    Exploring the Effectiveness of Visual Easter Eggs (VEEs) in Social Media Advertising

    [This] study explores the effectiveness of Visual Easter Eggs (VEEs) in social media advertising, focusing on their impact on viewer perceptions of novelty, informativeness (message usefulness), and message enjoyment. In the fast-paced digital world, ads must quickly grab attention. VEEs, subtle hidden messages embedded within ads, use novelty and surprise to engage viewers. However, their success relies on balance: overly prominent VEEs lose their charm, while overly hidden ones may be missed. This research examines how optimizing VEE prominence, placement, reference type, and ad complexity can enhance attention without overloading cognitive capacity, guided by the Limited Capacity Model for Mediated Message Processing (LC4MP) and Cognitive Load Theory (CLT). Two experiments were conducted to test these effects. Study 1 explored how VEE prominence (high vs. low) and placement (central vs. gridline) impact bottom-up attention, measuring novelty, informativeness, enjoyment, and attention allocation with heatmaps. Study 2 focused on top-down attention by varying ad complexity (high vs. low) and reference type (direct vs. indirect) to analyze viewer perceptions and message enjoyment. Results from Study 1 showed that centrally placed, high-prominent VEEs enhanced novelty and informativeness but required careful balancing to avoid overload. Study 2 found that low-complexity ads with direct references increased enjoyment and informativeness, while high-complexity ads boosted novelty but reduced enjoyment. Overall, the findings suggest that VEEs can enhance ad engagement and brand perception when aligned with viewers’ cognitive processes. This study offers practical guidance for advertisers on balancing VEE visibility and complexity to create effective social media ads. Future research should investigate VEE effectiveness in other formats, like interactive or video ads, and account for individual differences such as brand familiarity and viewer interest

    Rapid and low-temperature synthesis of MoAlB MAB phase by using stress-induced Al-particles

    Currently, MoAlB particles are produced at 1000°C and higher temperatures. In this manuscript, we report the rapid synthesis of MoAlB by altering the stress of Al particles to affect Al reactivity. The Al particles were purposefully stress-altered to reduce their threshold for reaction. The stress-altering process consisted of annealing followed by quenching of the aluminum powder. The combined process caused a reaction at a lower temperature between Mo, B, and Al to form MoAlB. The stress-altering of Al particles (i.e., Al [TT-treated]) was effective in producing >95 wt.% MoAlB after reaction at only 700°C for 10 min, a significant reduction in temperature. Based on these results, we can further project that this process can be used for manufacturing Al-based compositions at significantly lower temperatures
