchase intention and eWOM (electric word of mouth); which relationships were negatively moderated by suspicion. In part two, after participants were exposed to fashion brands’ sustainability claims, they were presented with either low or high ratings by a third-party sustainability index. The results uncovered a significant effect of the third-party sustainability index ratings on consumers’ perceived sustainability and perceived deception. Moreover, this study found that perceived sustainability and perceived deception significantly influenced consumers' attitudes, which in turn positively affected brand equity and eWOM. Additionally, a multi-group analysis on gender was performed; however, no differences were found between males and females on these relationships. The findings of this study offer valuable insights for researchers, fashion brands, sustainability index providers, and policymakers
Teacher Effectiveness in Traditional and Non-traditional Traditional Teacher Preparation
This study examines the effectiveness of traditional and non-traditional teacher preparation programs through the lens of Moustakas' phenomenological analysis, a method highly regarded for its ability to uncover profound insights into lived experiences. The study employs a systematic approach that begins with the compilation of relevant statements gathered from participants, followed by a rigorous process of grouping these statements into core themes that emerge from the data. Central to this analysis is the development of both textural and structural descriptions of the phenomenon, allowing for a nuanced understanding of how each participant experiences teacher preparation. The framework highlights the significance of open coding, which facilitates the identification of sub-themes, further organizing the data and enhancing the richness of the findings. Moreover, this study places a strong emphasis on the careful selection of representative excerpts. These excerpts serve to illuminate the essence of participants' experiences and perspectives, ensuring that their voices are authentically represented in the analysis. By adopting this structured methodology, the research achieves a dual purpose: it conducts an in-depth exploration of individual experiences while also synthesizing these insights to capture the shared essence of the phenomenon being studied. Ultimately, this comprehensive understanding enables a critical evaluation of the effectiveness of different teacher preparation programs, contributing valuable knowledge to the field of education and informing future practices in teacher training
Enhancing Teacher Efficacy Through Collegial Mentoring: Effects on Novice Educators in a Fast-Growing School District
This dissertation examines the impact of structured collegial mentoring on novice teacher efficacy, instructional growth, and retention within a high-needs public elementary school. Through a mixed-methods action research design, the study examines how focused mentoring cycles, combined with intensive monitoring strategies and differentiated feedback, impact the professional development of early-career teachers.
Quantitative data were collected through disaggregated State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) performance results, exit tickets, and pre- and post-intervention assessments. Qualitative data were gathered through structured observations, mentor reflections, and mentee exit interviews.
Thematic coding revealed that mentoring substantially improved novice teachers’ instructional planning, classroom management, and responsiveness to student needs. Participants reported increased self-efficacy, heightened instructional confidence, and stronger emotional resilience as a result of ongoing feedback, modeling, and collaborative planning structures. Moreover, mentoring significantly reinforced mentees’ commitment to remaining in the profession, with retention intentions notably higher among mentored teachers than broader attrition trends.
The findings underscore the critical role of relationally driven, data-informed mentoring models in closing opportunity gaps, fostering collective teacher efficacy, and supporting campus improvement efforts. Implications for practice include protected mentoring time, embedded coaching cycles, and differentiated support structures for novice teachers.
Recommendations for future research highlight the importance of longitudinal studies to measure the sustained impact of mentoring programs on teacher retention, student achievement, and professional growth trajectories over time
