Effects of Planning and Reflection on College Students Well-being and Self-efficacy
College students are faced with many stressors such as; academics, finances, athletic commitments, and maintaining relations. The present quasi-experiment looks at how planning and reflection could positively affect student\u27s wellbeing and self-efficacy when faced with daily stressors. Previous research suggests planning can increase goal achievement and relieve anxiety. Three college level sociology classes were used in the quasi-experiment, one as a control and the other two as an experimental group. All students were given a pre/posttest consisting of questions about demographics, well-being, general self-efficacy, and planning/reflection practices. The intervention of the experimental group consisted of the use of a customized daily planner/ weekly reflection design for six weeks. The students in the experimental group choose from four different planners created by students in SO308; they also did six weekly Emotional Intelligence seminars. The control groups kept their normal routines and did not receive any intervention. It is expected that if the experimental group uses the planner and reflection effectively throughout the six weeks, they will have a higher post/pre-test score change in their well-being and self-efficacy compared with the control group. The hypothesis will be tested using ANOVA through SPSS. Due to COVID-19 there may be an overall decrease in the student\u27s well-being, but the hypothesis holds. It is our expectation that reflection and planning may lighten the negative impact of the pandemic
INVESTIGATING INDICATOR ASSOCIATIONS AND USABILITY CHARACTERISTICS FOR MEASURING CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE RISK FACTORS IN CHILDREN
Purpose: This study examined the relationship between various indicators of CVD risk in children in order to determine the most efficient and useful set of measurements to characterize CVD risk. Method: A total of 354 children (193 girls and 161 boys; age: 9-12 years) participated in the (S)Partners for Health Project from 2010 to 2018 were included in this study. Blood pressure, lipids, anthropometric measurements, and cardiorespiratory fitness were obtained from the children. Usability characteristics were based on the time of obtaining data, time of training, price, and participant likeability for each measurement. Descriptive statistics, variable level correlations, and factor analysis were used to determine the most useful variables to characterize CVD risk. Results: Weight, mean arterial pressure, total cholesterol/high-density lipoprotein ratio, total cholesterol, and cardiorespiratory fitness were included as the CVD risk factors that contained the most useful information. The Measurement Usefulness Index revealed weight had a higher value, which indicates a measure that is easy to assess and significantly associated with CVD risk. Conclusion: The Measurement Usefulness Index is an important tool that future studies can use to design assessment protocols. The results allow researchers and clinicians to make more informed decisions about what indicators to include in the CVD risk assessment, based on both statistical and usability characteristics. Future studies on metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular risk should consider and examine the usability of the variables included
Plant Medicine: The Use of Medicinal Plants as Green Manures in the Treatment of Streptomyces scabies Infection and Potato Scab Disease
Potato scab disease is caused by the pathogen Streptomyces scabies and leads to significant crop losses annually worldwide. There is growing public and scientific concern regarding the human and environmental safety with the use of many pesticides and current disease control measures. In lieu of this, the use of medicinal plant species as organic green manure treatments against potato scab disease was evaluated in field studies. Green manure applications of calendula (Calendula officinalis resina) and comfrey (Symphytum officinale) simultaneous to potato (Solanum tuberosum) planting in field studies were evaluated for scab reduction qualities. Treatments were designed to mimic home garden/family farm type operations and were applied as a single layer of rough chopped plant material coverage directly along with potato tubers within the planted rows. These treatments consisted of calendula, comfrey, and a calendula/comfrey mixture. In pilot study, treatments of both calendula and comfrey showed potent potato scab disease reductions of approximately 20%. The use of comfrey as a green manure increased total potato production by 24%. Follow-up field study using comfrey as a green manure showed similar results with an overall decrease in scab disease of 18.8% and demonstrated increased harvest yields. Results of this experiment suggest the use of these green manures as a feasible, effective, organic means of potato scab control and warrant further research into the use of these and other medicinal plants in the treatment plant disease

