    ICE HOCKEY DATABASE SCHEMA DESIGN: FOR NATIONAL TEAM\u27S BIOMECHANICAL ANALYSIS

    This study presented database schema to manage ice hockey data shown in official record of World Championships. We selected data fields to design database schema considering which fields were contributing to the victory. We also sorted all fields into six tables to reflect the elements of ice hockey games; Game Information, Team Information, Offensice Stats, Defence Stats, Face-off Stats, Time On Ice Stats. This study was a prior research designing database schema in which the analysis of ice hockey official record is used to advance from statistical models to data science techniques. After storing raw data pre-processed into the database, researcher can analyze biomechanically to improve performance

    BEHAVIOUR OF THE POLE IN POLE VAULT

    This study clarified behavior of the pole during vaulting. Eight male vaulters (4.60 m-5.77 m: personal best record) vaulted over a closs bar with run-up and pole in the same set up as competitions. Three-dimensional coordinates of reflective markers attached on body and the pole were collected by a motion capture system (250Hz). The results showed: (1) the height of the upper tip of the pole was temporarily lower than the instant of pole plant (PP) between PP and maximum pole bending (MPB) for the top three participants who recorded the highest maximum height; (2) the turning angle at MPB showed positive values (35.2 ± 9.21°) for all participants. The results of this study suggested that participants vaulted with individual vaulting styles and it was effective to rotate the pole around the vertical axis, in order to move vaulter‘s body more vertically between MPB and pole straight (PS) and prevent the body from getting too close the bar at PS

    A COMPARISON OF PACING STRATEGY BETWEEN INTERNATIONAL AND PAKISTANI 100-M SWIMMERS

    The purpose of this study was to determine, based on the stroking time recorded in a 100-m swimming competition, whether elite international 100-m swimmers have the same pacing strategy as the Pakistani swimmers or not. Based on a video data, three different levels of performance were analyzed i.e. Finalists (G1, n=32) from the European Championship, 2012; Medalists (G2, n=12) and Non-medalists (G3, n=20) from the Pakistan National Swimming Championship, 2014. For the current analysis each stroking distance was divided into two sections (i.e. before and after the 25m mark). The average speed of each section (ST1, ST2, ST3 and ST4) was quantified in order to depict pacing strategy. Results showed even-positive pacing (1.75 ± 0.17 m/s) towards the end of the race in G1; whereas, variable speed pacing was observed in both G2 (1.42 ± 0.26 m/s) and G3 (1.21 ± 0.28 m/s). Based on these findings it is proposed to encourage an efficient pace strategy for 100-m swimmers

    KINEMATIC ANALYSIS OF THE START FOR WORLD-CLASS SINGLE LUGE ATHLETES

    The purpose of this study was to kinematically analyse the luge start motion for world-class single luge athlete at an official competition. Thirteen male luge athletes were videotaped and analysed with the three-dimensional DLT method at the World Luge Championship. Athletes were assigned to two groups (fast or slow) based on their early start time. At the start bar release, the fast group showed significantly larger system CG velocity (4.3 ± 0.1 m/s, p \u3c 0.05) than the slow group. The backward system CG velocity of the fast group tended to be larger (-2.8 ± 0.2 m/s vs. -2.6 ± 0.3 m/s, ES = 0.80), and the athletes of the fast group rotated the arms move medially and extended the elbow joint more than the slow group

    INFLUENCE OF TRUNK MODEL DoF ON SHOULDER KINEMATICS IN JAVELIN THROWING - A CASE STUDY

    A case study was conducted to clarify the influence of different body-models and modelling approaches on shoulder joint kinematics. Therefore, a single subject performed a javelin throw. The recorded movement was analyzed using two different modeling approaches using two different body models each. Results from the two different body models are highly comparable, while comparability of model approach specific results depend on the movement direction. Source of the difference between movement directions may be the model specific location of center of rotation in the shoulder joint

    Low back pain (LBP) is the most prevalent injury in rowing. The high use of ergometers have been associated win increased LBP and sliding ergometers has proposed to reduce this stress. The purpose of this study was to examine the lumbar flexion angles on fixed and sliding ergometers versus on water conditions. Four elite female adult rowers volunteered for this study and completed a 1,000 meter maximal test on the stationary and fixed ergometers and then on water. Lumbar curvature (% flexion) was calculated) for the first 0.47 s following the catch position. Standardized mean differences (effect size) were calculated to examine differences in %ROM over time for each condition and between conditions. Results found that fixed rowers ergometers induced the greatest amount if lumbar flexion, with some reduction for sliding ergometers compared to on water

    THE EFFECTS OF SUSPENDED WEIGHT RESISTANCE ON AGILITY IN COLLEGIATE ATHLETES

    Instability resistance training techniques are commonly used to increase athletic performance. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of performing the squat exercise with suspended weight within a six-week resistance training program on agility in collegiate male athletes. Thirty-two male collegiate baseball players were randomly assigned to a suspended or conventional resistance training group. They completed the T-test agility test before and after a six-week resistance training program. The suspended group had weight plates hanging below the barbell for the squat exercise. A repeated measures ANOVA was used to assess improvements in performance within groups and between groups. The T-test agility times for both groups significantly decreased from pre- to post-testing, but there were no significant differences between groups

    ASSOCIATION OF CHANGES IN SPATIOTEMPORAL VARIABLES AT EACH STEP WITH 100-M SPRINT PERFORMANCE IN PREADOLESCENT SPRINTERS

    The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of acceleration and changes in spatiotemporal variables at each step with 100-m sprint performance in preadolescent sprinters. Twenty-six boys performed 100-m sprints, and their spatiotemporal variables were measured at each step. Acceleration was negatively correlated with the 100-m sprint time from the 1st to 21st step. The rates of change in step frequency were positively correlated with acceleration at the 2nd and 3rd step. Posterior to 3rd step, rates of change in step length were positively correlated with acceleration. The results suggest that the acceleration caused by increase in step frequency and step length up to reaching to the maximal sprint velocity is effective for improving the 100-m sprint time

    INSTEP KICK TECHNQIUE DOES NOT ALTER FOLLOWING SELF-PACED EXERCISE

    The purpose of this study was to determine whether amateur soccer players alter their instep technique in response to self-paced exercise. Comparison of the dominant (D) and non-dominant limbs (ND) was also carried out. Twelve male amateur soccer players performed 10 consecutive trials of instep kick for both lower limbs, prior to and following the completion of a 30-minute self-paced treadmill running protocol. Three-dimensional ground reaction forces and kinematic data were recorded during each instep. Only a minimal change in movement technique during the instep-kick self-paced exercise were demonstrated suggest that players more sensitive to fatigue effects during ND-instep compared to D-instep. This was due to lower limb dominance bias, with lower skill proficiency for the performance of ND-instep
