The study is based on the shared story and visual-textual reflection on an experience carried out at the Condeduque Center for Contemporary Culture in Madrid with family groups belonging to the Chinese community of this city. Its celebration was possible at the invitation of Xirou Xiao, cultural mediator and director of Tian Ma Xing Kong, a project designed to weave networks with neighbourhood organisations in the immediate environment and to carry out a contextualised artistic mediation in a socio-cultural institution that favours community actions in its programme. The objective is to narrate and signify an experience of artistic and intercultural mediation from the participation of mixed families (Chinese Spanish) and the collaboration of university students of Social Education. It was conceived as a community art action framed in the original proposal of the Installations for play, a playful context and intersubjective space of relationship configured with specific objects offered in a transformable space inspired by the aesthetics of contemporary art. The account of the event and the following research proposal are presented through documentation constructed through image-word narratives that recognize and give meaning to the symbolic and relational actions that took place in the encounter as a manifestation that generates metaphors of life with others

Conclusions highlight theater’s potential as a comprehensive educational tool, although there is a need to establish a more robust epistemological framework for its implementation in educational contexts

Discovery of materials for solar thermochemical hydrogen combining machine learning, computational chemistry, experiments and system simulations

    Get PDF
This study integrates first-principles calculations, computational chemistry, system simulations, experiments, and machine learning to identify redox perovskite oxides for solar thermochemical hydrogen production. Using two random forest regressions and one classification model, the approach predicts materials" stability and the enthalpy of oxygen vacancy formation (Deltaho), a critical property for selecting materials for thermochemical hydrogen production. B-site composition significantly influences Deltaho predictions. The methodology led to the discovery of Ba0.875Ca0.125Zr0.875Mn0.125O3 (BCZM), which reduces at temperatures up to 250 °C lower than CeO2 and is expected to outperform other perovskites in water splitting. However, CeO2 remains the benchmark for solar thermochemical hydrogen production. The combined use of machine learning and DFT calculations refined 4ho predictions and provided insights into experimental results. This framework not only enhances database creation for material screening but also establishes a novel approach for perovskite discovery for hydrogen production applications

Role of calpains in uremia-related functional and structural muscle changes: protective effect of calpastatin overexpression

20 p.Sarcopenia, the progressive loss of muscle mass and strength, is a common complication in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). This condition arises from a combination of factors including reduced physical activity, insufficient protein intake, hyperphosphatemia, chronic inflammation, and uremia itself; however, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. Proteolysis in skeletal muscle is primarily controlled by the ubiquitin–proteasome system, autophagy–lysosome system, and calpains (CAPNs) cysteine proteases, which degrade structural proteins and mediate cell signaling. This study aims to investigate the role of CAPNs in CKD-associated muscle deterioration. CKD was induced in mice through an adenine-rich diet for 2, 4 and 6 weeks. The involvement of CAPNs in CKD-related sarcopenia was assessed using mice that overexpressed the CAPNs endogenous inhibitor, calpastatin (CAST). Gastrocnemius muscle strength, structural integrity, and function were evaluated. Mice with CKD showed elevated CAPNs, particularly CAPN2, expression and activity in the gastrocnemius, in parallel with significant muscle deterioration, including strength loss, structural damage, and impaired muscle performance. Overexpression of CAST prevented muscle strength loss, improved muscle function and structure without affecting renal function, and reversed fibrosis, inflammation and adipogenesis expression markers. Targeting CAPN2 could be a promising therapeutic strategy to mitigate muscle damage and improve physical performance in CKD patients.

Introduction: Dyspareunia (pain during penetrative intercourse) is a health problema that negatively affects women´s quality of life, mental health, and sexual satisfaction. It is a multifactorial problema, but at the musculoskeletal level, myofascial pain síndrome is being targeted as a determining cause, associated with increased pain and decreased lubrication and arousal. Despite advances in research, there are still limitations to determining the effectiveness of myofascial treatment due to methodological limitations. Objective: To determine whether a multimodal myofascial intervention combined with therapeutic education is more effective in reducing pain during penetrative intercourse compared to therapeutic education alone. Methods: a randomized clinical trial will be conducted with 80 women. Participants will undergo an initial evaluation and two assessments will be conducted (one postintervention and one at 6 months). Participants will be randomly assigned to two groups: the intervention group (n=40) will receive a treatment program based on eight sessions divided every two weeks, in which they will receive myofascial therapy combined with therapeutic education; and the control group (n=40) will receive the same number of sessions of therapeutic education alone. Outcome variables will be measured: pain during sexual intercourse (using the VAS scale), overall sexual function, lubrication (both using the FSFI), and the presence of myofascial trigger points.Máster Universitario en Fisioterapia en salud de la mujer y salud pélvica (M211

Trade-offs among restored ecosystem functions are context-dependent in Mediterranean-type regions

    Get PDF
16 p.Global biodiversity hotspots, including Mediterranean-type ecosystems worldwide, are highly threatened by global change that alters biodiversity, ecosystem functions, and services. Some restoration activities enhance ecosystem functions by reintroducing plant species based on known relationships between plant traits and ecosystem processes. Achieving multiple functions across different site conditions, however, requires understanding how abiotic factors like climate and soil, along with plant assemblages, influence ecosystem functions, including their trade-offs and synergies. We used the ModEST ecosystem simulation model, which integrates carbon, water, and nutrient processes with plant traits, to assess the relationships between restored plant assemblages and ecosystem functions in Mediterranean-type climates and soils. We investigated whether maximised carbon increment, water use efficiency, and nitrogen use efficiency, along with their trade-offs and synergies, varied across different abiotic contexts. Further, we asked whether assemblages that maximised functions varied across environments and among these functions. We found that maximised ecosystem carbon increment and nitrogen use efficiency occurred under moist, warm conditions, while water use efficiency peaked under drier conditions. Generally, the assemblage that maximised one function differed from those for other maximised functions. Synergies were rare, except between water and nitrogen use efficiencies in loam soils across most climates. Trade-offs among maximised functions were common, varying in strength with abiotic context and plant assemblages, and were more pronounced in sandy loam soils compared to clay-rich soils. Our findings suggest that due to variation in abiotic conditions within and across Mediterranean-type regions at the global scale, site-specific plant assemblages are required to maximise ecosystem functions. Thus, lessons from a single site cannot be transferred to another site, even where the same plant functional types are available for restoration. Our simulation results offer valuable insights into potential ecosystem performance under specific abiotic conditions following restoration with particular plant functional types, thereby informing local restoration efforts.German Research Foundation (DFG)Comunidad de MadridUniversidad de AlcaláMinisterio de Ciencia e Innovació

    Get PDF
Today we live in an increasingly diverse society in which inclusive education and the positive valuation of diversity are the order of the day. However, the issue of families with children with diversity, the consequences that having a child with special educational needs implies in the family context, and the emotional and social needs that may arise in them, is less addressed. That is why in this work, a proposal is elaborated that offers tools, action guidelines and support activities for professionals who work with families of students with special educational needs, and for the families themselves, to ensure their true inclusion and to work on the emotional aspect.Máster Universitario en Atención a la Diversidad y Apoyos Educativos (M121