This thesis seeks to explore the relationship between language, traumatic memory, and identity. Through a cross-genre creative style of writing and scholarship, the writer engages with trauma theory, performative language theory, psychoanalysis, and literature in order to illuminate how language, in its various forms, is the key to self-reclamation after a traumatic event terrorizes the body and mind. Additionally, through the lens of personal narrative, the writer investigates how relationships with language, the reverberations of trauma, and the tumultuous motion of our formative years can affect the development of identity by way of memory. The scope of the narrative illustrates a journey through traumatic memory and an investigation of critical theory, while also employing the language-based framework for recovery

Through poetry, ideas on maternal anxieties, matrilineal relationships, human body donations to science, and display are all discussed. MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE ACHILLES TENDON IN RUNNERS WITH TENDINOPATHY: A PILOT STUDY
The aim of this study was to compare the dimensions of Achilles tendon, Achilles tendon moment arm and foot lever ratio between runners with tendinopathy and healthy control runners. We paired 12 runners diagnosed with baseline tendinopathy with 12 healthy control runners. The dimensions of Achilles tendon, Achilles tendon moment arm and foot lever ratio were measured using kinematic analysis and ultrasound imaging. Based on the parametric paired-samples T-Test, we compared the dependent variables measured on the affected lower limb. No differences were found between the groups for Achilles tendon length, Achilles tendon moment arm and foot lever ratio. Runners diagnosed with tendinopathy had thicker Achilles tendons than healthy control runners
IDENTIFICATION AND CORRECTION OF INEFFICIENCIES DURING ELITE COMPETITIVE SWIMMING
Olympic Games and World Championship swimming events are often not won by the fastest swimmer. In many events the free swimming speed of many of the competitors is almost identical, however it is the better starter in sprint events and the better turner in distance events who is victorious. The authors of this paper worked for over twenty years with analysis systems for starts and turns in elite swimming at the Australian Institute of Sport and over the last six years have developed, with the Kistler company, a commercial swim start and turn analysis system to assess elite swimmers. This paper will discuss inefficiencies in the starts and turns that were found to be commonly identified in elite swimmers and then state how these inefficiencies in performance may be rectified
CHANGES IN LOWER EXTREMITY BIOMECHANICS DUE TO A BASKETBALL-SPECIFIC FATIGUE PROTOCOL
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a basketball-specific fatigue protocol on lower extremity biomechanics during a jump-stop task. The subjects consisted of twelve male collegiate basketball athletes free of lower extremity injury. Participants performed six trials of jump-stop task. A basketball-specific fatigue protocol was performed and the biomechanical characteritics of lower extremities were conducted by paired t-tests with the significance level set at 0.05. The specific fatigue protocol caused a reduction of hip abduction and posterior GRF. An increase of approach speed, knee flexion angle and vertical GRF was also shown during post-fatigue condition . There was no difference on other variables caused by fatigue. The basketball-specific fatigue protocol altered lower extremity biomechanics during jump-stop tasks
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE INWARD PULL MOTION AND BODY MOVEMENT DURING THE DOWNSWING PHASE IN GOLF SWING
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the inward pull motion and body movement to increase the maximum velocity of the clubhead during the downswing phase in men’s driver shot. Four male professional and five male amateur golfers were volunteered as subjects (age = 37.2 ± 14.8 yrs, 1.73 ± 0.05 m, 67.5 ± 7.1 kg). A 10-camera (250 Hz) VICON system was used in an indoor motion analysis facility to capture 3D trajectories of 57 reflective markers attached to each golfer’s body and the driver. The joint force about the grip, the left hand’s radius of curvature, and the Cardan angles of the pelvis and the thorax were calculated during the downswing phase in men’s driver shot. The results revealed that the pelvis and the thorax were bending toward the right side (Y-axis) just before impact. These movements lead to elevation in the left shoulder and consequently the left hand moves inward from the orbit of the hub path just before impact. On that occasion, it is important the thorax is facing the front (Z-axis) to elevate the left shoulder along the swing plane
